A deafening silence is disturbed by Jessica's scream. A scream that tore through Spencer like a shard of glass, while he was lost thinking about his mom who passed away in The Big Blast when he was ten. Spencer lived next door to Jessica and Adwin. He stands up, eyes popped out, trying to process what is going on, and Jessica's voice was like a wave that contained all information he needed. She is dying and she is helpless. His heart beats out of control. The lub-dub sound of his heart crescendoed, even more, when he opened the door to Jessica and Adwin's room. Spencer is driven by love and he would do anything to keep everyone safe. He is a gift to all the bunker inhabitants. Spencer is overwhelmed by what was going on. Adwin laying on the ground as he devours and gobbles Jessica's arm in the most vicious way possible. She, on the other side of the room, armless, looks into Spencer, helpless, half unconscious, and quietly whispers before she collapses: "...Adwin…". Spencer heads to her and in the meantime, Adwin jumps on top of her as he looks to finish his meal. Without hesitation, Spencer wrenches his gun and pulls the trigger saving Jessica, but killing Adwin in the process. The sickening smell of Jessica's rotting flesh blanketing the air, blood covering the walls and the floor, the Silent Sound of what came before the event returns, only this time the dripping sound of Jessica's blood adds up to the rhythm. Spencer rushes to take her to the medical facility. She wasn't going to survive. She lost too much blood. Nevertheless, Spencer insists on helping her and Andrea Murel, the doctor, started the operation. Spencer is now forced to leave the intensive care unit.
The morning comes, Spencer has a mission. He will lead a small crew to reach a bunker a mile and a day away, where they would gather information on what is it like around the bunker. Spencer and the crew were trained for this moment their entire lives. At midday the mission begins, It's the first time, they'd see the sun, the deadly sun. In the middle of nowhere, the warm and golden sand is the first surface they had stepped on.
They needed to hurry to make it back in the daytime. Spencer never stopped thinking about Adwin. He's the second person to die in front of him, only this time Spencer was the one to kill. After walking a few miles they have reached a city that looked more like a city of ghosts. When they finally came closer to it, Spencer got on top of a hill and gets paralyzed as he stares at the jaw-dropping sea of humanity. He slightly and carefully hides and whispers to his crew with a trivial smile: " We gotta go! There are people, a lot of 'em on the site, we must inform our people."
Back in the bunker, miraculously, Jessica made it through the incident. On his arrival, Spencer informs Elton Felix about what he saw. And Felix was stunned by the news and thought it was impossible, he wouldn't believe until he sees them himself. Felix, on the other hand, rewarded Spencer with a piece of news that shaped a smile on his face. "Jessica is alive. " says Elton.
Spencer galloped to her bed in the emergency room, and she looks at him all appreciative and barely able to say: "thank you" She tells him to come near her and he does so. In a shocking twist of events, Jessica stabbed a knife into Spencer's chest and whispers to his ears: "you killed MY brother" and she keeps sinking it deeper and deeper. His coat was stained with blood as he loses consciousness and falls to the ground.
