Four - Part 2
Not away. He came, and reclined just to my right, barely not touching me. My heart was pumping so fucking hard, I didn't believe what was happening. He was serious, and since the moon was also to my right I would use it as an excuse if he caught me looking at him.
A few times I looked down and my glasses almost slipped, so I took them off and started running my hands through my hair, and looking at him from time to time. I don't think he looked at me much, but why else would he come to my side when the bridge allowed you to go to either, and my heart was still going crazy quick. Every so often people would come around and we'd both look, and I decided to close the distance. First I did a small side step towards him, and turned to face ‘the moon'. I think he did the same, but if he did it wasn't much. But we were closer than ever, and closer than I'd ever been to another boy, let alone one that came to me.
None of us was starting a conversation, so I decided it'd be me. But that wasn't easy, since I assumed he was Brazilian, I had to rummage in my head to find how to say ‘beautiful night' in Portuguese, and since South American Spanish is really similar, it wasn't hard. All I wanted to say was “Bella Noite", beautiful night. These wouldn't come out, I tried, I really tried, but when I opened my mouth I'd just shut it again. I couldn't speak Portuguese properly, and if I mispronounced it I'd be properly embarrassed. It seemed that I took extremely long to do it, and he left the way he came.
I stood there motionless for about a minute, then began kicking at the floor, cursing at the air and myself, for being such an idiot, for losing my only opportunity to do anything. But then I thought I either could let him go thinking I wasn't interested, or I could do what I've never done before: go after him. So I did.
Not by the same way: he went through the left behind the main stage, and I took the right. Hasted my steps a bit to make sure he was indeed going there, and when I saw him I regulated my pace. We both crossed the entire deck and met at the bar, where a drunkard was shooting compliments to a waiter with long hair. Eventually, the drunkard went to ask for a drink and got there before either of us did. When he got his order, the waiter went to the back and left us both alone.
Neither talked, but I made my way from behind him to his left, and kept telling myself to let him order first should I be the one that was asked first. Luckily I wasn't, and he ordered a regular coke. I asked for a water and went to see where he sat. It was on the last table in front of the bar to the right, and I sat on a couch with no pillows, crossed my legs and faced him as best as I could. I saw him staring my way several times, and after drinking half my water I walked towards him and sat one table before his'. I tried to catch him looking at me, but only saw him looking my way. Here was my opportunity.
He had finished his coke and I my water, so I went up to the now waitress, and asked for 2 cokes, one regular and one zero. She gave them to me, and I looked and he was still there. So I made myself big as when I enter the Golden Sands, and walked his way.
I offered him the regular coke, he looked up at me with his beautiful eyes, and he took it. I moved to his left and pointed to the seat next to him to ask if I could sit. He nodded, and we sat together, said our silent cheers to each other, and drank. Neither spoke for as long as we sat there, but there was a group of more drunkards to our left singing with a loudspeaker, so they basically were our entertainment. After a while, I noticed he was tapping his foot quickly against the ground, so I assumed it was time I left. I uncrossed my legs, stood up, picked up my coke can and went to throw it away.
The bin had a glass pane behind it, which I used to see if he came. He has remained sitting at his table, and I kept going to the Bridge of Sighs by the way he had used. It was hard to not look back, but I managed. I went to the Bridge, and waited. Waited as long as I could keep myself awake, but he never came my way. I waited, and waited, but had to use the bathroom. And if he came then, I would not know, but all I know is that tonight, after dinner, I'll be up there. Waiting.
