Walking A Tightrope

The Meeting

The Meeting

Apr 26, 2020

"I hate this I hate this" Jay whimpered, fiddling through his keys as rain poured down, flooding his vision. "Seriously, why do I have so many keys???" He tried and failed to wipe the water out of his eyes. Soon, his fingers brushed against the rough exterior of his home key, and he sighed happily before pulling it out and sliding it into the lock and opening the door. He stepped inside, relishing the warmth. “Mum! Dad!” He called. “I'm hoooome!”

Jay’s mum, a plump short woman with short blond hair and blue eyes rushed into the hallway, eyes lighting up when she saw her son. “Jay!” She enfolded him into a hug. “You’re back! Oh, I missed you! How was work?”

Jay gave her back a few pats before answering. “I was relieved of my duties.” He answered cheerfully.

“... So you got fired?” His father, a taller man with black hair and green eyes walked into the hallway, an eyebrow raised.

“I wouldn't say that.” Jay tipped his head. “It's just... the person I was working for could do his own work. And besides…” Jay giggled. “I think he was getting sick of my crap!”

Before his dad could say anything else, Jay shoved a 500 dollar check in his mothers’ hands. “Here,” he smiled. “So you can pay off this week’s rent.”

His mother gasped. “Jaylin! You didn't have to do that! Use this money for something you want!”

Jay rubbed the back of his head, “That's what I want, for you to be happy.” He and his parents weren’t poor, exactly, but they weren’t wealthy either. He yawned and stretched. “My manager is looking for another job as we speak, I’m gonna get some rest, I'm exhausted.” He waved to his parents and went into his room. It was a small room, with a queen-sized bed and two dressers. There was one window above his smallest dresser, which the moonlight shone in and lit his room in a dim silvery glow. The rain pattered against the window, both calming and unnerving. Jay plopped on his bed and looked at his mirror that leaned against his closet door. He had blond fluffy hair and green eyes. With freckles on his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. He groaned and tried to rub the freckles off, but, as usual, failed. Tomorrow might be better. He yawned, starting to close his eyes. I wonder who my new master will be…

I hope he’s not a perv.
