Mom always knows how to make me feel better. As she talked with dad I could somewhat makeout his voice. He sounded more excited than how I feel when Mom says ‘cookout’ on a Friday. She hung up the phone and got ready. I had to head back upstairs to change and throw on my black and red nikes. When I was done I zoomed down the stairs.
“You ready?” “Very. Where are we eating?” “Ihop. Where else?” Mom chuckled and rolled her eyes in a playful way. I couldn’t help but chuckle myself. I had to wait for her to unlock the doors before I could hop in the car. The moment my skin touched the seat my phone vibrated.
“Who is it,” mom asked concerningly as I put my phone away instead of answering. “Ty.” I didn’t feel like talking about it so I looked out the window. Mom turned on the music to get our vibe back. Before I knew it, I found ourselves at Ihop. I got out of the car and walked in after mom.
“What do you want? It can be anything.” “You know my favorite mom.” “I figured we’d try something a little different this time. Change up our style.” “Then I’ll try the Southwest Scramble.” The waitress came to our table and asked for our meal. “I’ll take two of your Southwest Scrambles.” “Will that be all?” “I would also like to get two of your Ihop Splashers.”
“I’m surprised I actually got you to try something other than blueberry pancakes.” “I’m just as surprised as you are. If it doesn't taste good then I get to drive the car home.” “Deal.” The deal was struck once we shook hands.
Not long after we order we got our meal. It taste so good. “So who's driving the car,” Mom asked. “Not me apparently.” She dug through her bag fishing for something that I could only assume was her keys. She pulls out her keys and lays them on my side of the table.
“Can I really?” “I don’t see why not. Just don’t kill us.” “I love you so much mom.” I would’ve gotten up and hugged her, but there were too many people walking past our table.
We finish our food up rather quickly. Mom raced to the passenger seat. I unlock the doors so she could get in. “We’re going to go to the store first. I want some snacks for our movie. Do you know where that’s at?” “I watch you drive there quite a bit mom. Of course I know where it’s at.”
I change the gear out of park into reverse since mom didn’t park backwards. Then after I was out of the parking space I changed gears to drive. Once I pull out of the parking space and stop under a red light I look at mom. She looks so happy and carefree. I’m glad that she’s still happy, even without dad by her side.
