Morgane looked around in amazement at the world she suddenly found herself in. The trees looked a lot like those in their forests of the city only much much larger, and the shades were more vibrant; almost as if the trees back home we a mere suggestion of what a true tree should look like. She could tell the forest that she was near was deciduous, mostly (at least near her) oak varieties. There was a single leaf near her foot and it was the size of her forearm. A very large tree indeed.
She did spy a few other varieties through the trees but the only difference she could see from her location was flowers in the canopy not unlike Dogwood tree blooms, she knew about dog woods because the city planners planted some for the song birds that lived within the city. They loved the fruits the trees bore in winter times. The trees were maybe fifty feet from her and she was standing in a clearing next to what appeared to be a vast ocean. Unlike the images she had seen of earth beaches there was not a multitude of feet of sand before the water's edge. Here there was only a small amount of sand maybe a ten foot strip of it, and it was a reddish color that Morgane associated more with clay than a sand color. She did see that there was a type of wild grass growing in the soil between the sand and the tree line, as well as flowers in shades that Morgane had no word for. Then she gave that concept a thought, wait; the colors aren't exactly colors I know what if. Then Morgane looks up.
The local sun was blue in color.
Morgane knew that blue stars were possible, but she had never heard of science seeing a 'healthy' system with one in it. “That is because Morgane human science is not at the level that my people were at.” Morgane hears a melodious voice and turns towards it, an eight foot tall humanoid with cat like ears and from what Morgane could see was a short amount of fur covering it's (Morgane mentally corrects after seeing mammary glands to her)body. She was dressed, in a clothing that covered just her torso starting from the shoulders similar to a bathing suit. Though it did have another piece to the garment that Morgane had no word for, the female's people made something like a skirt but only half of it that covered the backs of her legs to about the knee. It looked very comfortable but not very protecting of the body if someone got into a fight.
The female speaks again, “welcome to the three of you to Chowilawu, which is the name of our world in your lounge. I am one of the Apsaras people, again that word is an earth translation.” Morgane just noticed at that moment that she wasn't alone, that Dylan and Triton were both with her as well. She jokingly says to Triton, “how about this for telepathy?”
The female looks to her with an amused look, “well you're partly right Morgane. It is a type of telepathy as your people would see it, however aside from my presence it's more of a sharing of a memory. Like I did with you and Dylan earlier.” That gave Morgane pause, so it did have a reason for occurring. Triton then spoke up, “you say your people are called Apsaras in Earth tongue. That word means 'from the water's stream' in the language from the people of India. I don't know the word Chowilawu, though I have the feeling I should know it now.” Triton trailed off obviously in annoyance, it was from a language he hadn't learned so that had to be annoying him.
The female looked amused again, “well Triton I leave that to you to figure out. You should know by now that names have meaning, especially in your age group. I brought you into this 'memory' to talk with you at length, talking directly in the mind in this fashion can happen in an instant even though you could pass even years of time within the mental world I am showing you.” Dylan looked shocked to hear that statement, and the female walked closer to him and gently touched his arm. “Do not be concerned, me and my people had your bodies gently lay down while we did this. By the time any of the adults get to any of you, you shall be awake again.”
Triton looks out over the water and then up to the sky in semi longing, he had the same longing all of us had; though we never voiced it to anyone above our age group. We all wanted to see the sky, and to feel the sun shine down upon our skin, oddly enough even though as defensive Morgane thought the outfit the female wore was useless she would love to be wearing it under the sunlight. Triton then looked to the female, “so do you have an Earth equivalent name?” The female shook her head, “no. As names for my people have much deeper meanings than humans can comprehend, there is no word in the myriad of tongues on your world that come close to my name. The names of those of my people generally encompass all of who we are, no single word from Earth say it; and I am afraid a great many people from my world have similar names.”
Morgane thinks for a minute on what Triton said the name of the people meant, then looked out over the water and coming up with an idea. “Can we give you a name that we can use for addressing you, if it is not considered offensive; most humans prefer things to have a name to denote what or who they are talking about or with.” The female turns to Morgane, “why certainly; this is why I was chose to speak with you. I am one of the more amenable of my people and realize that sometimes consessions need to be made to converse with another species. Most of my people would be insulted to be asked that, because again our names encompass all we are.”
Morgane nods to the female's reply and she saw Triton waving at her to continue, knowing that Morgane had something in mind. “Would it be alright for us to call you Aqua when addressing you then?” Morgane hoped the female would be alright with the choice Morgane made since to her it made prefect sense to call this female that. The female laughed in amusement and it sounded very musical to Morgane's ears. “Yes, that would be appropriate of a name to give me for your benefit;” the female Morgane now will call Aqua says very amused by the word.
Aqua then points to one of the large rocks on the water's edge, “since you are in a memory. It is possible for you to change attire and not have it affect you in the waking world, Morgane you will find a change of clothing behind that rock and gentlemen the one opposite has something you can wear as well. However, you might be greatly embarrassed by it.” Morgane hurried over to the rock Aqua indicated and saw there was an outfit similar to what Aqua wore in green and white shades. The one Aqua wore had shade of red and purples in it, she did wonder what clothing the guys would consider embarrassing.
