Morgane arrived at the Dig Site and looked around to see if the Director was present as yet or not. She spied him over at the collection table looking over a few clip boards, and she hurried over to him. “Morning Morgane, couldn't wait to come back and work?” Director Gavin asked as she approached the table.
Morgane shook her head, “it's not that; though working here is exciting for me. I think I have made a discovery that no one else has noticed before.” The Director now brings his full attention to Morgane and waves a hand at her waiting for an explanation. Morgane sets her pack down and carefully pulls out her sheaf of papers, “here Director. Look these over and tell me if you think I am right or not?” The Director takes the papers from Morgane and slowly reads them over.
After around ten minutes the Director looks up from the papers and comments, “well my dear; you certainly put us oldsters to shame in one night. That is a detail we should have paid attention to, it also makes it appear more valid that those are melee weapons and not tails. As the children would have them as well if they were tails. Any other insights that you did not include in these papers?” Morgane knew he was asking if she had any opinions that couldn't be validated by facts, she did have one; it just seemed so simple though. “Just one, I think the children are depicted in the scenes with the seeds and food items to denote new life; as they are the only ones holding those items in those etchings.”
The Director nods a minute thinking, “it is possible; people have a tendency in belief to use symbols to show meaning. A child or baby would be a good example of new life, it has been used in other societies over the years. I will make a note of your thoughts on it, maybe you will be correct. Very good job, like I said you youngsters are going to be something special.” Morgane just chuckles and shakes her head at the thought that her age group would be all that different.
After leaving the Director to continue reading over the notes she took in more detail, also noting that the Director went to the site's computer terminal to check himself; she looked over the table to see if anything was sent back yet about her samples. The only thing she saw was a notation that her samples were sent to the science team, Morgane wondered if it would be a good idea to contact Dylan later to see if he knew anything about her samples. As he was the only one of their age group to enter as a scientist, his particular choice was the biological sciences; anything dealing with life was his forte. It is even possible he would be given her seeds to analyze.
She made the mental note to later talk to him and proceeded to go to her work location with of course the detour to drop off her lunch at the refrigeration unit. When she did get to the roped off segment of the Dig Site she worked at she carefully unrolled her tools from their oiled cloth and proceeded to well, dig into the ground.
Morgane didn't dig very far into the sediment layer when she she struck what appeared to be a large box made out of the composite wall material. She thought of it as a 'box' as it was roughly squarish and when tapped lightly it had a semi hollow sound to it. The 'box' was about 2 foot wide by not quite 3 foot in length, the color of what seemed like glass (on the outer portion) was a shade of blue Morgane had no name for. It was also a very vibrant color, more like a shifting pattern of blues rather than a singular color of it. Almost like it was alive.
Morgane looked around to locate the Director or even Yu to discuss this interesting find, she really wanted to open it; she felt it was important to. However, she knew it needed to be opened under the right conditions. She discovered that the Director and Yu were talking over by the storage building, so she waves to catch their eye and when they look up she waves them over to her.
As the Director and Yu approach the puzzled looks on their faces change to curiosity when they see she's holding (from their appearance) a block of unknown material. Yu, before getting much closer to her stops and turns to say something to other workers who start scrambling and then follows the Director towards her. The Director stops at the edge of the ropes and looks over the item in her lap, “so. Found something else I see, what are your impressions of it?”
Morgane slowly picks the 'box', “well first it's heavier than it appears to be. I think it is a box of some kind as it does sound hollow, though it does appear to contain something in it; however as I do not see a way to open it we may have to break it open.” While Morgane speaks one of the other workers runs up with what appears to be a Geiger counter, and Morgane raises an eyebrow at that.” The Director waves a hand, “just a precaution we don't know what these people were using when they existed so we need to be careful. I am sure it is just fine though.” The Director turns the machine on, and oddly it makes zero noise; as if there wasn't even background radiation. Yu nods at the lack of sound, “I am not really surprised. It's as if living down at the bottom of the ocean is shielding us from even the solar radiation, let us take your new find over to the examination table we have contacted the science department and asked them to send someone over to help with opening it. I believe they will send Dylan and an observer, which seeing as how you will be opening it; and we will be observing you seems about right.”
Morgane wasn't too surprised by that statement since the people at the Dig Site have been giving her free reign and from what Triton was working on it seemed that the adults we having their age group take over even though the adults were still capable. A few of the Site workers rushed over to pick up the box for her and walk it to the table and the Director commented, “you might want to eat your lunch now as surface knows when you'll finish with this 'box' today. I will warn the trainers just in case you have to remain behind this evening.” Morgane nodded to both comments and walked over to the storage building to retrieve her lunch and eat it before the science team arrived, at least she knew it would be a minimum of thirty minutes; and that was if they took a tram from the edge of the tunnel.
By the time the science team showed up Morgane had finished her meal and was examining the 'box' more noting how often the color shifted. The science team arrived in one of the few regularly used vehicles that is in service in Oceana, Morgane guess it was due to what ever “containment” they would want to erect around the box.
Dylan exits the vehicle which is identical to the Trams used around the city aside from the color (city Trams were green), and he walked over to her with a big grin. “So the favorite daughter has been making a big name for herself still I see,” says Dylan as a private joke that only her age year knows. Since the discovery of the 'Star of the Sea' people are been treating Morgane's age group differently and most in her age group would jokingly call her “the favorite daughter”. As she was now the daughter of the city and the favored one, it was done purely in jest however; as all of them were treated equally. Well they are now in any effect, when they were still young the mayor (which was and is just a title denoting the speaker for the city)of the city at the time had a daughter named Kyla. She was raised from a young age thinking she was better than the rest in her year group due to the fact that her father was mayor. Kyla seemed to possess absolutely no skills what so ever. The child struggled to even read one language, because she had been told she wouldn't need to learn such a trivial thing.
At the age of five when the rest of their age group knew how to read as much as a surfacer teenager did the child had opened a door in the foundry marked “danger high temperatures do not enter when the light is on”. The light had been on and she was instantly incinerated, the mayor at the time blamed everyone for the death of his child instead of making sure the child understood that you had to listen to what you were told. The girl had thought rules did not apply to her, and Morgane had doubted that even if she could have read the sign that she would have listened to what it said.
That mayor wanted to punish the other children in the age group saying that Morgane and those her age had forced his daughter to open the door. When the other parents had heard that they had come together with the rest of the residents and voted to strip the mayor of his title. Then he and his wife were the two that had decided to move back to the surface, because he thought there was obviously something wrong with everyone who lived in Oceana; especially since his obviously perfect daughter had died. The doctors had warned them that it was possible they would die if they returned to the surface, however like their daughter they thought they knew better.
Morgane shakes her head to remove the memory from her finding it odd that it was so vivid, Dylan shakes his head as well as if having the same issue and then looks at Morgane; “did you just think of Kayla too?” He asked Morgane looking a little confused, Morgane nods her head wondering how they both wound up thinking of Kayla at the same time. Dylan thinks a little and then says, “you should mention it to Triton later. Maybe he can figure out the why of it where as we cannot.”
Dylan the proceeds to set up the portable clean room that was designed for opening archaeological items in the field. It was made from a super thin aluminum that was surprising strong as well as durable, the aluminum was the frame that you set a great many windows into as well as two doors; one on each end. There was also a removable sealant to go around the windows as well as the doors that differed depending on what could be opened inside it. Morgane noticed that Dylan was taking all precautions into account by using the bio hazard seals on everything. Morgane noticed that the scientist who was Dylan's supervisor was Curie and he was talking with the Director, who occasionally looked over at Morgane and nodded his head after.
