After weeks of grueling training I finally softened the glare of Duchess Burtwell into a little bit more of just a stare. Having learned etiquette, and actually listened, I now felt truly ready to conquer the trials of high society, find a beard for the prince, and just party hard…. Or more like, stand in a corner eating good food while doing some people-watching.
The most important thing was to wear my necklace, Plotdevice, and lose it at the right place. I have watched enough movies to know that just a tiny bit of a difference will change everything, and the more changes there are, the less I know. And I already don’t know a lot…
So. Here. We. Go!
The maids did a good job at dolling me up. Fancy hair. Fancy dress. Heavy dress. I really miss just being able to laze around in an oversized t-shirt and eat chips… Sigh, the good old pre-dying times that was.
Arriving at the palace everything stands out so much that I’m so completely overwhelmed that I can’t really see anything. It’s big and shiny. Very big and shiny indeed. Following the other people I notice how most are coming in pairs. Right… It’s considered bad not having a date here. I just didn’t even think about it since I was so busy making Duchess Burtwell my target of affection so she wouldn’t leave me and bring dishonor to my house.
Noble society sucks hard. It works out for the best anyway since I wasn’t planning on dancing around, and since I have a job to do, but I can’t help but feel a bit like the odd one out. This reminds me of school.
Now, where was ‘I’ or rather, ‘Amy’ supposed to meet with the head of the royal guard in the novel? Since that would probably be where I should drop it this time around. If I remember correctly it was somewhere around the royal garden. ‘Amy’ felt out of place and decided to take a breather, but somehow ended in the royal garden. She knew she wasn’t supposed to be there, but it was so beautiful she couldn’t help it, and thus she bowed down to smell the flowers. This was probably where she lost the necklace. Then she ran away when hearing a sound since she would be in big trouble if she was found.
So I have to find the garden.
The royal garden that no one is supposed to visit other than the royal family and guests who have been given explicit permission. With death penalty in this place it doesn’t sound very good…
But the character Amy went there again when looking for her necklace, and ran into the head of the royal guard, and still lived to tell the tale. So I guess I just have to trust this world.
AS IF. This world has already betrayed me when killing my BL side story, so in other words, it’s time to become a super stealth ninjaaaaaaa.
Sneaking around at the party, I find the places filled with shadows and use them as cover in best thief style. Even if people noticed me, they would probably not know who I was, and since I look like I belong otherwise, they wouldn’t give it a second thought. Actually, this is nobility and filled with snobs, so they wouldn’t even give me a first thought.
Succeeding out into the garden I find a place that kind of reminds me of the place described in the novel, to be as precise as possible. Except, there are flowers everywhere, and everything looks the same.
I take off Plotdevice and drop it from my neck height to make it more authentic.
“You there, what are you doing here?”
A voice from behind me sends a shiver through my body. I was discovered! There goes my future ninja career. And probably also my head.
Slowly turning around I notice very purple clothes. Royalty. Fuck.
The prince?
But which one is it?
As I remember it, there are two princes, the oldest, most capable, and my gay baby.
And his younger brother, mostly just powerhungry, not a good leader, and straight as an arrow.
The novel described them as looking similar, being brothers and all, but in any case, does that even matter now??
No matter which one of them it is, I’m screwed.
Clearing my throat, putting on my most dignified and proper stand, imagining all of the horrible sessions I have been through in proper stance and speech, I slowly rise up and stand.
“Oh, I most sincerely apologize my Prince, Sunshine of the empire. I was trying to find my way out, but then came by this most amazing garden and couldn’t help but admire its beauty. I will take my leave at once”
I curtsy, and start to leave, but just when I walk by him he takes me by the arm.
“I didn’t say you could leave, Lady Wells, daughter of Duke Wells. Have your household not taught you proper manners?”
Urgh. Huh? Wait? MY FATHER IS A DUKE? We were this high up? No wonder everyone is mad at me for sucking.
Huh? Even more importantly, how did he know who I was?
“Lady Wells, your prince is speaking to you. How dare you stand and daydream after having been impudent and stepped foot in the royal garden. Does your rudeness have no end?”
I just stare at him while he keeps speaking. I really hope this is the younger prince and not my gay baby… He is so rude.
Besides, I haven’t been taught how to talk with the prince. Duchess Burtwell told me I would probably not even meet him, so we should focus on the basics since I sucked and we had limited time. Not in those words, of course. She made it sound much more polite. I only learned greetings, and that was that.
And here I am in my own world again while in front of the prince. What to do what to do.
I’m basically screwed…
