Lukas could barely concentrate during class. He kept thinking about what had happened in the storeroom. He wondered what Tate would do to him. Would it be as good as what he just experienced? Would it be better? Or then again, would Tate be mean and make him feel bad? There was so many thought running through his mind.
Lukas felt Charlie’s eyes on him, and he turned around to look at him. Charlie started to write on a piece of paper. Lukas waited as Charlie finished writing and slipped it towards him.
Charlie: Where were you this morning? Mr. Keaton kept glaring at me.
Lukas looked at the note and sighed. He knew he could tell Charlie about anything. He couldn’t tell him he was talking about Tate.
Lukas: I talked to the guy. Well actually. I talked to a guy.
He didn’t know why he lied. But he didn’t correct himself.
Charlie: A guy? Not the one you were talking about last time? The one you said you saw having sex? And?
Lukas: No. Someone else. He said he would help me.
Charlie: What do you mean? What happened?
Lukas looked at the piece of paper and thought for a minute. He wasn’t sure how much to tell him because he wasn’t sure if Charlie would guess who it was. Lukas bit his lip and started to write.
Lukas: I told him about my problem, and he agreed to help.
Charlie read it and pouted.
Charlie: Do you think he is actually going to help you?
Lukas: I don’t know. He had all these rules that I have to follow. It sounds more complicated than anything else. I’ll see when he texts me.
Charlie nodded as he slipped the paper in his textbook.
“Okay, well, let me know when you’re sure if he’s going to really help you or not.”
“Yeah.”
Lukas nodded and turned around to face the front of the class. After a few minutes, he finally decided it was time to put his anxiety aside and started to write down notes when he felt his cell phone vibrate. He slowly took it out and opened it. He thought that maybe Alec was thanking him for lending him his apartment, but it was from an unknown number. Lukas opened the text, and his eyes widened.
Unknown: We'll start tonight. Make sure you're alone. I'll text you when I'm ready. I need to get supplies. Text me your address.
Lukas started to get nervous again. He had just asked Tate for his help, and they were already going to start. He thought he would at least have a few days to prepare mentally. The bell rang, announcing the end of the first period, and it caused Lukas to jump. Charlie looked at him.
"Why are you so jumpy?" Lukas didn't say a word and turned his phone towards Charlie. He didn't mind showing him since Tate's name wasn't there. He didn't have to be afraid of revealing anything. "Already?" Charlie was as surprised as Lukas. "What supplies is he talking about?"
"I don't know." Lukas pulled the phone back towards him. "What do I do? I'm scared now."
"Why?" Charlie leaned in closer to him. "Don't you want to be cured of this?"
"I do. But… what if he's like a sadist or something." Lukas lowered his head. "I don't even know what he's going to do."
"Hey." Charlie grabbed Lukas's hand. "Listen to me. If you don't like what he's doing, tell him. And if not knowing scares you, ask him before he starts."
"You're right." Lukas nodded.
"So I guess that means I can't come over tonight."
"I guess not." Lukas sighed. "Are you going to be okay?"
"Of course. Don't worry about me." Lukas nodded, but he couldn't help but worry when it came to Charlie. They were best friends. Brothers. He would always be worried about him. "Text me when he's gone. I'll come after to make sure he didn't tie you up and whip you."
Lukas laughed nervously. He didn't think Tate would go that far, but now that the image had been implanted in his brain, he didn’t think he’d be able to relax. Lukas jumped again when his cell phone vibrated in his hand.
Unknown: Address now!
Even though it was a text, Lukas had the impression that Tate was right there, yelling at him. Lukas quickly texted him back and slipped his phone back into his pocket.
What did I get myself into?
