Chapter 4: You Can be a Hero

Deku’s P.O.V

“I’ve been waiting for you for a long time,” All Might said.

I was surprised as I was talking to All Might in the flesh.

“Sir,” I said stammering, “It…. Its an honor to meet you. You worked with my dad.”

“Why yes I did son, and i’ve seen you put in some hard work yourself.”

I was still feeling down about not having a quirk.

“Well to be honest I don’t have a quirk so I doubt i’ll be as good of a hero as you,” I said.

As I turned around smoke emerged from him.

I turned to face him and saw a skinny man.

“Wait a second!!!” I said, “What happened to All Might?!”

He showed me a scar.

“It was from a battle with One For All,” he said, “Because of the injury I can only manage this form for a limited time.”

“I see,” I said.

“My days as All Might are becoming numbered, and I have spent years finding a successor,” he said to me, “Just when I was about to give up, I saw you.”

He remembered when I stood up for Mineta, and helped out my friends with assignments.

I also helped with the costume design idea with Uraraka.

“You want me to be your successor?” I asked.

“Not just be my successor,” he explained, “I also want to give you something special; My quirk. I can also train you to use it wisely so you don’t injure yourself.”

“But….. I’m just a kid,” I said, “I’m not worthy of such an honor.”

“You do things out of the ordinary and put others before yourself,” All Might said, “This alone makes you worthy.”

I thought for a moment.

“Alright,” I said.

All Might smiled.

“Now shake my hand.”

I did as instructed.

An energy surged flowed through me.

After a few seconds it stopped.

“Odd…. I don’t feel any different,” I said.

“It takes a few hours for your quirk to activate,” All Might said, “That’s what happened with me.”

“Ok,” I said.

The next day we were heading to school.

Uraraka was walking by my side.

“Hey, thanks again for those study notes,” she said, “They really helped me out with the exam.”

“Don’t mention it,” I said.

Gosh, every time I’m around her I get these feelings.

She’s so kind, encouraging, and cute….. Wait, Did I just say cute?

Later after classes, we were at lunch.

“Izuku!” Said one of the students, “I saved you a seat.”

I went by them and someone stole my pudding cup.

It was Speedster.

“What?” He asked.

I went to the chair and the other one tripped me.

I ended up dropping my lunch on Bakugo.

“Ooooooh shit,” Speedster said.

Bakugo glared at me.

“Think you’re pretty funny don’t you freak?” He asked.

“Wait, it was just an accident,” I said.

“No, my fist breaking your teeth is gonna be an accident.”

He started walking towards me.

“Hey leave Deku alone!” Uraraka said.

The bullies held them back.

Bakugo used his quirk and blew some objects out of the way.

I kept running from him.

“You can run but you can’t hide!” He said as he kept coming.

With every blow, he kept coming closer and closer.

“Get back!” I said.

I was glowing green and pushed my hand forward and a strong gust of wind came out pushing him back.

“Whoa…..” I said.

I finally unlocked my quirk.

Uraraka was amazed.

“Wow,” she said.

He started coming at me again but then the principal arrived and stopped him.

The both of us were in detention.

“Listen, I didn’t even start this.”

“Well too bad cause I’m gonna finish it.”

He tried using his quirk but to no avail.

“This room neutralizes all quirks,” Nezu, “At this school we do what we can teach you how to use your quirks for good. Try to keep this in mind before you do something irresponsible.”

He left the room.

“Listen, I think we can take this opportunity to try and get along for the rest of the year,” I said, “What do you say?”

“I say, you got a set of balls to actually fight back.”

He turned away.

Later I was heading home to tell my parents the good news.

“Mom, Dad, something happened at school!” I said.

“We heard,” Mom said, “The principal called about what happened.”

“Well, yeah there was a fight but….. I got my quirk,” I said.

“But did you use it wisely?” Dad asked.

“Now now, I think this needs more of….. a mother’s touch.”

I was in the main room with her.

“Izuku Midoriya…..” She begun, “Come here.”

I was confused.

“Wait… you’re not mad?”

“How could I be mad?” She asked, “My baby boy unlocked his quirk!!!”

She gave me a hug.

“Ok, if your father asks, tell him I gave you the riot act and took away your switch.”

“But I don’t have a switch.”

“Well you do now,” she said bringing a gift.

Someone was watching us.

“So he’s finally unlocked his quirk,” he said, “We should wait longer though. When the timing is right, we’ll have our revenge.”

I was with my friends at the main room.

“So you finally got your quirk,” Denki asked.

“You know its really similar to All Might’s,” Tsuyu said.

“Yeah I never thought about that…” I said nervously.

Mr. Aizawa arrived with a note.

“Deku, under your father’s wishes, we have decided to move you up to the Hero’s schedule,” he said, “Since you now have a quirk, it looks like you’ll be moving up.”

Uraraka looked at me.

“Congrats Deku,” she said smiling.

I almost took the letter but I was hesitant.

Although this was something I really wanted, it wouldn’t be as fun without someone to share it with.

“If I go, they go too,” I said.

I was pointing at Uraraka and my other friends.

Aizawa grinned.

“I thought you’d say something like that,” he said, “And that’s why I have another idea that will benefit everyone.”
