He honestly hated the essays that were required for basically half his classes, Andrew had spent most of his afternoon in the library trying to find as many sources for his topic. He was so focused on getting his work done he hadn’t even napped today, and the exhaustion was catching up to him. So coffee time it was.
Did he expect Tobi to be working the night shift, no he didn’t. But what he really didn’t expect was the fact that he was teasing him back, which for him was terribly out of character. He must be really tired because he would never have the confidence to say such things during the day.
He took a sip of his coffee enjoying its subtle sweetness, Alex always overdid it with the caramel, but the way Tobi made it was nice. Speaking of which the boy then came by and roughly sat himself next to him. He looked annoyed or maybe bored, he really couldn’t tell but it looks like he won’t be getting as much work done tonight as he had hoped.
“Can I help you” Andrew looked at the boy who then sighed dramatically
“This shift fucking sucks, no one has come in and I've been cleaning the same tables over and over again” Tobi slumped back into the couch and put his feet up on one of said tables.
“Well if it helps I've never seen a cleaner table before” he smiled at him as Tobi glared unamused by his joke
“Anyway...” he dragged “Whatcha typing there princess”
“Oh nothing important” sarcasm added to his tone “Just a ten page essay on why rapist you know, rape people” Tobi snickers at him.
“Sounds fun how far along are you”
“Oh I’m technically done with it, I'm just proofreading and fixing all my mistakes” God there were always so many.
“Yeah, here let me see, I’ll proofread it for ya” Tobi scooted closer and snatched the laptop out of his lap before he could protest.
The rest of the night consisted of Tobi sitting surprisingly close to him as he read through his essay. At first Tobi would tell him the mistakes he made and pass the laptop back for him to fix, but as he went further along he started just correcting the things himself.
He had gotten so relaxed to a point where he was leaned back into the couch and nearly against Tobis shoulder, definitely couldn't just do that.
Tobi was surprisingly good at english, well the writing aspect of it. He kept telling him he needed commas here, or to start a new paragraph to keep it from seeming boring. He wondered what he majored in, they had never talked about it, the only thing he knew about the guy was that he was on the swim team thanks to Nicole.
“I’m a creative writing major,” Tobi said, shocking him out of his thoughts, was he thinking out loud.
“Ha, yeah you are” Tobi looked at him with concern “When's the last time you slept princess” finishing the statement by rubbing his shoulder.
He couldn’t remember and just hummed something along the lines of I don’t know. He didn't have time for sleep he had an essay due, this was his career he was working towards. Tobi kept rubbing his arm and it felt so comforting, he honestly might fall asleep, stupid comfort.
“Well I still have about two hours left of my shift, I don’t know when this is due but I’ve got my laptop in the back” Tobi started to get up making him whine at the lack of warmth from his side. “Why don't you share this with me and I can finish proof reading it”
“Yeah ok” he yawned back in response.
“Then you should go home and sleep, you look like your about to pass out on the couch” Tobi laughed ruffling his hair
He was about too, sadly Tobi was right and he needed to get up and get some sleep, he had class in the morning. As he was about to ask Tobi for his email someone walked into the shop, leaving him by himself.
He got all his stuff together and was about to just head out when Tobi called out to him.
“Here you are princess, my email and my phone number so you can text me if you need more help” Tobi handed him a piece of paper.
“Thanks i'll share the essay with you before I go to bed, Thanks so much for your help”
He then left the shop way happier than he had been when he went in, hopefully Tobi would continue to have the night shift. Everything just felt so much better working with him instead of alone or with Alex, who honestly just bothered him the whole night. He even had his number now maybe they could talk about other things apart from school, he still barely knew anything about him.
Once he gets to his apartment he shares his essay and even sends Tobi a goodnight text. The text he gets back is as expected, ‘Night Princess’ with a lot of orange heart emojis after it. It made him feel some type of way, he wasn’t bothered by it, he just felt nice and relaxed. This guy was starting to grow on him.
