To say that the first few minutes in that room were awkward was an understatement. My mind was completely blank on what just happened. I feel like in the span of 30 seconds, I relived my entire life as I was accepting my death, but this man came out of nowhere, quite literally, and saved my life. There was so much going on in my mind that it hurt. I don't even want to mention the thoughts that were going off.
You are one stupid girl Anne, you know that? Dragging yourself in this hell and still haven't found a way out. What the hell is wrong with you?
I can't believe we're alive! Holy crap, I thought I was done for...I am horrified right now..
I shook my head and looked up at the man who saved my life. He was still staring at the door as if he was in a trance. I don't blame him. When you save both you and a random stranger from a horrific creature with seconds to spare, you have a lot on your mind.
I took this time to actually look at him and see his details. He didn't seem much older than me, but he had a beard that stretched to his hair. His hair was medium to long size, a bit poofy while ending with a mini tail at the end. He wore a leather jacket that was unzipped and underneath was a white t-shirt. His sleeve was cut up and I could see that he was all scratched and bruised up. From the looks of it, he's been through worse than me.
After a minute, he finally snapped out of his trance and looked over at me, and judging by the look on his face, he was relieved that one, he wasn't by himself in this nightmare, and two, that I was ok. He sat down across from me and we stood silent for a moment
….
"Nice weather we're having." The man said, obviously trying to lighten the mood
…
"Yeah I didn't expect a reaction..and somehow I still have some..weird."
I looked over at the man, who was staring at the ground, in thought
"...thank you" I said quietly
"Don't mention it. You're lucky that I was there."
He's got a point. My thought chimed in.
"Who are you..?" I asked, ignoring my mind
"The name's Alexander, but you can call me Alex..or Axe as my friends tend to say."
He made a face at this remark and it actually got me to chuckle, and I can tell he was happy to see that.
"My name's Anne, it's nice to know that I'm not alone."
"You can say that for both of us..I didn't expect to see anyone else here.." he looked down solemnly.
"What are you doing here Alex?" I questioned
"My stupid friends put me on a dare to go into this ruin, saying that I'd be too scared for it. Well I wanted to prove them wrong, but lemme just say, I'd be kissing their asses if it meant I can get out of here."
We both started chuckling.
"Yeah, I would agree with you there."
He looked at me and cocked his head.
"Why are you here?" Alex asked me
"I heard about this place, and I wanted to check it out. I did not want to go this deep though. I kinda got trapped and fell down."
"Are you talking about the walls closing in from the top?" He asked, curious.
"Yeah, I stepped on a button of some kind and the walls closed on me, and I fell backwards off the platform." I recalled seeing myself fall from who knows how high, and my spine shivered.
"Same here mate, I didn't know what was happening and I stumbled."
"Let me guess, you fell on some trash too?"
He chuckled at the question.
"I'm assuming you did too?" He asked, chuckling.
"Yeah, it was definitely better than the metal floor." I said
"You can say that again!" He laughed
We went silent for a moment, collecting our thoughts and calming down from our chuckles. I'm surprised I managed to get a smile across my face. Even my thoughts mentioned this with a remark.
Surprised you're laughing considering you almost died 5 minutes ago.
I shook my head and looked at Alex, who was wiping his eyes.
"How long have you been down here?"
"I can only imagine a few hours. I don't have a phone on me to see the time."
MY PHONE
My head lifted up in realization.
"My phone! Why didn't I think of that?! I can call someone to help us out of here!"
My face turned into a big smile as I realized I could get us out of here. I quickly looked through all the pockets I had before feeling my phone in one of them. When I pulled it out however, I was immediately disappointed to see that it was massively cracked and wasn't functional.
"If it makes you feel better, when I fell down, I broke my flashlight, so at least you are able to see." Alex said, trying to cheer me up.
"..we're not gonna get out of here..with that THING roaming the halls, there's no chance.."
I started to panic and hyperventilate as I felt the walls close in on me, while my thoughts blared in the background. I was shaking hard, and I couldn't breathe.
"Woah, hey Anne, stay with me here. Breathe" Alex said, rushing to my side and placing a hand on my shoulder
He helped me out there. He would tell me to slowly breathe in, and then after a few seconds I'd breathe out. It took a minute because I was so lost, but I eventually found myself again, and I heard the voices die out.
"Thanks Alex.." I said
"Trust me, I felt the same way, but I have noticed some stuff with that...thing." He said, while pointing at the wall.
"From what it seems, that thing can't hear. There should've been so many times where I would be dead..but apparently the thing can't hear, or is just very deaf" He stated
I thought for a second before chuckling.
"..what?" He asked
"You screamed like a baby..didn't you?" I said before laughing
Alex started blushing hard, and looked away.
"You know you shouldn't be talking. I bet you would be the same way seeing an 8 foot creature appear in front of you!" He tried to be serious, but he soon started laughing along with me.
It took a moment for us to calm down, but we eventually did. Afterwards, I looked back at the door.
"You think the creature is..gone?" I asked, cautiously
Alex looked back at the door, then at me, and shrugged.
"Possibly, I mean we've only been here for 15 minutes, it could've pissed off."
Alex stood up and started walking towards the wall.
"Alex..what are you doing..?"
