Inside light palace, Zhang Lin sat in the pavilion grazing somewhere as if he had lost his soul.

Zhang Lin was very angry about the fact that he got top by a stranger a few days ago. He couldn't help, but recalled Yang Mi's word,

Is this really my retribution for rejecting her?

Zhang Lin was feeling somewhat relieved that ever since that night when he got top by that stranger, so far he had yet to come across that person as if that person was just an illusion.

With that thought, Zhang Lin got off the bed and went to pick that golden robe that he had tossed it on the floor earlier as if it was some sort of garbage.

The color yellow has always been Zhang Lin's least favorite color, thus he thinks that most people would also dislike it too since the color yellow gives out a bright color. Beside he had no idea that the color yellow would represent the royals in the era he is currently in, thus for the first time when he wore the golden robe he has never really paid any attention to the robe, especially the phoenix pattern on the robe.

If only Zhang Lin knew that the golden robe that he had tossed it on the floor as if it was some sort of garbage, but to the concubines and consorts, they all are dying to wear that empress golden robe, he would definitely be surprise to the point of vomiting a mouthful of blood.

In a blink of an eye, the days went by quickly. The empress dowager's birthday has arrived.

A grand banquet was held in the grand hall for the empress dowager. Only the imperial family along with the consorts and concubines were invited to the banquet.

All of the consorts and concubines arrived early and were already seated in the banquet waiting for the emperor and empress dowager to arrive with the exception of a certain male concubine.

All of the consorts and concubines were not in their formal robe but rather they had some fancy colorful robe on. Some even wore these robes that would expose their skin particularly the stomach to make them look sexy in front of the emperor. They had all dressed in the robe that they will be performing their talents in front of the emperor and empress dowager.

Soon the eunuch's voice can be heard, "The emperor has arrived. The empress dowager has arrived."

Hearing the eunuch's announcement of the emperor and empress dowager's arrival makes all of the consorts and concubines beamed. They all bowed in unison and greeted both the emperor and empress dowager.

"Rise." The emperor spoke while scanning the room in search for a certain figure, but unexpectedly he didn't find the figure and somewhat became angry that the person really had the guts for not showing up.

The empress dowager sat near the dragon throne, where the emperor was and below the empress dowager was the imperial noble consort, following along was the noble consorts, consorts, and concubines. They all sat in according to their ranks.

Each person sat on the cushion on the floor with a table for each person.

On the table, there were several food dishes along with fruits and teas.

In light palace, Zhang Lin has just woken up. He couldn't sleep at all yesterday and ended up oversleeping.

Opening the door and preparing to go eat his breakfast, Zhang Lin paused seeing the maid, Ju was doing some cleaning and quickly called out to her, "Ju."

Hearing the familiar voice calling her, Ju couldn't help but was surprised.

Eh? Why is her lady still here? Shouldn't she be at the empress dowager's birthday banquet?

"Concubine Lin, why are you still here? Shouldn't you be at the empress dowager's birthday banquet?" The maid asked, forgotten to greet her lady.

"What? The banquet is held in the morning?"

"Yes."

"Then why didn't you wake me up?"

"That... I came early and called you many times, but you didn't answer, so I thought you have gone to the banquet already."

"What? No..no..I was still sleeping. I didn't know that the banquet was held in the morning. I thought it would be held at night. Aiya...whatever....I will go change now and head to the banquet."

With that Zhang Lin quickly went inside his room. Instead of changing his robe he just put on that golden robe on top of the robe that he wore in the morning and headed out with a veil covering half of his face.

Zhang Lin was planning to put on some powder that those lady in this era use, and draw his face to make him look ugly, but he somehow had overslept and is running short on time, hence he chooses to wear a veil to cover his face in hope to make people think that he is ugly which is why he is covering his face and doesn't dare to show his face and make them feel disgust with him and if anyone asks him about the veil, he would just tell them that he has chickenpox.

Wait...but those people won't understand what chickenpox is...oh well whatever.

The maid was shocked to see her lady with the golden phoenix robe that was designated for the empress, but before she could react to it Zhang Lin had already ordered her.

"Hurry....Ju take me to the place where the banquet was held."

With no choice, Ju led Zhang Lin to the banquet. When they were about to reach the place, Ju told her lady that the maids were prohibited from entering the banquet, thus her lady had to go alone.

Zhang Lin nods and walks forward alone. Walking to the big door, he was about to tell the imperial guards that he was here for the empress dowager's birthday banquet when the imperial guards suddenly knelt down to greet him and open the door for him.

Although they were guards, unlike ordinary guards they were the imperial guards, therefore they didn't really have to kneel down on their knees to greet the concubines when they could just bow, but seeing Zhang Lin wearing the golden phoenix robe, they all knew what it meant.

The imperial guards knew that the emperor has yet to bestow the empress title to any of the concubines or consorts, but they all knew that with the emperor's ability no one can just wear, or steal the golden phoenix robe if not because the emperor let them.

Inside the grand hall, the banquet has already started a while ago.

The imperial consort along with the noble consorts have just finished displaying their individual dance for the emperor and empress dowager.

Soon it would be the concubines turn to display their talents.

One of the concubines was about to stand up and ready to perform a dance for the emperor and empress dowager when suddenly the door to the grand hall was open.

With the exception of the emperor and empress dowager, everyone there all have their eyes widen at the incoming figure.
