Sun Cycles

As one sun sets
Another befalls
Rising BRIGHTER
Than the one before
Lording over the land
Basking in its power
Deciding who will
Live and die by
Scorching the Earth
Melting the sea
Stealing breaths
Some will burn
Some liquefy
Only a few survive
A new sun soars
Replacing its brother
Renewing the cycle
Across the blazing sky
The story of "Houyi and the Ten Suns" was an inspiration for this poem. Written on a hot, sunny day, my thoughts went to this story and how time carries on without regards to who lives or dies.
