'It's okay that life doesn't go as you plan sometimes. Fighting through those moments can help you, make you smarter, or wiser for later.'
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHUT IT DOWN!"
Ok, small recap. I got called to the principal's office. It was going pretty okay. He was asking about class and stuff then he told me he that if my band, Broken, can't start giving back the money that was used to start the 'club' (he calls it a club when it's a band) he would be forced to shut it down.
"Aiden, I know how much you enjoy being in Broken but, it's currently an extra fund that the school can't afford." Principal Wigfield explained very calmly. He was a good principal but this was unfair.
"But sir, we can't do any shows until we find someone who can control the electronics." I try to explain.
"You have been turning down everyone that comes." Principle Wigfield pointed out. He was telling the truth.
"Yes, but everyone who keeps coming just wants to do instruments or do vocals and we are full in that area. What we need is a techie and no one wants to do it." I was struggling to keep my cool. I don't want anything bad to happen to my band.
"Ok, all I can do is give you two weeks to find someone and teach them the tech. If you don't start making some money then I'm truly sorry, but I will have to shut down Broken." After he finishes his speech, I sigh deeply.
"Yes, sir."
"You are dismissed."
With that, I take my bag and leave. I know where he's coming from but it still ticks me off. Plus he made me miss most of my first block.
I walk into class. Just to my luck, the first block is just chorus so I didn't miss much.
It wasn't long before the bell rang. Despite my best efforts, getting from the art hall to the language hall is much harder than it may seem sometimes. I heard the one minute bell and freaked out a little on the inside. Luckily my class is insight.
I quickly slid into my French class. Now I need to start on my work.
I get out my notebook but realize that there's someone to my right. There hasn't been anyone showing up for class in that seat. We make eye contact. I was getting a little awkward, so I decided to say something. "You must be the no show kid." Shoot, that sounded mean.
"I guess you could say that. Do you mind if I borrow some of your notes later?"
"Not at all... Wait, your the kid I bumped into in the parking lot. Sorry about that."
Just then the bell rang. We both turned forward and put our attention on Mr. Vincent.
"Class, let's welcome Nathaniel Evergreen to class." A few kids said welcome then went silent again.
"Alright, class today we will be doing conversations. Only in French though. So, turn to someone close to you and begin."
Nathaniel turned to me very quickly. "Do you mind?"
I shook my head no.
We turned our desks together and had our books open just in case we needed to find a word or check our grammar. I told Nathaniel to start.
(Note, you can skip the French and just read what Aiden's thoughts are then the translation)
"Bonjour!" He spoke happily and brought his voice up a little to reinforce that.
"Bonjour." Hopefully, my pronunciation are getting better.
"Comment vous appelez-vous?" Formal? Well, we don't know each other that well so it makes sense.
"Je m'appelle Aiden. Et vous?" I feel as if I sound dead compared to him. He's quite peppy.
"Je m'appelle Nate! Enchanté!" He sounded so happy to say that.
"Moi aussi." I can't believe I said that so flawlessly.
"ça va?" Informal now? Ok then.
"comme ci, comme ça. Et toi?"
"Trés bien, marci!"
"á bientôt."
"á bientôt!"
(Translation:
Nate: Good morning!
Aiden: Good morning.
Nate: What's your name?
Aiden: My name is Aiden. What about you?
Nate: my name is Nate! It's nice to meet you!
Aiden: Same to you.
Nate: How are you?
Aiden: So-so. And you?
Nate: I'm doing well, thank you!
Aiden: See you later.
Nate: See you later!)
When we said our goodbyes, we began to give comments on each other. Then for the rest of the class, Mr. Vincent went over some more vocabulary and grammar.
When the bell rang, I turned to Nate. "What's your next class and do you know your lunch wave?"
"I-its gym and I don't know my lunch wave."
"Oh, it doesn't really matter if you're in gym, I'll be in there with you. Want me to lead the way?"
Nate shakes his head quickly. "Y-yes please!"
The entire walk to the locker room, he would say and do cute little things..... Wait cute? Never mind that. I mean, yeah, he does have a feminine build, freckles, and beautiful eyes and... Oh my God! What is wrong with me! I can't think about another guy like this. I-It's wrong!
I quickly bring him to Coach O'Quinn. As soon as he with Coach, I left and quickly changed into my gym uniform.
Why was I thinking like that? Hell, why was I thinking like that about anyone at this time? But God damn it, If I don't stop, this could be bad. Just bottle up those ideas and throw them in the back. You have to focus right now Aiden! No distractions. Not right now!
This is going to be harder then I thought.
I sighed as I left the locker room to the gym. I did the required exercises then got with my group to begin volleyball. Yeah! Volleyball will help me clear my head. Keep your mind on the ball and your movements. From a bump to a save, to a spike. How to hit the ball and how to score. No more thoughts of him. No distractions.
I see Nate running the trace for Coaches assessment. Why did he catch my eye! I said no distractions! Head back in the game!
This can't be good for me.
