Ara, drops them off at the Dormitory's door a few minutes later; the young woman certainly could sprint. Morgane sometimes wondered what the trainers had her train with when run training her, pulling old fashioned mill stones perhaps? Granted there probably was a few extra lying around the city, as all flours were stone ground for texture.
It occurred to Morgane just then that she actually had more work to do on her find this evening, even if she was going to shower; while she hated using the computer she was certain that the shard was probably scanned into the city's data storage. That way she can use her terminal to bring up a 3D image of it to continue to analyze the image on it and write all her thoughts down.
Jesse came running down the stairs of the Dorm with Samuel casually sweeping them not quite watching her. “Oh my Lords are you two alright I heard about that nasty business with the tourist, Morgane dear your parents want you to ring them at their restaurant when you have a spare moment.” Triton holds up his hand half expecting the childless to run into the two of them, “it's alright Jesse. I gave the young man something to work on if he wants to have a fight with Morgane, it should take him a few days to complete the task in the most minimum fashion. I dear say it is however possible that he'll never get it completed and will leave 'defeated',” Triton chuckles at the end. Morgane could see Samuel nodding slowly in response to the statement by Triton, Jesse does stop her forward motion about five foot away from the two of them.
“Well, I am sure you know what you are doing Triton;” Jesse says still looking very concerned. Triton nods his head and not quite gently tugs Morgane along while heading into the Dorm. Morgane sometimes envied Ara and Destin who technically had their internship periods at younger ages. Destin since he showed potential at a young age his father just started him working the forge early, it was funny when they had stints on the farms as Destin would find a way to slip away a few hours every day to go work the forges. He also had sharpened every implement on the farms they stayed at to extreme sharpness. Ara halfway through middle school had decided she wanted to run a business and was good at running and noticed that sometimes people liked being lazy when they were tired so she started up her rickshaw business.
Morgane and Triton head to their rooms, Morgane dropping her pack on her work table and going right for the shower grabbing a wool lounger to wear when she finished cleaning up. Like the melons and other foods grown under the sea the fur bearing creatures starting developing odd colorations compared to those on the surface. Most wool have a slight green tinge, the biochemists after running some tests had commented that it appeared that copper was leaching into the biochemistry of those living in the domed city. Though it appears it takes a long time for those from the surface to have any kind of change over, biologically even the humans were showing signs of it. Which is probably a better reason as to why it was hard for the younger generation to live at the surface.
When she came out of the shower and headed toward her phone first to call her parents as Jesse suggested to her, Triton called to her. “Seems your father had stopped by and prepped the fajitas for me, my guess is he stopped by to make sure we had proper food and saw what I had picked up and decided to help us out; so tell him thanks for me.”
Morgane picked up the phone receiver and asked the switchboard to connect her to her parent's restaurant, Morgane imagined any 'guests' they had were probably annoyed there wasn't wifi or cell signal within the city, but the residents preferred it that way. The old tech worked just fine and it limited what resources they used up, and in their domed city space was a resource.
Glydwr answers the phone, “Anraith's restaurant how can I help you? “ Morgane chuckles into the phone receiver, “it's just me Glydwr; can you get one of my parents please?” Glydwr answers her in an excited voice, “oh in a moment dear; do you know how many people have been talking about you today? The whole city is a buzz about the tourist, even more so after you encountered him; did the trainers and Triton really step in front of you?” Morgane was use to how quickly news traveled around the city, but not at having it directed at her. “Yes Glydwr they did, and that man was being ridiculous. Please go get one of my parents? I have work to do still and I haven't eaten as yet, you wouldn't want my father to hear you prevented me from having a meal do you?” Triton chuckled from the kitchen hearing what Morgane said to Glydwr, the young man just bubbled over with exuberance it sometimes got away from him and he needed reminding to focus. “Oh Gods no, he'd skin me alive worse than the trainers would for dropping a piece of armor on the ground. Just a minute dear.” Glydwr quickly said and from the sounds of it dropped the phone, oddly after a moment the normal background noise you hear in the restaurant even over the phone went deathly quiet then her father picked the phone up. “Hey kiddo, heard about your day; your mother is beside herself of course. I am sure you will be just fine though especially with Triton making sure everything is legal.” Morgane chuckled I am so glad dad answered instead of mom, she'd be fawning over me. “Oh dad, Triton said thank you for the prep you did on our dinner; it's making his efforts much quicker. As I have work still to do on a find I made it's good you took him aside and showed him proper cooking, or we'd have had Ara stop at a take out stand on our way back.” She could hear her father gasp at the concept of his daughter eating take out, “not my daughter. If you two ever wind up that tired just phone us and we'll send someone by with a nice meal.” Morgane laughs imagining that he'd send over enough to feed the whole Dorm at one time just for the two of them.
