2 weeks have passed since Tomoe had promised to teach them about magic. And 1 week since they had learned about him being part-cat. They were wondering about when they were gonna learn about it so of course they asked him,but them knowing their teacher would already know the answer. "Oh,I was too lazy. Let's do it now then."
"Magic is basically just controlling atoms."
"Atoms?" Shuichiro asked.
"Quantum manipulation. Electrons,neutrons,protons..."
"We know what atoms are!" the class replied all at once. Shuichiro then said, "I meant what do you mean by controlling atoms? It would be impossible and even if it was what good does it do?"
"Well for one,you should stop talking so formally, just talk normally. And second, the good it does is simple. Everything is made of atoms. So for example, what if I were to clump a bunch of water vapor together...Oto?"
"You'd just get water?" replied Hani Oto. Even though he is one of the shortest in class everyone acts as Hani is their parent.
"Correct. And if I were to do that..." Tomoe then put his hands together in a ball like shape and started blowing on it. The Mamoru trio were about to start laughing at him immediately but in the next second they saw Tomoe drinking water coming out of his hand.
"Are you drinking you're own sweat?! That's disgusting!"
"Nope, this is water. I don't sweat that much. Want a taste?"
"No!" said Mamoru.
Feta asked almost instantly. "So,can we make it into any liquid if we learn how to do that?"
"If you know the exact chemical makeup, yes. Otherwise, you have to bring the materials with you."
The class fell silent. They were thinking whether they should just leave so then they have a mostly normal school life or follow their teacher but possibly put themselves in danger. The silence was stabbing Tomoe since he hates awkward moments more than anything. It was deafening. There wasn't a single sound. It was lifeless. If a deaf person walked in the room,he'd even say it was too quiet. There was no sounds anywhere.
It was killing Tomoe so he broke the silence by saying, "You may not be able to use this though."
"WHAT?!!!?" the class went from 1 to 10,000 very quick.
"Well,there is something called 'affinity'."
"Affinity?" Otome asked. He's okay now if you were wondering.
"Basically, your abilities. There are 7 affinities any one person can have." Tomoe turned around and started writing on the board.
'Earth. Water. Wind,Electricity,Fire Light,Dark.'
Kurogame asked, "Why are some of them close to each other but others are far?"
"That's how likely you are to get another affinity. You can always have more than one. Most have 2 or 3. So for example,if your first affinity is Earth. You're more likely to get Water than Electricity or Fire. But you'll almost never get Light or Dark."
"Almost?"
"There is a chance but no one has ever gotten it."
Nagisa interrupted their conversation by asking, "If there's 7 in total, then shouldn't it be 3 or 4 affinities per person? 2 seems a bit small."
"Well,each affinity carries some weight..."
"Weight?"
"Yeah, for example,if you have just 1 affinity, 100% of any training would go to that, right?"
"Well, yeah? So wha-" Nagisa interrupted herself mid-sentence which made Soma and Yuuki worry.
"You realized." Everyone else was confused by Tomoe's words. "If it stops at 100% for 1 of them, when you have 2 it will be?"
"50%..."
"Correct!" everyone except those 2 seemed confused so Tomoe said, "It takes a lot of willpower and life energy to control atoms or use magic. As Shuichiro said,it should be impossible. Not even the scientists who use know how it works. It's one of the biggest mysteries about magic. We know everything except how we are able to use it."
"And?" asked Monzu.
"It will keep dividing your power the more affinities you have. So 1 will be fine since you could put 100% of your power into it. But when you have 2 it will take 50%. 3? 25%. 4? 12.5%. 5? 6.25%. 6? 3.125%. All 7? 1.5625%."
"Th-that's practically 1%! You'd have no...control..." said Shuichiro
"Exactly. There was a case of someone getting a 4th affinity and they lost all power of their legs. They had to stay in a wheelchair for the rest of their life."
"W-W-With just one extra?!!" The class was scared.
"Oh,don't worry. After the 3rd one you'll have to force yourself to get another one. It won't just happen on accident."
The class let out a huge sigh of relief.
Tomoe asked, "So...still wanna learn? If you do,you'll have to follow me on my crazy plan to kill The Seven Deadly Sins. This is your final chance to escape fate."
The entire class stood up and Shuichiro then said, "As the Class Rep,and on everyone's behalf, for the last time..."
"We're not leaving our class!"
"Heh,just what I'd like to hear."
"Oh,also wear your school uniform tomorrow but bring your usual outfit too."
