Do you believe in destiny, the unexpected, punch to the gut, throw to the wall type or the quiet unassuming love come softly kind? Either way I never believed in either and definitely didn’t believe it could be a person. It’s a different kind all on its own, a kind of beyond common knowledge and understanding, frozen in time, the ultimate cosmic alignment that only mystics and empaths of a deep and burrowing connect to the universe can see and feel.
This one of a kind destiny rips you both apart scatters you to the corners of the universe only to bring you forever connected but separate, forever walking the same path, forever the cliché yin and yang, different halves of the same coin, Light and Dark.
Yearning and wanting desperately searching for something no one not even you understand. But the thing about destiny is that it always finds you whether you seek it or not. Whether you believe in it or not and I certainly did not....
Eros was dying and feeding on the large livestock that they kept was not healing him. He needed human essence and he needed it quickly, thought Dimitra. Like everyone else in the clan, she was worried for their future emperor as well. He was her one true equal and was the only one that could bring her the things she wanted, he was vital to her goals of ruling this clan and the human world. If she could manipulate him into getting what she wanted, she would always feign that love.
Even if he claimed he didn't feel the same way, it didn't matter. Both their parents wanted the union, his parent the high Emperor and Empress of the demon city Caina were eager for Eros to marry and marry well. Both her parents were high council members and of imperial blood. They also wanted the same for their daughter and to have her become the next Empress of the East Coastal Incubi/Succubae World was their ultimate vision. The Incubi world even though they ruled the entire region chose chose to live separately from other demons. They were a powerful and ancient kind that even other demon types were wary of them; they could drain the life from any being to sustain themselves that alone made them fearsome and dangerous to many.
As sick as Eros was, she knew he was strong enough to last another day. They would bring in another cow and he would feed then tonight she would go hunting and bring him what he truly needed to recover. If she could find the human hunters who did this to him, she would drag them all to him and watch him drain every one of them with great enjoyment.
The hunters were a nuance that continued to hunt and kill their kind and fellow demons. They had the backing of the Catholic Church and it is said their orders and assignments came straight from the Vatican. Moreover, their order dated back the birth of the Roman born Church. She didn't care where they came from or who they were; she would wipe them off the face of the earth. Then their higher-ranking officials, after that there would be no one to stop her from enslaving and devouring the humans, she would truly make cattle of them all.
The sickness that plagued Eros was unlike anything they have ever seen. The hunters ambushed them as they made their way back home from the yearly gathering. The Gathering was a yearly meeting of the demon world where new laws and rules were created; old ones were challenged and/or removed. New council members were named, judgements on rogue demons were passed, knowledge and ideas were exchanged, and demon unions were made.
The last part was something that Dimitra was hoping for with Eros, a union between them would have solidified her place and future rule but he was adverse of the idea of her as his mate. She remembered back to the last conversation they had…
“Eros, I hear we have you to thank for several of the new progressive laws set to be approved. Including the right for royal blood to married who they chose,” Dimitra’s father added with disdain.
Eros turned his full attention to him as he held eye contact with him. He simply wanted to see what the old man would do when someone who wasn’t afraid of his reputation or title challenged him. Marcus cleared his throat and looked away which cause Eros to smirk in return.
“Yes, I think we should be progressive and forward thinking, don’t you? We are in every other area except for this one, after all much of these laws were set in place eons ago even you were not born yet,” Eros responded.
In truth, it was his way of refusing to marry Dimitra. His parent and hers formed the arranged marriage without his knowledge, consent or thoughts of what he wanted. He wasn’t ready to marry and if he were it would not be to Dimitra, there was something about her that caused him disdain. He was not sure what it was but it was there. In all truth, he had no real or severe emotions towards her but knew that she wasn’t the one for him.
His mate would be a unique and rare one that he would see and know the moment he laid eyes upon her and so far, in his twelve hundred and thirty-seven years he has yet to meet her. Now he began to wonder if she existed at all.
Dimitra knew that Eros didn’t want to be marry and especially to her, but she wanted him and nothing, for that matter, no one would stop from getting what she wanted. It had always been that way and she wasn’t about to stop now.
“I think it is a wonderful idea, allow everyone to follow their hearts and led them to their true love,” She looked straight to Eros as she said this. While he busied himself looking toward the crowd around him.
Her eyes blazed red matching the scarlet redness of her hair, but she quickly suppressed it as not show that his dismissal of her bothered her. Eros’s mother wondered why her son was so against the union when it would only strengthen their whole on their kingdom and create a powerful alliance and bear strong proud off springs.
Not to mention, that Dimitra was a beautiful creature by any right. Demons of every race wanted her, and humans enthrall by her beauty most following it to their deaths. She was tall even for most female demons, with alabaster skin and silk like hair that tumbled down to her waist. Her features were delicate enough that it fooled most into thinking her weak and helpless, she was by leaps and bounds one of the most feared fighters in the kingdom. Although, she could not match Eros and there were few who could. Even so, her son seemed to be completely disinterested and even angry with the match. Yes, she would have to talk with Eros and get him to change his mind about Dimitra.
“Son, come walk with your mother for a bit, am I in need of some fresh air.” She rose from the table and waited for Eros to join her. Her husband, the Emperor took her hand and kissed it gently even after three thousand years together they still had a love that rivaled many.
The Empress and Eros left the great hall walked into the garden, it was amazing what science and magic could create these days. Even for being underground, flowers of all kinds blossomed all around, beautiful stone crafted statues and water feature accentuated the garden beauty. While they walked the stone pathways led to further undiscovered beauties and mysteries, she would have to meet with the garden keepers and find out their secrets so she can have one of her own constructed back at home.