“Which would be unnecessary dad and you know it, plus I wouldn't need to feed the whole Dorm.” He laughs at her comment, “what I enjoy my work as does your mother. This city was the best thing to happen to all of us living here kiddo, but you kids are going to be something special I just have this feeling.” Morgane paused as she recalled hearing the director saying something similar, she began to wonder if all the adults thought the same. “Well, if Triton is right, and he generally is. We won't have to worry about Mr. Francois for a few days, he first has to find a surface lawyer and witness to agree to come down here; then draw up a legal document that would be valid on the surface.” Morgane heard what sounded like a shushing noise from her father's end of the phone, “well then I wish the boy luck. Very few people like to come here as were are so different from society on the surface that surfacers are uncomfortable down here. I'll let you get back to working kiddo, “her father then speaks louder as if to carry over the whole restaurant. “As everyone here seems to not want to eat a bite till I get off this phone and tell them what you said.” The people behind her father started quietly talking again sheepishly she guessed.
She said her goodnight to her father and hung up the phone receiver, and walked over to her detested computer terminal. Morgane never understood the fascination the surfacers had with the high end technological gadgets, they really didn't make life easier on an individual person. In Morgane's expectations they actually added to stress and most information you can find on it; if you know what you are looking for can be found in other places. Now it did have it's positives like the reason Morgane was about to use it, looking over a 3D image of a piece of and ancient pot that could crumble in your hands; is much safer to look at a rendered image of instead.
Morgane addresses the computer, “computer bring up image of pot shard designation Item A acquired from the Dig site today recorded by Morgane Anraith render a 3D model over the worktable resize 3X magnification.” The computer displayed the pot shard a foot above the worktable at triple the magnification. This way Morgane could see the detail on the figures better to help analyze what was going on in the scene.
Triton sets the food on the counter in the kitchenette and assembles a plate full for Morgane knowing full well nothing was going to yank her from her work at this moment. He was the same way when deciphering a dead language for translation. He speaks to Morgane's computer, “computer turn on dictation mode answerable to Morgane Anraith's voice only.” Morgane takes a moment and smiles at him and then looks back at her work. Triton chuckles to himself walking a plateful of food over to Morgane and setting it on the edge of her worktable nudging her towards it. “I promise I will only speak in yes no questions from this point forward to prevent messing up your dictation, so just shake your head or nod for response.” Morgane nods picking up a loaded fajita dripping in hot sauce, Triton hands her a napkin as well to keep the drips hopefully to a minimum.
Morgane's dictation:
Item A appears to be a pot shard of unknown material type possibly an amalgam of glass and clay. Item A appears to be brittle, and is currently being stored in an attempt at keeping the piece whole. There are what appears to be dancing figures, figures appear to have long ears. Most have what appear to be either tails or weapons as well.
Morgane speaks directly to the computer, “computer bring up image of pot shard designation Item B 3D model acquired at the Dig Site today by Morgane Anraith 3X magnification in comparison mode to Item A.” The image appeared next to the first one, a slightly smaller shard to be sure.
Item B appears to also be a pot shard of similar origin to Item A, it also has figures etched into it. However on Item B the figures appear to hold a 'platter' of what appear to be seeds. Maybe a planting or harvest festival? The pot itself contained what appeared to be seeds, sent off to be checked by the biologists. There appear to be more of the 'tailless' (this will be my designation for the figures without the additional 'appendage'), on the second shard, mostly the ones holding the platters. Though, looking closer it appears that the 'tailless' ones are smaller; children maybe?
Morgane speaks to the computer directly again, (the computer stops dictation if addressed directly) “computer. Analyze other etched pot shard descriptions, compare if notes state a difference in size of figures without the added appendage.” Morgane gobbles down two more fajitas while she waits for the result and Triton refills her plate. The computer responds, “notes detailing other shards make no note of a size difference between any figures.”
Morgane looks apologetically to Triton when he hands her the plate of food. “Computer in a grid pattern display in groups of 5 starting oldest to newest the other pot shards on my mark sized at 3X magnification.” Triton taps the wall clock denoting she needs to pay attention to the time then heads into his own room. “Computer display first 5 images,” Morgane started seriously examining every pot shard the Dig Site discovered over the years they had been working the site.
Triton comes out of his room a few hours later to check on Morgane, as he was ready to head to his bed and he knew part of the reason the two of them were rooming jointly was to make sure she didn't overwork. Granted he himself had a tendency to do so, but he also knew he worked better when fully rested. He comes into Morgane's workroom, to find that she was in the desk chair by the table slumped over asleep. To avoid messing up what ever she had dictated to the computer, he walked over to the keyboard and told the machine to save the data and file it. He shuts the computer down to it's sleep mode and then turns to Morgane. He walks up to her shoulder and gives it a gentle shake, “come on shorty. Time to get in bed so you can get to work on time tomorrow, so you can keep wowing the site staff.” Morgane half wakes up (kinda), and Triton leads her into her bedroom and lets her fall onto her bed; throwing an extra blanket over her and turning off her lights as he heads back to his rooms.
