I walked slowly into the room Leo had been assigned. A flame was dancing in my fingers. Leo opened the door before I could even knock, and the flame grew as I jumped backward. Leo looked down at my hand and sensed I had something to tell them. “Uhh, yeah, you should probably come in.” I frowned and walked into the room, my confidence disappearing before I could get anywhere close to saying things. Leo smiled and motioned for me to sit on their bed. “What’s up?” They asked, knowing I was not going to start without help. I flinched, but created a flame in my hand and brought it up to Leo’s face. “When I was four I lost control of it. Burned down my house. Luckily no one died, but Mom came out of there with some serious burns. We moved to a more fireproof house, Mom fell in love, got married to a guy when I was seven. He hated me and my powers. He had already developed a deep hatred for me as I was a constant reminder that Mom had fallen in love before, but my birth dad left before I was born. One day he taunted me so much that my flame got out of control. Mom came in and saved the house, saved him, but she died in the process, leaving me with only my stepdad who hated me at age ten. He deemed me a monster and sent me away so I could run from the world. And then I found Neverland.” Leo looked sad as if they understood where I was coming from. “Well, simply said, at age four I learned my family was not exactly human and I lost control and it ended up with a lot more losses than a house.” I put my arms around them in a hug. “I’m so sorry, Leo.” I knew something was definitely going on behind the scenes. Kids born magic were extremely rare, and yet here was another kid born of magic, right beside me, in a place with only about five hundred people.
