Since apparently transmuters can only change their body parts into other materials and shapes, and that’s what everyone here thinks I am, if I start a commotion by using my miracle to cut something at a distance I should be able to slip out while everyone tries to figure out what’s going on. The nurses have said I’m fine now, so I'm guessing their going to unchain me from the bed to move me to the courthouse prison soon. That’s when I’ll try and strike. Since I’m considered a low level criminal there hopefully won't be too many eyes watching me either.
To make sure I don’t pass out after doing a controlled cut, I’m just going to try and make as weak of a cut as I can, and hope the adrenaline of trying to sneak out keeps me going. The old man was released about an hour ago, he must be planning his revenge right now. Maybe he’s waiting at the court house prison for me.
I have to make sure I keep my hands low so no one sees one of them turn black.
A nurse comes into the room.
“Alright your being given a clean bill of health. For how deep the cut on your back was your recovered astonishingly fast. Most other miracle users would be here for at least another day. Your going to be escorted to the prison now.”
Two soldiers come in. One starts to remove the chain on my arm, the other stands a foot away watching my movements.
“Listen to what we have to say constantly. Move anywhere we didn’t say to move to and we’ll cut you down on the spot. Sergeant has given us that authority.”
…This might not be as easy as I thought. But I don't have any other choice.
“Yes sir, could I please put my shoes on?”
“Fast”
This is my chance. Their just standing there watching me from the other side of the bed, my hands are going to be down low next to my shoes. I need to focus, small cut on the wall, wait for everyone to panic, run. Small cut on the wall, wait for everyone to panic, run. Small cut on the wall…
My hand goes black, I focus on the wall…breath, small cut on the wall, I see a line forming down low on the opposite wall, low enough that no one should be staring at it. Wait, the line is getting bigger, NO its starting to touch a bed next it. There’s someone on that bed, I need to cancel it now, but how?!?! How do I stop it, I can feel it happening, its about to cut!
Before I can do anything the line cuts, and a few inch thick gash appears on the wall. The bed next to it collapses, and I see blood fly everywhere . Everyone starts yelling, the soldiers, nurses, other patients. What did I do.
I see blackness.
“Yes, good job, even better than we planned. Now run you fool”
Back in the real world, I hesitate. Did I just kill someone… Both the soldiers are staring at the wall now, they look confused. I’m guessing no patient in this room was supposed to have a miracle that can do that. I need to run now, if I don’t the old man will bury me alive. Its not my fault anyways, it was an accident out of my control. RUN
I grab my shoes and sprint for the door, no time to put them on.
“HEY YOU, STOP”
That came from the room, the soldiers must of seen me sprinting.
I see stairs leading down, no wait I see a window, I’ll just jump out of that. I think I’m just on the second floor, I should be able to survive I’m hardier that most people that’s what the nurse said. Worst case I’ll revive and keep running. I’m sure I can afford to die at least a few more times before I get stuck in there.
I run towards the window and launch myself through. The glass cuts me all over, but I feel myself falling, I close my eyes bracing for the impact.
I stop moving, I didn’t feel anything. I open my eyes and see that I’m a few feet off the ground. Is this one of my powers? Did the dark lady save me?
“And what exactly was your plan, jump out the window and die? Death over prison I guess some people would make that choice”
I look up and see Sargent Williams at the window I just burst through. His hand is stretched out towards me.
I see darkness.
“Careful, he’s a weight changer, and a very strong one at that. He’s made you lighter than air, your floating! I didn’t think anyone that strong would be in a dingy hospital like this, someone like him should of been busy on the front lines, not looking over petty crimes in a small city. I didn’t plan for this…. Listen, attack him now. He doesn’t know what your power is, he thinks you’re a transmuter, someone who needs to be close to do damage. He’s won't be expecting a ranged attack, he’ll lose focus and drop you, then run for your life”
I don’t have to time to think it over. My fist turns black, I see Sargent Williams eyes narrow, his stance changes. I start drawing a line, I’m trying my best to aim for him. My line starts to draw mostly across his outstretched arm, a little on his shoulder too. He immediatly jumps back out of the window sill, out of my line of site. My line cuts nothing but air. I start dropping again, I guess he lost his focus. He was only lifting me a few feet of the ground so the fall doesn't hurt much. I start sprinting, I'm not thinking of where to go but I'm heading towords a park in front of me.
The lady brings me into the darkness. “Run into any shadow close to you”
“What???”
“Any shadow close to you, you'll be safe, for a little bit.”
I see the shadow of a lamppost right next to me. But does the size of the shadow matter? I don’t have time to ask, I step into the shadow. I feel myself getting suck in.
