I was surprised when I lowered my gaze and was met with a normal sized door. Nothing big or overbearing, just a simple yet elegant glass door. Inside was filled with plant life and a white stoned path. The young maid pulled the door open and ushered me in.
“Good luck!”
She quickly retreated back and shut the door, an audible click sounded from the lock. The pitter patter of rain broke the silence, along with chuckling up head on the curving path. A gentle scent wafted into my nose and started to take me down the path. Bright and vivid pink and orange flowers greeted me, their petals shimmering in the few beams of light that penetrated the glass and avoided the trees overhang.
The laughter got louder as I got closer, the Prince’s chuckles died down as I approached a simple metal table. It was large in size but had a simple look to it, it was rusted blue along with the chairs. The Prince looks over in my direction, his back twisting away from me. A small grin grew on his face and he ushered me forward. He was in some simple brown trousers and a white button up shirt. His parents were also in relaxed clothing, his dad in a similar outfit and the queen in a plain brown blouse and skirt. The King had the same pitch dark hair and eyes. The queen had long muted brown hair and bright gray eyes. Her hair curled around her shoulders, her eyes gently blinked.
“Ah, Father, Mother, this is Lina. I choose her as my wife.”
“I see, quite a beauty!”
The King immediately agreed, looking up and down at me up and down, the Queen also took in my figure. Her eyes landed on my neck and her eyes narrowed. The charm shifted around, aware of the woman's stare. The Prince stood up and walked over to me and swooped me up, and went right back to his chair with me now in his lap. The Queen picked up a lone tea cup and brought it to her lips, taking a small sip and setting it down again on the matching plate.
“Son, were you certain about this choice correct?”
“Yes I was.”
“Do you know what you are signing up to?”
“Yes.”
“A marriage contract with a witch.”
“Yes mother. Anything wrong with that?”
She paused for a moment, folding her hands on to her lap and taking a breath.
“You know what it means to be married to a witch?”
The Prince didn’t respond, so the Queen continued.
“To be married to a witch, is to be married forever. It is an ever lasting contract that can never be broken, even by death. So if she dies, you will not be able to marry again. You will not be able to fall in love again. You will never be able to make love to another being, you understand that?”
She narrowed her eyes sharply at me, still eyeing the charm. The Prince shifted slightly, adjusting me on his legs. He brought his arms firmly around my waist and met his mother's gaze.
“I’m prepared to live and die with this person, even if it means I will never be able to lay with another even if she is gone. All the better, because the contract will always make sure I only love Lina, and no one else. At this point I will not turn back on my proposal. I am going to see it through and love this woman with all I have.”
She huffs, but looks to my eyes.
“Are you prepared for it, because on your end…”
I will...
“Yes...I know all too well…”
The Prince eyes the Queen then me, unsure of what will happen to me. The Queen lowers her silver gaze back down to my bust. The charm shivers, tightening its hold on my collar bones.
“And, keep that thing in check. You are giving it too much freedom.”
The charm buzzed angrily, heating up slightly. The Queens face grew enraged, the previous calm state thrown out the window.
“See, it's starting to get a mind of its own. I’m warning you right now.”
Her eyes sharpened to knives, abruptly standing up and approaching me. Her feet echoing on the dense man built floor. A sheen covered her eyes and sparks flew off her eyes.
“If that starts to take over you, and it tries ANYTHING."
She roughly grabs my chin, digging into my cheek with her painted talons.
“I will kill you along with it.”
