Jeremy rubs his forehead letting out a grown. If only he knew that Zoe was
already very far. Leaning back in his chair he smiles to himself.
“I don’t really get it man. You barely know this chick. Yet you are going bat
shit crazy trying to find her.”
Noah ignored his comment about being crazy. He focused on the road trying
to map out a route.
“Yeah I know that already. The time I spent with her was mostly forced.
But when I saw the deep fear in her eyes at that party...something just
changed in me. Don’t ask me to explain it.”
Jeremy laughs some while searching through his open screens. He watched
Zoe through satellite feeds. Noah hangs up the phone thinking about the
party. The man John Herman had scared Zoe so much. Just the thought had
him wondering if there was still something he missed.
On the other side of the world up in the mountains was Devon. He walked
into a cave going deep through it. The other side was covered with thick
vines and moss that was a strange color. Devon looked to the vines then
slashed them away. Blue moss almost fell onto his head as he stepped back
slightly. Walking through the opening he lets a small smile pass his lips.
“I’m home...”
The place looked like ruins. He walks over to a small stone placing a hand on
it.
“Mother...you would hate who I’ve become. It is too late to change myself
now. If Zoe gets strong enough maybe she can change the curse. Is it wrong
of me to deceive a child for this purpose?”
Letting out a sigh he sits down looking around at all the rubble. Devon leans
his head back laughing some out loud. He felt his face to see that tears were
falling down.
It had been so long since there was any kind of hope for him. Devon knew he
was a monster but wanted the curse broken. Leaning his head down he
laughs harder to himself.
“I’ll continue to be the worst monster. When this curse is broken then my
time will finally come to an end.”
He looks up to the sky thinking of Zoe. When she was with the police officer
it was amusing since he recognized him. To think that Zoe would get missed
up with the hunters was truly amusing. He stands up dusting some dirt from
his pants.
“I guess this is a good bye mother.”
Devon leans over touching the stone once more then heads to the exit.
A week turned into two followed by three then four. Noah had no luck
catching up to Zoe. All the time Jeremy was keeping her updated on Noah’s
progress. It was too late for Jeremy to stop helping her. If he was found out
his life might be in danger. Zoe promised to keep it secret even if found out.
Zoe was resting in a rural town by their lake. The woods made her feel at
peace, The wind blew off the lake making the fresh scent of the woods fill my
nose. How long would Noah follow me before he actually gave up.
“I swear that man is more fucked up then I am!”
I ran my fingers through my hair getting some knots out. Just sitting here
was nice but I needed to keep moving at least for now. There had to be some
place that even the great Mister Black wouldn’t bother me. Standing up I
stretch looking to the lake once more smiling. It had been nice to relax for a
few minutes.
When I got back to the bike there was a text from Jeremy. He told me to head
west from here. Okay the almighty spy must know what he speaks about
hopefully. Laughing to myself I put the cell back into the bag. The ride was
pleasant today as the sun was shining brightly. It was a couple of hours when
my phone started to ring. Answering it I almost dropped the phone.
“Miss Zoe, where do you think you are running off too? You do know it isn’t
nice to leave without so much as a word?”
Holy shit! It was Noah on the other end. Mentally I was too shocked to even
speak at the moment. How the hell did he manage to get this cell number.
The only person who had it was Jeremy and he wasn’t going to tell. I take a
deep breathe in then let it out to calm down.
“Hello, Mister Black. Is it really any of your concern where I go?”
I wanted to say more but thought to keep it short. I could hear some
laughter from his end of the phone. Shit this wasn’t going to be good for me.
Noah had pulled to the side of the road. He got out just leaning against the
front of his car laughing.
“Yeah you got a point there Miss Zoe. But seeing as you and I are
intertwined by fate...I see it very hard to let you go. You know more than
you told me about John Herman for starters. You think you can just run
away from your problems. I am not going to let you keep running away. If
you don’t want me to tie you up; you better stay put.”
If he thought his threat would work with distance, he was dead wrong. No
way in hell was I going to let him catch up to me. I might not be the smartest
person but staying would be plain stupid.
“Noah let me tell you something here and now. I will not let you do
whatever the hell you want. Nor will I get mixed up with you anymore. If it
wasn’t for you then that monster and I wouldn’t have met face to face. You
think I am running but what about you? Your more fucked up then I am.”
I held onto the phone waiting for him to threaten me or something. It
remained silent for a while.
Noah takes out a cigarette lighting it. As taking a deep inhale he looks to the
cars passing by on the road.
“Yeah I am fucked up. You might be correct in saying that I’m also running
away. One thing for sure is that for some reason...I don’t want to let you
run. So if I have to be a cruel bastard to keep you I will.”
Holy shit was this man being for real. There had to be so many screws loose
in his head. Looking to the cell I hang up on Noah calling Jeremy. When I tell
him what happened he freaks out. Jeremy tells me to ditch that phone and
get a new one. Great so now I knew how relentless Noah could possibly be.
