Leo -
I looked around at the small room. There was one bunk bed and a bed beside it, but other than that the room was nearly empty. Three cardboard boxes in the corner had messy writing scrawled on them. Leo read one. Alex, Lori. I recognized them as the names written on the door. Outside of the door was a hall filled with rooms like this. I wondered how paradise could be a tiny room with three people shoved into it. Something was off about the way this place was formatted. Anyone can be everyone, and yet I couldn’t erase my fang, and Alex couldn’t get rid of his spark. I was sure now, my red sweatshirt meant more than just the people I was living with. Neverland was sinister, and I was going to find out how.
Alex -
I looked at the door with my name on it. I recognized Leo’s name, too. At least I was going to be with someone I knew. My palm felt a little warm and I looked down to see embers falling to the floor. “Of course,” I muttered angrily. “I’m scared so now I’ll burn down all of Neverland.” Breathing deeply, I walked into the room I shared with two other people.
Leo sat in a corner, holding a small flask. Their pupils had contracted to tiny dots, and a little bit of red stained the corner of their mouth. On the other side of the room sat a girl, I assumed Lori, who was going through a cardboard box. She was completely grey, even her hair and skin. I walked towards her. “They okay?” I asked, motioning to Leo. She shrugged. “They were like that when I came in here and, trust me, you don’t want me messing around with them.” I nodded. “Yeah. I trust that statement. I’m sorry if this is intrusive, don’t answer if you don’t want to, but what’s your power?” Lori leaned away and the box she was holding crumbled into grey dust. “How did you know?” She asked. I sighed. “Because magic born children are extremely rare and yet somehow both me and Leo over there are magically born. I knew something was up when I found that out, but the fact that you are wearing all grey ticked something off in my brain. I think every kid here is magic born, and something’s off about our dear ‘paradise’ that is Neverland. So, what’s your power?” Lori sighed. “I can suck the color out of things, and if they live too long without their color they die. Things without color are also increasingly fragile, like that cardboard box. It crumbled completely because it couldn’t hold up to the weight of the air.” I looked at her grey skin and eyes. “Oh, no, I won’t die,” she said simply. I nodded, looking over at Leo, who was in the same position. “And that’s why you didn’t go over to my buddy there.” She nodded. “You should really go check on him.”
“Leo,” I hissed for the fifth time, shaking their shoulder. “Leo!” They finally looked up and their pupils returned to normal. “You okay?” They looked up. “Oh, yeah I’m fine I just… I’m a vampire. If I don’t… ya know… then this happens.” I gave them a weak smile and looked down at the flask in their hand. They brought it close to their chest. “Oh, yeah, not human, of course.” I nodded and stuck out my hand. They took it and I helped them stand up. “Alright! Let’s go find out what’s behind Neverland!”
