The NCGS walked along the path to Beach City, all of them silent, the 4 who had been to HomeWorld reliving their friend's shattering, and Greg digesting his son's fate. Connie broke the silence. 'So who do we talk to first? Sadie? Lars? And what would we do with Steven's body?' The group's thoughts darted back to Steven's body, laying on the couch in the half-destroyed temple. Greg sniffed, tears still pouring out of his eyes, 'We should give him a proper send-off, a funeral maybe? Lapis, Peri, and Bismuth nodded, knowing what's a funeral due to Rose and Steven telling them all about it in the past. Connie gulped. 'We're here. Let's go.' She picked up her pace, and walked towards the Big Donut, the others following in her wake. She pushed open the door, and Sadie, on her evening shift, said cheerfully, 'Welcome to the Big Donut! What can I do fo-' When she saw Connie and the others, eyes welling with tears, she was bewildered at why. After a few moments of silence, she asked, 'Why the long faces? Did you guys have a bad day or something? Here, take a few donuts to help cheer up! It's on the house, so don't worry about the money!' She turned around, took a few donuts from the cabinet, and handed them to Connie. Connie took them, and taking a bite, sniffled, 'Sadie, I know you were close to Steven, but-' Before she could finish her sentence, she broke out into tears. Sadie was a bit unsettled. 'But what? Has something happened to Steven? Why isn't he with you? Where is he?' Bismuth answered her questions, tears running down her cheeks at the same time, 'He's...He's dead. Killed by the Diamonds. The giant ladies who sent Topaz and Auqamarine to kidnap you guys before.' Sadie was in shock. 'He's dead? You're joking. He's dead? HE'S DEAD?', she shouted. Peri squeaked from the other side of the shop, 'Y-yes...He's dead. We were devastated when we found out from Connie. Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst were shattered-I mean killed too.' Sadie had a breakdown on the spot, sobbing uncontrollably. 'He's-He's dead? Steven...oh Steven...why did this have to happen to you...you were such a nice boy...' All was silent. The only sound heard was the sound of the store bell clinging against the door, and the sound of sniffling and crying from the six below.
