The food was really good, for a piece of burnt meat. Well at least it’s something. While I was eating the meat the people around me were happily chatting with each other, except for Raok who looked like he’d rather be at any other place as long as it’s not here.
I must have zoned out for a while because when I blinked everyone was looking at me again. They probably asked a question which I, of course, didn’t hear. I gave them a questioning gaze after which Ukia repeated her question.
“So why are you in this forest, because as far as I know only adventurers and high-ranking people are allowed to enter.” I looked at her for a while thinking about how to answer without giving them any real information. Just when I decided on what to say Dayxo spoke up. “Ukia it’s not nice to ask personal questions after you’ve just met someone.”
“Eh, but that question wasn’t personal at all!” Answered a pouting Ukia. “The question might not be, but the answer could be a very personal matter,” Dayxo told her. “Aawww but then what else am I supposed to talk about?” “Maybe something that’s not a question or just a simple one like do you like this or that.”
“Sooo…what’s your favourite colour?” she asked turning towards me again. I really don’t want to have a conversation with some child like girl, but they did save me, I mean I could at least answer that question. “Well it’s hard to say, sometimes I prefer blue and sometimes red.” “Oh I like red to which shade do you like the most, mine is like a rose pinkish colour.” “Blood.”
Shit I said that out loud. “I uh meant like a crimson shade a bit like blood you know what I mean?” Well this is a giant failure of a conversation, who would answer ‘what’s your favourite colour?’ with ‘blood’!? Me apparently.
I looked at my hands in my lap since I was too embarrassed to make eye contact with anyone. Here I was staring at my hands thinking about how I could’ve ruined a conversation, this bad when everyone suddenly burst out laughing. Why are they laughing!? Are they laughing at me, did I do something funny, I’m so confused.
Then Semion stood up walked over to me and smacked me on my back while laughing. And I mean smacked, like hard. Did he forget I was injured or did he just want to hurt me? I looked up at him wearily, but he was grinning like a little boy who’d just stolen candy and ate them all at once and noticed nobody suspected a thing.
“Semion the kids injured don’t hit him,” Katelyn said. “Ah oh sorry forgot,” he answered while sheepishly rubbing the back of his head. “You’re a really weird kid,” he laughed, ‘you’ll fit in perfectly.” Fit in huh, maybe I could…no. We continued to talk about other trivial things as it slowly got darker and darker. Ukia yawned and we all decided it was time to go to sleep. Dayxo and I decided to take the first watch, since I wasn’t tired yet.
I stared up at the night sky, which was full of stars. How I wish I could just be up there with the rest of them. I know I can’t because I still have many things to do, but it seems so peaceful compared to down here. I wonder why I’m the only one left. How is Fenir doing right now? Maybe he’s also alone and lost. I’ll have to leave this group soon to find him. But why am I kind of reluctant to leave? I shook my head. I’ll think about all of this tomorrow, for now I’ll just enjoy the peace and quiet…for as long as it lasts.
“So, are you really feeling better?” Dayxo asked. I looked at him for a bit before shrugging. “Physically yes I guess.” “And mentally?” We stared at each other for a while, until I turned my head back up to the stars. “Who knows.” “…You’re leaving soon right,” he said. My head snapped back, only to see him looking at me with a knowing smile. “…If I stay you’ll all be in danger. Besides I have way to many secrets.” “We’ll be in danger anyways; we are a demon hunting group after all.” “Hmm, I’ll think about it.” I gave him a tiny smile and he smiled back. Yea…I’ll think about it…