When Morgane was finished changing into the outfit which was extremely comfortable as Morgane had thought and not as difficult to put on as she had thought it would be. While it was similar in design to a bathing suit the top part was not open to the neck. It was solid fabric from the chest to the neck and it kind of had sleeves, more like a suggestion of them to merely cover the armpit and most of the shoulder. When Morgane walked back to where Aqua was she quickly figured out why the guys could be embarrassed. Morgane noted Triton wasn't, however Dylan looked a little awkward.
They were effectively wearing loin cloths, though it appeared there was a suggestion of shorts under them. It did cover and it allowed their skin to feel the sun's rays, which was something all of the children born and raised in the city desired on almost an instinctual level. Morgane did note that like her garment theirs was also in shades of green and white, however the was a subtle difference.
Just then a moon rose over the water, and like the local star it was blue; though it did have greens. Aqua watched the children's eyes as the moon rose, “that is one of our six moons. It had an indigenous life form that was intelligent, and we unfortunately were the vehicle of their downfall. The world which is roughly the size of your planet Mars is similar to Earth, breathable atmosphere and pressure; at least to your parents. Our world is more amenable to you children however, especially over time; as your bodies are still changing based on your current living conditions.”
Aqua pauses in her description as if thinking over something then nodding to herself she continues. “In a short while an event will occur on your world that will change all of the children your age and younger, the change will be an after effect of what was intended; but it will change you all none the less. It will make you more capable of living on a world such as this.” Triton opened his mouth and Aqua immediately speaks over the obvious question he was going to ask. “Please do not ask me to tell you what that event is, just know that something in the future that appears to be bad will have good consequences.”
Triton nods to Aqua's statement she continues with her description of the moon, “the land masses on the moon are smaller than on Earth. There is also still life on it that isn't severely dangerous to human life. As I stated the intelligent life that was there was similar to humans, though you'd associate them more to the canines of your world if they became intelligent and bi pedal.”
Aqua then looks sad and continues, “they all died off trying to fight a war amongst themselves with technology we gave them in order to help a neighboring species. After alienating us they proceeded to fight amongst themselves till they wiped themselves out. That happened five hundred years before this memory we are in was taken and preserved.” Aqua pauses in her telling to look at the moon with a tear falling from one of her eyes, “we didn't know they weren't ready for the knowledge we gave them.”
Dylan who looked as though he had been assembling a puzzle with no image on it asked a question, “can I assume that you can communicate with us due to the item we dug up? Also how long ago in how we figure time was this memory saved?” Aqua turns to look at Dylan with a hint of a smile, “I'll answer your second question first Dylan. This memory was saved five billion of your years ago, it has been waiting that long for someone to connect with.”
The three of the children looked confused and Morgane is the first to loosen her tongue. “If you are from another world, one with a blue star; how is it we are finding remnants of what appears to be a city here? You did say the moon was 'earth like' which means you probably are unable to stay upon it's surface long so Earth would be just as deadly.” Aqua nods her head and answers, “well I can tell you part of the 'how' there. I can not give you a technological explanation however, your species isn't ready for it.” Aqua walks over to the grass and sits on it waving the children to do the same.
“Not long after this memory was saved my people as we were dying off, we constructed a city based on what our people had in the past and placed it on an asteroid in a direction we felt might connect to a species we could form a. You would call it a spiritual bond with.” Triton does a brief mental calculation and speaks, “that would mean your 'city' was the event that gave out planet the core it has depending on the speed it traveled. Or conversely it is was one of the causes of the extinction of the dinosaurs.”
Aqua nods looking upset at the thought of killing another species, in this case a multitude of species. “We wanted to be able to help guide those that could be like we were from having the same outcome as we had. We felt that if we could do at least that it would off set any cost it would have.” Triton nods understanding the viewpoint, Morgane did as well; if a species had made a grievous error and caused the deaths of a whole species of intelligent life that would be worse than killing of multiple species of no intelligent species. Especially if that then now informed species could spread out amongst the stars and continue with that guidance.
Morgane stands up, “is that why we are here? To learn about your past and how to proceed into the future so we don't do what you unintentionally have done?” Aqua nods and then describes the planet. “Chowilawu is a large planet, if it were in your system it would have been a gas giant due to it's size and make up. However due to our, as you would call it; blue giant star. We have a livable world, one that is mostly ocean; like that moon is. However, while the moon has large land masses this world only has islands, in multiple island chains. The one we are on contains what is left of our species in one small village. It is time I showed you that village, come along and we can walk there.”
Aqua then stands lightly brushing any dirt that might have gotten onto her half skirt. She then leads them to a well worn pathway that the three of them had not seen before due to the way the tree line formed. Aqua notices their surprise, “yes I am aware the three of you are good at noticing details. This however at this time you would not have seen as our people tend to build in harmony with nature so that everything we build becomes a part of the world itself..”
