After resting for a few more days I was feeling a lot better. They had to leave soon, and I was still undecided. We’ve all gotten a lot closer over the last couple of days. I really like them but a part of me is still scared. Besides, I have to go search for Fenir, so if they are planning to leave the forest, I definitely can’t go with them. But it’s at least a week of walking to get out of the forest from where we are now. Maybe I could stay with them until then…
“So, have you decided?” Katelyn asked. “I…give me a little more time.” “Okay, but we’re leaving early tomorrow so you’ll have to tell us tonight.” “That’s fine thank you.” Out of the corner of my eye I saw Semion walking towards us. “Care to join us on a little hunting trip?” he asked. “Sure, I was tired of sitting and doing nothing anyways.”
“Ukia and Katelyn, you two stay here and guard the camp, we’ll be back soon,” Dayxo said. I walked over to where he was standing and watched as Raok and Semion gathered some things. “Do you have a weapon or anything you can fight with?” he asked. I shook my head, “I lost all of my belongings while fleeing.” Well Fenir has a lot of my items, but I did lose some, so it’s not completely a lie I guess. “Do you want to borrow something?” “If you have a spare sword that would be nice.”
And that’s how I ended up here, in the middle of the forest, surrounded by wild beasts. Normally they wouldn’t even dare to come close to me, but they probably sensed I was currently pretty weak. “Shit, we’re surrounded,” I heard someone mutter. “Guys get in formation we have to protect each other’s backs,” Dayxo shouted. We all stood back to back and looked into the bushes around us.
Glowing eyes were staring back. Suddenly one of the beasts jumped at Semion, who quickly smacked it on the head with his shield. I looked to my left and saw Raok standing frozen to the ground. “Raok! Get it together,” Dayxo screamed. As if coming out of a trance his head snapped back up and he breathed shakily. “You good?” Dayxo asked. “…Yea.” I looked back at the bushes.
How will I fight them. I can’t do what I’d normally do, since I can’t have the rest notice something. Neither can I do nothing since I’m likely to get killed then. Normally it’s not to hard to control the amount of skill and power I use, but I’m still not completely healed. I don’t know what’ll happen so I don’t really want to take the risk. What else can I do?
More and more beasts slowly crept out from the bushes. I’ll just have to try and hope for the best. Luckily I have a sword I’m not accustomed to so I won’t be as skilful anyway. “Get ready!” Dayxo yelled. I stared into the eyes of the four beasts in front of me. They look pretty weak to me, but I guess for them these would seem a lot more powerful.
With a loud snarl the beasts jumped forward. I pretended to struggle with dodging their attacks, while secretly eyeing how the others were doing. Dayxo was fighting 2 big bear like beasts at the same time, Raok was evading the attacks of the beasts around him and occasionally stabbed at them with his dagger and Semion was letting the beasts hit his shield and proceeded to throw them against other beasts.
None of them were paying attention to me so I decided to end things quickly. I ran to the beasts in front of me and in a swift motion cut of their heads. They were indeed pretty weak. I should probably have at least one or two injuries or it would be really suspicious. After defeating them I decided to go help Raok, since he seemed to be struggling with the amount of opponents. I ran to him and cut down one of the beasts.
After the battle was over we gathered in the middle of the clearing. “Is everyone okay?” Dayxo asked. I nodded. “Why did so many of then suddenly show up? This has never happened before,” Semion said. “Indeed it’s very strange.” Then Semion looked at me. “But what a surprise lad. Who would’ve thought you’d be on the same level as us.” I smiled slightly at him, if only he knew. “Hmmp, don’t think I’ll thank you for killing my opponents, I could’ve handled them myself,” Raok snarled. He stood up and walked away. “Don’t mind him he’s always been like that, you’ll get used to it.” Yea…I might, if I were to stay.
