The City of Oceana

A Normal Day Part 2

A Normal Day Part 2

May 24, 2020

Morgane wakes up the next morning in bed, not remembering going to bed. She stretches as she gets up, then dresses as she had the day before; for a day of working in dirt. She leaves her bedroom and glances at the wall clock in the workroom, it looked early enough she should be able to catch breakfast in the main dinning room. With a couple of hours before the tram came by to pick her up she could go over her notes from last night.

She went out of her room noting that Triton was still asleep, and probably would be fore an hour or so more. She walked down the hallway till she came to the stairs leading down and made her way to the dinning hall. One of the stints in the course load for learning to cook had you working the Dorm, also the restaurant owners rotated in once a week to prepare dinners for the new adults. Today it seemed Morgane wasn't the only early riser, there was a sprinkling of people in the dinning hall or by the cooks getting food. She walked up to where the cooks were, as breakfast was mostly served in heated dishes eggs were always cooked to order to prevent people from having reactions to possibly cold eggs. Also everyone had different tastes, so this way it accommodated everyone. Morgane preferred just a little bit of meat some fruit and a couple of pieces of bread though a couple of eggs were always welcome at breakfast.

Morgane requested a couple of over medium eggs and went to get some bread and see what kinds of fruit they had out. They had cooked some farmed salmon, and they had a variety of breads out. Though from smell she could determine they all contained acorn flour, she picked up some flat breads that were purely acorn flour, found some day lily flowers that had been chopped up and sprinkled them onto the flat bread. Then added some strips of salmon and a cilantro sauce, then found the table of fruits, she added some slices of melon to her plate and a handful of blueberries. Then she went back to the cooks and had them place her eggs on top of the salmon on her flat breads. She found herself a place to sit then enjoyed her first quiet breakfast. First quiet one because her parents tended to talk a lot during meals.

When she finished eating Morgane picked up a kelp tray and proceeded to make Triton a meal to take to him. She knew he'd want the salmon fillets and the flat breads as well as some of the sauce on the side, she also added a handful of spinach to the tray knowing he loved eating it; while making sure to not let any of the food touch. When he first woke up in the morning Triton liked foods not touching each other, who knows why; maybe one of his siblings put hot peppers in something of his when they were younger.

Morgane walks into her room just as she hears Triton shuffling around his room. She walks into his room through the kitchenette and places his tray on his work bench's only clear spot, the rest was strewn with papers and recently made scrolls; most likely duplicates of whatever he was working on.

She goes back into her workroom and looks over the printout of her dictated notes from the previous night. Looking them over she had noticed that there were smaller versions of the figures in the etchings, always positioned so you couldn't see if they had a 'tail' or not. So maybe this did show that they weren't tails and they were melee weapons? As societaly it's generally not a good idea to arm children unless they were very well trained, so the smaller figures could be children.

Also all of the smaller figures appeared to be carrying something in every etching. Again it seemed in her pot it was probably seeds as that is what it appeared to be carrying. She really should inform the director of her findings, it might be helpful. She looked at the wall clock, still a few hours before the tram would arrive to pick her up; so she decided to walk it.

She pokes her head into Triton's rooms briefly noticing he looked very much awake now and eating. “I'm going to hike to work I need to tell the Director what I discovered,” Morgane said to him. Triton nods, “alright; just remember what Mr. Smith said about your rapier. You need to have the Bokken on as well, if you see that moron avoid him and notify the guard. Hopefully he doesn't know how to lose people in a crowd. I'll see you this evening at practice.” Triton the focuses his attention on the scroll he was reading, Morgane goes and first straps on the rapier making sure to add the leather thong to the pommel denoting it's a safe weapon. She has an idea at that moment that maybe the pot she found was denoting a festival for a good harvest and used the 'youngsters' to represent new life. A little far fetched but also very possible, she'll mention it as an after thought. She attaches the Bokken and carefully puts the papers her notes are on inside her pack then walks over to the kitchenette and finds that there was enough leftovers from their evening meal to make a few flat bread sandwiches and she tossed a few of her dad's cookies that he must have dropped off yesterday in her pack as well. She straps on her pack fills her water bottle and heads out the door ready for a normal day.
