"Hey," Jed leaned down and whispered to miss Beedie Peray, "Isn't that the cutest thing you ever did see?"
Beedie snickered. "Silly gou-gou."
They had finally reached the area where Jed emergency-landed his plane. It was starting to get buried in the sand, or at least the wheels were. Beedie had untied Jed, but she still had her tommy gun at her side in case. Neither of them tried to wake up Seline. She wouldn't be very helpful with a broken leg and un-tended-to open wounds, anyway.
The two of them took a moment out of their work to check on her. She was curled up in the corner of her seat with her nose inches away from the door lock, twitching and fidgeting ever so slightly in a dream state. She let out a soft, quiet whimper and rolled over to face the other direction.
"That's ADORABLE," Jed whispered loudly at Beedie. "Regular humans don't do that. That's the upside of being stuck with the virus." He clasped his hands together and sighed at Seline.
"You don't like her, you said?"
Jed looked down at Beedie. She stood only tall enough to reach his hip, but she was down there, wearing his flight goggles on top of her head, raising her eyebrow at him. "I didn't say any of that!" He snatched his goggles off of her and put them back around his neck. Beedie jumped up in retaliation and tried to get them back, squeaking out 'my shinies!' but Jed ignored her. She was wrong anyways - it was Seline who denied that they liked each other. "I like her…well, when she's not finding reasons to hate me. Her temper's kinda cute…and she's kinda pretty for a carrier…" He leaned down onto the door and watched Seline while she slept. His animal side was getting the better of him. "It's not like I'm some sort of creep for finding this to be attractive, right?" He directed his attention back down at Beedie.
The rodent woman sighed, grabbed the door handle to pull herself up over the side of the Jeep and looked from sleeping Seline to infatuated Jed. "Has it been a long time?"
"Whaddya mean?"
"How long you been friends?"
"Like… twenty-four whole hours." Jed grinned at Beedie as if that was something to be proud of. "That is, if you consider me and her as friends. She kinda hates me. I dunno what I did, but she really can't stand me."
"You kiddin' me?!" Beedie jumped back down, put her sunglasses back on and skitter-marched back up to Jed's plane. "She needs medical attention, and the 'healing power of love' doesn't count."
"Right, right." It wasn't like Jed was in love with her, anyways. It was just too difficult to find friends as an infected. Seline was the only other virus carrier he'd ever seen—at least in person. And he wasn't just gonna give up on her because she was a bitch to him! Besides, his inner animal instincts wouldn't pipe down about how suitable a mate she was.
He dragged himself back over to the plane, looking back at Seline the whole time, then he yanked the side door of the aircraft open. "Couldja climb up in there and get a first aid kit?" he asked little Beedie Peray.
"Gladly."
