It was a nice day at the base, though despite being springtime, it was still incredibly cold, especially since it had rained the day before.
Patryk and Yuu were headed towards to game room Tobi and the others used when they were hanging out, the boys were supposed to do their homework together before they could do video games. Paul was with them to make sure they were actually doing their homework. Normally Penny or A.K. and his friends would be helping them, but they both had "other things" to do. Translation, it was their days off and they had better things to do than to wrangle sone hyper teenagers who refused to listen.
"-I tell you, attending meetings doesn't get easier..." Patryk commented as they continued talking during their walk. "I know what you mean," Yuu agreed with the pole,"I never thought joining the army would involve being apart of so many meetings and doing mountains of paperwork."
Yuu wanted to drop off snacks for the boys, and at least attempt to be of some help. Paul wasn't stupid and incapable of helping, but it still stands he was a bit of an idiot nonetheless, so Patryk was going there to relieve the dutchman of the headache that is helping unruly teens with school work.
"And it's still somehow easier than babysitting four teenagers." The tall brunet let out a long sigh as the blond chuckled, "I disagree, I think their wonderful kids." He said smiling fondly.
Yuu and Yanov had never had time for an official wedding, let alone adopting a child, especially since Red Leader put them incharge of taking care of Tobi. So it was no surprise the finnish man could make that comment.
"That's easy for you to say.... Tobi actually listens to you..."
Upon seeing the doorway, the Finnish man sped up slightly and turned inside to greet the boys. "Hey, I brought snacks, bo- oh... oh jeebus..." blond sighed his smile dropping as he lightly face palmed.
Patryk raised a brow not connecting the dots yet till he looked into the room, and he joined his companion in a sigh before rubbing his temple, "Not again Paul...." he sighed.
In the game room, the dutchman was sitting on the ground hogged tied with his own boots laces. And none of the teens anywhere to be seen. Again.
For the 3rd time that month.
And the month had just started.
"Paul.... your a trained soldier nearing your 50s... how do 4 teenagers keep doing this to you...?" The pole asked feeling a headache coming on.
The Dutch didn't have an answer, he just asked to be untied as Yuu took out his holo-cell to call it in.
"Looks like another busy day," the blond sighed.
●Somewhere else in the base~●
The four teens were searching around in the "invention vault" which was more like an evidence locker at the police station, so it hadn't taken long for Maxx to pick the lock to it. Yea the security for possibly dangerous and expensive to build inventions wasn't great and apparently kept being overlooked in Red Leader's meetings, but the teens weren't complaining.
Made getting the heck outta that boring game room and off the base a hell of alot easier for them.
The teens had spread out to check different sections of the vault. Unlike the evidence locker, the vault was completely disorganized. There were boxes on the floor, and devices haphazardly throw on shelves and hanging out of the boxes. It always took them awhile to try and find where the portal guns were thrown. At least one of them anyways.
Tobi shouted to his friends, "Any luck you guys?" the half norwegian asked, pushing aside one of the boxes he looked through.
"No luck on my end," Theo said carefully climbing down from the latter he was using to check the top shelves before shoving a Stun Bolt gun in his hoodie pocket, because why not? Never know when you'll need to stun someone. Especially in 70% of Neo London.
Maxx shouted the same from his end as he dusted himself off after standing up, but again, things were just hanging off the shelves, so the ginner hit his head on something when he moved again, "Ow! Son of A-"
Just as Tobi was about to say the same thing a loud alarm when off on the intercoms in the base, letting out an alert that Tobi was trying to sneak out again. They knew it was their alarm because it was the acoustic setting for MCRs Planetary Go put on max volume. The three teens looked at each other with a "We are screwed" look, seeing as a few soldiers would find them pretty quickly.
"Found One!" Ethan shouted triumphantly as the pudgy boy jumped down, before his kitten Nova leaped onto his shoulder from the shelf. Acting quickly the teens went over to him as he started the gun up and setted the range dial before he quickly opened up a portal as they heard the soldiers approaching.
When the makeshift warp gate opened, a huge glowing ring formed with green electricity sparking around it like sparklers and clearly showed the other side like a window.
Just as the soldiers slammed open the door to the weapons volt, the four jumped through quickly before they could get caught. Jumping into the portal felt like jumping through a sheet of tissue paper made of electricity, it left them feeling a slight tingle which they were all to familiar with. Acting quick, Ethan fired another shot at the portal, making it glow white before it closed and disappeared into a handful of sparks.
The teens were pretty use to using the guns to help them sneak out of the base every so often, so after naking a few more jumps, while avoiding being grabbed, it didn't take them very long to be on the other side of the bases security gates.
It would be alot easier if they could make it to where their headed in one go thought.
The portal guns were still in the prototype stage however, so it couldn't take them further than 7-10 miles without worrying about it breaking or overheating. Or outright exploding all together.
This happened a few times during testing, and one time it even exploded in a soldiers hands, leaving them completely mangled. Luckily, he was built a new pair of hands so he could keep working after a trip to the E.R. He was also transferred to a call center due to work realated trauma.
With that kinda insight you would think a couple of teenagers would think twice before using something that could potentially kill them. But nope. Common sense, reasoning and safety went out the window when homework and boredom were part of the equation.
And so another misadventure began for the group of friends.
------------
I actually had to cut this chapter in half bc of how long it was getting so hopefully there will be a part two.
