(Told from Jenie’s view)
After I woke up from the nap Ava insisted I take I was ready for answers and I was going to get them. I slipped on some socks for my cold feet and made my way downstairs with what I hoped was a stern expression on my face. I found Ava watching a Disney movie on the couch with some popcorn. I didn't know she could use the microwave. I ignored the rush of pride for now grabbing the bowl of popcorn and tossing it onto the kitchen floor not caring where it landed. I would need to clean it up later but I'd deal with that after this was done. I switched the TV off ,much to Ava's dismay, and hopped onto her lap so she couldn't get up and leave.
I wiggled around until I was sitting on Ava's lap facing her. She tried to pretend I wasn't there by staring at random things in the room but she eventually broke down under my intense glare. I tilted her head so she had to look me in the eyes, "You finally ready to talk now?"
She pulled her face out of my grasp and looked away, "Not your problem. Me deal with it." I gave a frustrated huff, were in this together. I need her to realize that, "I took very sharp claws to the leg and I went to Disney World with you. It's my problem too now........ You are my problem now." Her eyes glazed over as she became lost in thought. I just let her stare at nothing and think for as long as she needed to.
After about twelve minutes of me absentmindedly stroking her hair while she worked through something her eyes suddenly snapped back into focus. She mumbled something unintelligible and wiggled around like she considered that good enough and was done. "You're not done. Say it again clearly this time." She hissed at me but I just sat there and waited until she opened her mouth reluctantly and said it again, "...... Sister....... She's twin sister.......Mika"
It took me a minute to process what she said but once it was pointed out they did look similar. I tried not to make a big deal of it, "Sister?..... Why am I only hearing about your twin now?"
She scowled at the thought of her sister, "Don't like her. Bitch." I frowned at Ava. She likes everyone once she gets to know them. She's like a happy little kitty with very sharp teeth and killer instincts. "Why don't you like her, Ava?" She pressed her lips into a sharp angry line, "Paranoid. Mika hates any human. She kills them on sight."
"Why is she so paranoid?" I understand the need to be careful. Avilies are considered extremely dangerous and a threat to public safety. One wrong person recognizes what they are and unexceptionable chaos will ensue.
She thought about my question for a minute, "Before dying Mother told us be wary of humans. Mika took it as all human bad. I took it as only trust the good ones." Now, I've taken a few psychology classes. I am in no way an expert but I've take enough classes to know that the death of a beloved parent mixed with a slightly threatening message can go very badly very easily. She's lucky both of her kids didn't interpret that as kill them all.
I sighed, trying to rub the forming headache into at least a dull throb, "So, your telling me we've got to teach you violent, traumatized, paranoid, killing machine of a sister that I'm a nice human?" Ava nodded, I could tell she wasn't happy with the idea of my interacting with her sister but we couldn't just leave her in that state.
