I waited there for what seemed like 5 minutes until they looked like they recognized my voice. They looked in my direction and nodded no in response. It was unfortunate, but at least I knew Machiavelli had a deadline and planned to bring me to them. I headed to the park's entrance only to find Machiavelli waiting there for me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked Machiavelli.
"Oh nothing, just watching as you trusted the ones you were with for the past 3-4 weeks to the point that you believed we didn't want you to head there, but I'm afraid your case is direr than most," he replied.
"Direr, how exactly?" I asked him.
He began to look sad as he said: "We had an accident with her during transport."
"Well, no one's perfect," I replied.
"Ain't that obvious Sherlock," he said in a harsh voice. He then calmed down and said: "When the transport ship was going through the atmosphere, we hit some turbulence, and all 3 of those that lived with you ended up with brain trauma. They all ended up with amnesia."
"What's their condition now?" I asked him.
"I hadn't bothered to contact them yet, but Nathan, one of them, remembers you. He told me if they didn't make it, take care of you as my own. They trusted me," he replied. I began to shed a tear as I hugged him. "I would have had your family with me when you came out of the Infested, really I would," He told me.
"I know she wouldn't want me to worry, and now I know she's in good hands. Why don't we have some fun?" I replied.
"Well, I just wanted to tell you this. Why don't you retake control of the snake; I bet Daniel is wondering why it's acting differently," He replied.
At this point, I figured the two people I had noticed now and before were lookalikes of my family and not actually them. I headed back to the same snake and then soon woke up in the same body as I did the first time.
"Nathan, where have you been? We've been calling Machiavelli to no avail," my metal trainer told me.
"Machiavelli needed to talk to me, and I know what happened," I replied.
"Good, maybe knowing that you won't be as worried," she replied.
It wasn't long before Daniel decided to hit the hay, and surprisingly he had laid me on his bed. "How do you like the feel of my bed? I wasn't one for it at first, but it just feels so natural for me," Danial said to me before dozing off. I soon fell asleep with him under the heat lamp.
"Nathan, wake up," I heard Machiavelli say. I opened my eyes to find Machiavelli carrying me home. "I figured you'd want to be sleeping in your dragon's mouth instead of in that snake," he told me.
"Did you have to wake me, though? I'm still tired," I told him.
"I just wanted to make sure you knew, my scaled child," he replied.
I was soon home with my dragon holding me close. "I'm home, dear," I told my dragon.
"I missed you," she said as she began to lick me, "Now then let's get some rest." She then stuck me under her tongue with me covered entirely in her saliva.
The next day it was finally time, my first time playing their holographic games. "Nathan, you awake?" Machiavelli asked me.
"Yeah, but I'm probably going to need to wash off the saliva and get into some casual clothes," I replied. I mostly wore swim trunks when sleeping in my dragon's mouth, and then I'd let some of it soak in if I had time before showering, but in this case, I was pressed for time.
"Nice look Nathan, professional yet breathable. Where'd you get the fedora?" Machiavelli asked me.
"I've had it for years. It's hard to believe this still fits even with my new body," I replied.
We headed to where the games were, and I saw a few others waiting for me. Some in fur, some covered in scales like me, but 2, in particular, stood out as they were deck out in clothing was covered in plastic scales and a mask to look somewhat similar to me.
"Here, Nathan put this on," he told me. He then put on a gauntlet looking thing on my right arm then had me head-on in.
"Well, well, well, first-time kid, don't worry if you've played the Garry's mod variant, you'll get this," one of them covered in fur told me. The map then changed right in front of me and became physical.
"Ok, that's creepy," I told them.
"You'll get used to it, just make sure you grab a gun real quick before it starts," he told me.
"Then my gauntlet turned on and told me it was preparing time. I grabbed a Mac 10 off of the ground and then a Desert Eagle. Once the round started, it told me something somewhat surprising. " Ok then, first game, and I grab this stuff only to get this role," I thought to myself. It said I was a jester meaning to win. I needed an innocent role to kill me and then win as that role, and my best bet was the detective, sniffer, or sheriff.
