"This has GOT to stop!"
Seline threw herself at the ground and pouted. She didn't know where she was…AGAIN. She also had deep, blood-gushing scratches down her neck and throat of which the sand had gotten inside and was stinging like no tomorrow. She moaned. She had no idea how she managed to get so far after enduring that battle with Jed. Her broken leg still hurt, and she was exhausted.
Why didn't her infected 'alter ego' just lead itself to a place with people and maybe proper medical facilities?! Why?! She should've just stolen some of Jed's drugs, then none of this would've happened!
She tasted blood- probably her own. She probably tried to tend to her own wounds while she was having her most recent episode. She spat until the taste left her mouth, then sat up. Gross. She was gonna have to get that checked as soon as possible for infection…not that she wasn't already about as infected as she could get by something much worse.
The sandstorm had died down. She saw clear blue skies and mounds of sand as far as the eye could see. Great, she had managed to get herself lost in the desert for the second time in one day. How she managed without water, she'd never know. It had to be at least 110 degrees out there.
She voluntarily swiveled her ears up to see if she could hear anything other than the faint howl of the wind. At least they worked when her nose didn't.
It took a few seconds, but she finally heard something. It wasn't a voice or even a vehicle. It sounded like somebody was banging pots and pans together, but she knew that there were definitely no pots and pans out there in the desert. She desperately hoped it wasn't some sort of audible mirage.
The sound was coming from behind her. She crawled towards the noise slowly and cautiously, as the last noise she heard in the desert was from somebody that wanted to murder her. After a few feet, she realized she was on a steep cliffside, overlooking a village tinier than the one she'd previously lived in. The village was at least a ten miles away though, and there was no way she was going to get down from that cliff with a broken leg.
Wait. She was definitely hearing something in a much closer range than that village. It sounded like it was coming within yelling distance.
"Seline!!"
Definitely yelling distance. Seline scooted herself close to the edge of the cliff and looked down the steep cliff side. "Jed!"
"I thought I really hurt you! Are you okay?!" Down about thirty or forty feet, there sat good ol' scar-faced Jed, sitting on his haunches, grinning his doggy teeth up at her. It looked like he was leashed up to a crayon-blue Jeep. He didn't seem to mind that he was on a leash, though.
"I'm gonna need to get this taken care of SOON," Seline snarled at him, which removed the grin from his face. "How'd you get down there? Whose Jeep is that?"
"I dunno! Some lady's! She tied me up for my own safety or something! She lives down here!"
Really… Seline raised her eyebrow. "How am I supposed to get down there, then?!"
"Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP!!" A third voice, choppy and deeply sprinkled with some sort of Asian accent, added itself to the conversation. "I'm trying to CONCENTRATE!" A large bronze cooking pot came soaring through the air, hitting Jed in the head.
He growled at the pot as it rebounded off of his noggin and sniffed at it when it became docile next to him in the sand. After realizing it wasn't out to get him, he snapped out of it and shook his head.
Seline looked in the direction that the cooking utensil was launched from. There was a sort of miniature coal-mine-looking entrance in the sand. Wooden beams were sticking out of the sand, holding up a plastic green awning, covered in sand from the sandstorm. The little shelter seemed to be handcrafted for a very small person. Probably some sort of desert bandit. There was a dim yellow light on in the burrow, as Seline could see, and somebody was still moving around inside, probably trying to find something else to throw at Jed. Seline knew she would be doing the same thing.
Out popped a head. Seline's eyes widened. That was definitely NOT a regular person. Those ears were bigger than the hyena ones she had! "What are YOU lookin' at, pooch?!" And it SPOKE. Seline had never seen such a creature! She thought only the hyenas could infect people! This…woman was probably only three feet tall, with large black eyes like saucers and huge, round, whitish pink ears. Like a humanoid lab rat! And she was glaring at Seline.
