Out in woods, somewhere between here and there the night was warm and quiet. Nobody could have guessed how there was a car accident when there wasn’t one single car on the road. Yet the car slipped and crashed against a tree, leaving it damaged enough to not be useful anymore. The driver jumped out of the car. She was fine but the accident had broken the car's windows; all her belongings scattered everywhere. While searching for her phone she listened to some music. But that was plain crazy; she was in the middle of nowhere with no houses or whatsoever in miles. Could they have been camping? But why here out of all places?
She moved slowly, flashlight in hand, following the music to a clearing in the woods. What transpired there was a scene right out of a fairy tale. Dozens of couples dressed in the most luxurious outfits were dancing around the fire. The moonlight and her shadows gave them an aura of mystery and romance that made her heart flutter. She must have done something noisy because one of the dancers noticed her and winked at her. She blushed.
“I’m Eric. What’s your name?” He mouthed quietly as trying to not bring more attention over her.
“Hannah,” she answered just as quietly as him.
“Nice to meet you Hannah. Would you like to dance?”
Hannah blushed again but before she could answer another dancer noticed her.
“What the fuck?!” She screamed. “Who the hell are you? Can’t you see we are busy here?”
“Yeah,” Cheered dozens of voices “This is a private party. Get out of here.”
‘Don’t listen to them Hannah. Please save me from them.” Eric pleaded.
“Shut up Eric!” “Idiot!” and “Go to Hell.”Were the angry responses from the other dancers.
“And you! You leave now!” Ordered the first dancer. “Leave while you can.”
“Hannah please, don’t abandon me. You must have faith, only you can save me.”
The screams and the bullying continued while Eric called out to Hannah. She couldn’t resist it. His sad puppy eyes, his trembling voice, the mistreatment from the others, she had to do something. She ran to Eric and braced him pulling him away from his female companion and the circle.
“NO!” Everyone screamed at the same time.
But it was too late, Eric was out. For a moment everything was perfect; they were kissing and laughing. Eric hugged her while thanking her for freeing him. But that happiness only lasted for so long. Eric pushed Hannah inside the circle and ran.
“So long losers!” He screamed from far away “I'd rather die than live another night with you.”
As Eric pronounced his last words time catch up with him; aging in seconds until there was nothing left of him but dust and bones.
Hannah on the other hand was very much alive and dancing. Her clothes transformed to match the rest of the dancers; her body moving against her will.
“Wh—What happened?” She asked the man she was dancing with.
“This is what happens when one of us gets out.” He explained. “For one to get out one must get in, those are the rules.”
“Who created those rules? How do we stop it?”
“We don’t know.”
“What do we do then?”
“We dance, and we pray no more innocent people get tricked.”
And so they danced through the night.
