Chapter 2: Quirk Placement
(Disclaimer! I own nothing of Sky High or My Hero Academia)
We were all in the gymnasium.
A comet came raining down and turned into a person.
“Good morning freshmen of Ultra Academy,” she said, “I am Principal Nezu, and on behalf of our school facualty and staff, welcome to Ultra Academy.”
“Whoa,” Deku said.
“In just a few minutes each of you will go through Quirk Presentation, and your journeys as heroes will soon begin…”
“Quirk presentation?” Deku asked.
“It sounds like a fascist statement,” I commented.
“Its how they decide what kind of hero you’ll be,” Mineta said.
“There’s more than one kind?” Jirou asked.
“…For now, good deeds and good luck, and let the adventure begin,” Principal Nezu finished.
He walked away and someone else arrived.
There was a strange looking guy with tape around his neck, and another man with a funny hat.
“Good morning students,” he said, “This is Eraserhead, and I am Coach Overdrive.”
Some of us seemed intimidated.
“This is how Quirk Presentation will work,” Eraserhead said, “Each of you will step forward and demonstrate a use of your quirks, and in front of the class.”
“Oh boy,” Deku said.
“And afterwards I will determine which hero courses each of you will take,” Eraserhead finished.
Coach Overdrive stepped up.
“So every year we have students, or as I put it…. Whiners, who complain about how I label each person’s quirk, as hero or sidekick,” he said, “Let’s get one thing straight; Even though you are assigned to a specific area, some things you do in the future just might change your ranking. Other than that, are we clear?”
We were mumbling.
“I said, Are. We. CLEEEEEEEAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR?”
“Yes Coach Overdrive,” We all said in Unison.
He looked at a kid with glasses.
“You’re up first.”
I was concerned.
“What’s humiliating people in front of the class gonna prove?” I asked, “This seems completely unfair.”
“If life were to start being fair, I doubt it would start in High School.”
The boy concentrated all his might and turned into a giant rock creature.
“Car,” Coach Overdrive said.
A car fell down and he caught it.
“Hero,” he said.
“Well, he’s good,” Denki said, “But I’m better.”
He stepped up.
“Stand back everyone,” he said.
He clapped his hands together expecting something to happen.
“……any day now,” Eraserhead said.
“Well, if you could just give me something electric then I….”
“Sidekick,” Coash Overdrive said.
“Are you sure cause…..”
“SIDEKICK!”
Denki fell off.
Coach Overdrive then looked at Mineta.
“You’re up kid.”
“Let me just say that it is quite the honor to…..”
“Is that your Quirk son?” Coach Overdrive said, “Ass-kissing?”
“Very funny sir…..”
“Power up Jr,” he said.
Mineta grabbed a piece of his hair off and threw it at a wall.
“Pretty interesting…… for a human tree,” Coach Overdrive said, “Sidekick.”
Each of us was going through each of our quirks.
Jiro had a special quirk of her own plugging into amps.
Unfortunately the coach wasn’t impressed.
He then looked at me.
“You’re up.”
“Um… I believe in only using my powers when the situation demands it.”
“Well you’re in luck, this is an emergency,” Coach Overdrive.
“Well with all due respect, I think the whole hero and sidekick thing is…..” I said.
“Basically you’re refusing to show me your Quirk,” he said.
“Not the case at all sir I just….”
“Sidekick.”
The bell rang.
“Alright we’ll pick it up after lunch, starting with you.”
He was pointing at Deku.
Later we were at lunch.
We were joined by fellow student Tenya Iida.
“Wow, this cafeteria is huge,” I said.
“Well, its important for a hero to have a balance of food when going out into the field of battle,” Iida said, “The world is your battlefield, and your quirk is your weapon. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.”
Denki was mad because he was made a sidekick.
“Coach Overdrive is gonna be sorry about this,” he said, “One day he’s gonna be stuck in a house with no power and ask for my help, and I just won’t help him.”
He bumped into the coach.
“You got a problem with me?” He asked.
“Um… .no,” he said.
“No what?”
“No sir… no problem at all.”
He shapeshifter into the guy with the shapeshifting powers.
“Just messing with you.”
We were all looking at a strange blonde haired boy with a weird haircut.
“Who’s that guy?” Deku asked.
“That would be Katsuki Bakugo,” Mineta said, “I heard rumors that his mother was a hero and yet his father was a villain.”
Bakugo shot us a glare.
“He seems intimidating,” Deku said getting behind me.
I saw Starla walking by and waving at us.
I could tell that Deku really liked her.
After lunch we went back to the gym and Deku was the last person to show off his quirk.
I was worried about him.
He whispered something to the coach.
“Wait… you don’t know what your quirk is?” Coach Overdrive asked, “Wait….. oh I gotcha, just like your dad. A joker.”
He called for a car and it fell down.
Deku jumped out of the way.
“Are you insane?!” Deku asked, “I don’t have super strength.”
For a split second I could’ve sworn I saw someone watching us.
Coach Overdrive tried every test possible, but Deku didn’t have the quirk for anything.
“It seems we have a quirkiness student,” Eraserhead said.
“Quirkless……” Coach Overdrive said.
“Coach I….”
“SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE KICK!!!!!!!!!!”
It was so loud that it could be heard throughout the entire school.
