Hearing a knock on the door, I quickly covered my whole body with the towel.
“You okay in there? Could I come in?” Shae’s voice was soft, as if she were talking to a scared animal that might run away if she spoke to loudly. “I have some clean clothes for you.” I shakily turned the handle of the door, opening the door just enough to pass the cloths through. Seeing Shae’s round face was somewhat comforting. Opening the door wider, I let Shae hand me the cloths, which was some of her and Andromeda’s cloths.
When Shae left, I quickly got dressed. I left the bathroom, shivering as I stepped out of the warm, steamy room. As I walked back into the living room, Andromeda snickered once she saw me. I was wearing one of her flannels over a white t-shirt with a pair of warm pants. All of which was too big for my thin frame.
“Milo, did you even dry your wings?” Shae asked with a smirk. My wings were dripping wet, making puddles on the floor. I hurriedly looked away, blushing from embarrassment. I heard a slight chuckle from Andromeda’s side of the couch.
Suddenly feeling a towel behind pushed onto my wings, I spun around to see who was trying to dry off my wings. When I did turn around, I was surprised to see Amelia. Smiling, I picked her up and gave her a hug. I spun around in a circle, making her giggle. Hearing Amelia laugh made me smile. She was like a younger sister to me, and I would do anything to make sure she was safe, even if that meant my happiness or even life got taken away. She reminded me of my younger sister. I had cared for her a lot, but then she was taken away from me on the night of the fire. I gave her one last squeeze and set her down.
“Milo why are you sad?” turning my attention to Amelia, I crouched down and smiled.
“I’m fine, don’t you worry.” I signed, then ruffled her hair then stood up, quickly brushing a tear that started to form from my eye.
“Milo,” Shae’s voice made me turn around to look back at her. “Why don’t you stay here for the night.” I could her the concern in her voice. I knew it would put her at ease if I did.
“Alright, but I need to grab a few things from my house first.” I turned to her, signing more quickly this time. Shae gave me a warm smile and nodded with a relived look on her face.
