He couldn't see anymore.
His visor had been broken.
Everything happened so fast, bullets were flying and everyone was trying to find cover and before he knew it-
He and a few others had gone out for supplies, and Susan had been fine when he left. She had told him to be safe as she sat in their room stroking her swollen stomach.
He remembered the look on her face, and the worry in her voice.
But he had to go out.
Because the baby was due soon. They needed to be prepared. It should have been simple, in and out quickly, and he'd be there by her side when he got back.
He was going to be there for the birth so he could hold her hand.
But that hadn't happened.
Because they had been seen by a few Red Army drones, now there were a few injuries and they had dropped most of the supplies.
On top of that, Tom had missed the birth of his son.
He couldn't see his son's face, but Tom couldn't hold back the tears when he felt the weight of the baby being placed in his arms.
He could hear Theo's soft breathing as he slept peacefully ignorant of what had occured and what was going on around him.
Theo, his baby boy, Susan his wife, and his reason to keep living through the hell his life had become.
Tom gave a sad smile.
"Sorry kiddo...."
"You were born in a fucked up world...."
