Flight

What once was confined
Now released to the world:
Mourning
Despair
Faint flutters of wings
Ascending to worlds unknown
Returned to the heavens
She goes
And below
Surges floodwater tears
Soaking those who remain
Staring up at the sky
Wondering where it is the butterflies go
A short one this time.
Back in high school an alumnus passed away, and although I'd never met them I felt a little grief.
I originally wrote this poem as a tribute to that person and hope that they find peace wherever they are now.