"I'm gonna go check if it's clear." He stated, as if that wasn't a danger to consider.
"Alex wait! Jesus, that's dangerous. What if it's not clear?"
"It's been long enough, I doubt it's still there.."
He slowly creaked the wall open. First little by little, leaning back and forth to see if he can get a glimpse of it.
Unfortunately he didn't react in time, as the wall was pried open from the other side. I saw Alex Yelp in fear, before two massive white hands grabbed him and yanked him out. I quickly jumped to my feet and ran out with my flashlight.
I looked around and saw that in the middle of the room, he was being hoisted up by his leather jacket by this thing. The creature was tall, at least 3 feet taller than me. It had huge hands that were boney and had long fingers. His back was hunched as he looked at Alex. Alex was kicking and squirming, doing everything he could. He was powerless against the iron grip the creature had on him.
I frantically looked around, seeing if there was anything I could use to at least distract the beast, and surely enough, I saw a clump of rock laying on the ground. In a couple of steps, I grabbed the rock and aimed for the creature's head, as it was trying to get a bite out of him.
Right as the creature was about to bite down, the rock hit the back of his head, and the creature spun around and saw me. I stepped back and looked at this thing horrified. Up close, I could see its teeth. They were sharp and discolored. Some were yellow, some were white, and some seemed to be dark red..as if it was dried blood.
You really did it this time idiot!
The creature dropped Alex on the ground and quickly spun around to face me. His eyes flashed the same red glow I saw earlier down the hall and started charging towards me. I backed up and was protecting my face with my arms, but when I did that, I was still holding my flashlight, and the light aimed directly to its face.
Even though the creature was within its reach to grab me, it stopped in its tracks. I looked up and saw that the creature was rubbing its eyes, doing anything it could to get away from the light. I realized I was blinding it, and keeping it back, and I quickly used this to my advantage.
I upped the brightness on my flashlight and pointed it directly in its eyes. The creature screeched as it covered its eyes. Soon enough, it tumbled backwards and laid down, seeming like it was rolling in pain. I looked over at Alex, who was still on the ground, gasping for air.
"We have to go, now! Get up and head for the hall!"
"You don't need to tell me twice!" Alex sprung up and quickly booked it for the hall. I walked slowly backwards, watching the creature twitch on the ground, and once I reached the entryway way, I turned and started running with Alex.
"Looks like you found out his weakness, but I don't think it'll keep him down for long!"
Alex was right. As he stated that, we both heard clattering from the end of the hall, and we saw the creature stumbling to the entryway, looking at us. It hesitated at first, slowly getting up, and in one swift blink, he was standing fully. His eyes turned red once again, and we could see blood leaking from it. It howled at the top of its lungs and started running.
Alex and I ran down the hall as fast as we could, and ever so slowly, we could hear the creature's footsteps get closer and closer. At this rate, we wouldn't make it unless we did something.
"What are we gonna do? It's gonna catch up in no time!" Alex gasped as he glanced behind us.
I remembered my phone, and quickly grabbed it out of my pocket
"Time to make use out of this!" I said, and with one swift motion, I threw it backwards with all the strength I had. I managed to get a good hit on it, as the creature tripped up from being hit in the face. We heard it howl again as it started to climb back to its feet.
We kept running for what felt like hours. We didn't dare slow down to catch a breath. We knew if we stopped now, we were gone. If we didn't figure out something soon, we'd be dead.
"Anne, look! Up ahead!"
I looked forward in the red lit hall and I saw what Alex was pointing at. It was a button. The same one that I stepped on up top. It was sticking out of the ceiling.
"If we can reach that, perhaps we can close some kind of wall to save ourselves!"
"How do you know it won't trap us?!" I screamed, trying desperately to breathe in my burning lungs.
"You got a better idea?" He said
The creature was about a few feet behind us now. A few more steps and we would be within reach of its long arms. I focused my line of sight on the button.
Only a few more steps..
I gritted my teeth, and pushed myself to the limit. I ran as fast as I could, out running Alex slowly, heading for the button. I could hear the creature's breath now..I just needed a few more steps...
The button was right in front of me, and with one last push of my energy, I forced myself to jump and hit the button with all of my might. It pushed in the ceiling, and moments later, we heard a crack in the ceiling. We turned around and saw a huge block of wall drop right in front of the creature, as it was about to pounce on us.
I didn't have the energy to brace my legs to land. I flopped on the ground, gasping for air. I couldn't feel anything within my body, the burning sensation was so high, that I felt like I was on fire. Alex quickly stepped to the side of me and looked down.
"Anne, you alright?"
I gave a weak thumbs up, towards him, and I heard him chuckle
"Sure you are."
I felt him grab me by the shoulders and lift me up back to my feet.
"You..saved me...thank you.." Alex said, smiling compassionately
"Just….paying….you….back" I said, taking three seconds to take a breath.
We both heard clawing at the wall behind us, as the creature tried to open it up, but it was stuck..for now.
"We need to get going now. We don't know how long that wall will last. Can you walk?"
I flexed my legs and moved around slowly. Even though it hurt, I could
"Yeah…I can"
"Good. Let's get going then."
We both slowly walked out the hallway, as the creature on the other side snarled and clawed at the wall.
Wanting blood.