"Nathan, you're doing ok?" I heard one of them say. I checked the guy's role, and he was a sniffer.
"Yeah, where are you?" I asked him.
"Above you," he replied. I look up to find him with a rifle in his hand. Suddenly he lost grip of his gun and pulled the trigger, hitting me and killing him.
"Ok, then that I didn't expect," I said out loud. I checked his heart, and it was still beating.
"Nathan, he's just unconscious if you're wondering," I heard someone say into their mic.
"Well, I was a jester, and he shot me," I replied. I grabbed his trash can lid and then looked through the buy menu. "Where's the defib?" I thought to myself. I then heard footsteps behind me. "Who's there?" I said as I turned around and pulled out my Desert Eagle.
"Nathan, I'm the survivalist. Don't worry," he told me as he slowly grabbed something from behind his back.
I look behind him to see someone with a knife sneaking up behind him as I say:" Then what are you pull..." I stopped there as he threw a boomerang at me. I blocked it with the trash can lid and then kind two bodies in front of me. I checked them to find a traitor and a shinigami.
"Ok, one T's down," I said into my mic.
"Nathan, there might be another heading your way," one of them replied.
I revived the dead detective before hiding to ambush the traitor. "Go, now," I whispered to the one I restored. He left, and I waited there, Mac 10 in hand, for the traitor.
I waited there for a minute to see a necromancer's zombie coming down my direction. I fired at it and killed it, confirming that there were three other zombies. "Just great, I'm the only one left with 2 minutes on the clock," I thought to myself.
I decided to find a spot to hide with a rifle ready. I found a tower a bunkered down at the top of it, weighing down the trash can lid over the ladder with whatever was up there.
"I know you're up there, kid," I heard the necro say. I peeked over and got my rifle ready. "You think you can..." I stopped him short as I shot him down.
I checked the clock. "1 minute, ok They'll likely get themselves killed," I thought to myself. I then heard the three zombies. They were slow, so I tossed a grenade over and got all 3 of them.
"Wow, Nathan, you're a crafty individual, let's do some more rounds," one of them told me.
We played five more rounds before it was time to eat, and as we were, I got a look at the 2 in the suit's faces.
"I never met someone who could best me as a necro," he told me.
"What's with the suits, anyhow?" I asked them.
"Our caretakers had us wear these when we're out and about because we both couldn't decide if we would both do scales or fur,"
"So you're boyfriend and girlfriend then?" I asked them.
They looked at each other before the girl said: "yeah, we are, I preferred the comfort and warmth or fur, but he wanted to look tough in scales. I'm just not sure what reptile he'd go for."
"I thought my caretaker told you I'd go for a cobra, hood and all. I'd even take the tail replacing my legs," he told me.
"You used your legs a lot when playing, and you'd give that up just to look tough. Wouldn't you rather take on fur just to please the one you love?" I asked him.
He looked at his girlfriend and told her: "I've loved you since I was little and now that he mentions it. There's not much I wouldn't do for you."
"You mean, you're giving in finally?" She asked him.
"For you, my love, what you chose for me, I'll take on as my fur," he told her as he hugged her.
"Nathan, I'm impressed, you helped them to agree. Maybe I should have you help others," Machiavelli told me.
"I don't know why, but it just comes to me. The knowledge, me trying to please you, It comes to me when I need it. You know when I first came out covered in scales, I wasn't too happy, but when I realized I could turn into a dragon and seeing the joy I brought to you, I became content with my new body," I replied.
"Nathan, my child, you don't know how much joy you bring me, you've helped me heal. I can only wonder if you miss your human form," he asked me.
"Machiavelli, while you can't take away who I once was, this new body is something I'm willing to accept as my new life," I replied.
