*Next Morning*
Mrs. Bean is folding the laundry in the living room. "Johnny, We need more laundry detergent!" Mrs. Bean chirps, Mr. Bean nods. "Okay honey, I'll go get more!" He says, grabbing his keys and walking out the door.
Ruby walks downstairs with her backpack on and her ring on her hand. She walks cautiously, not wanting to disturb her mother. 'I wonder if I should ask to go? Nevermind, she'll say no,' Ruby thought. Her mom sees her and Ruby turns to run up the stairs but her mom catches her, "Ruby! Stop! Come back down here!" Ruby had no choice, she stopped. "Ruby, I know you want something. What is it?" Her mother asks.
Ruby didn't have the guts to look her mother in her eyes. She kept fidgeting with the ring. Finally, she opened her mouth, "Mom can I go to Paige's house? I cleaned my room and I did all my chores!" She said it so quickly she didn't even know what came out her mouth. Her mom smiled at her while still folding the laundry and said. "Ruby, you could've just asked, what were you scared of?" Ruby looked so shocked. ‘Who is this person and what has she done with my mother?’ She thought.
"What is wrong Ruby? If you're sick then you can't go." Her mother said as she placed her hand on her forehead. "Mom I'm fine I'll go, I'll come back in time for dinner." She said as she headed for the door. She opened the door still thinking. "Maybe my wish did come true." She thought aloud. As she walked to Paige's house, she thought back to the night before when she was in her room.
*Flashback*
While holding her ring she thought aloud. "I wish my parents could just be happy." The ring glowed and a bright green and her strangely shaped birthmark turned from a 6 to a 5. Ruby opened her eyes and wiped her eyes from all the crying. She saw the ring glow and was so frightened she threw the ring down.
She looked at it in fear, confusion, and a little excitement. She went and grabbed the ring and thought to herself. 'I need to tell Paige about this tomorrow! Maybe she'll know something about it. She's a nerd for magic and legends.'
*End of Flashback*
Ruby knocked and Ms.Apple opened the door "Hey Ruby! I didn't expect you." Ms. Apple gestured for Ruby to come in and Ruby went through the door. "Paige! Ruby’s here get your ass up!" She turned and smiled at Ruby. "She'll come down in a sec, she's still asleep." Ms. Apple sighs.
She turned and saw Paige coming down the stairs, still stretching. "Oh, Ruby! What are you doing here?" She asked. "I wanted to show you something," Ruby said as she got up and went up the stairs waving Paige to follow.
"Paige!" Her mom yelled. "Yeah!" Paige yelled back. "I'll be out till afternoon, don't break anything," Her mom said sternly as she closed the door, not waiting for an answer. Paige rolls her eyes and continues upstairs.
*In Paige's room*
"So what is it you wanted to show me that is so important you had to wake me up?" Paige groans. Ruby pulled out her ring from her pocket. "Isn't that your grandma's ring?" Paige asked confused. "Yeah, I actually have a magical ring!"
"Yesterday after I had to go back home, I ran to my room holding the ring and I made a wish. When I did, it glowed very brightly and my birthmark turned from a 6 to a 5. Guess what?! It came true this morning! My mom let me come to your house and she actually cared for me by asking me if I was sick!"
Paige looked at Ruby still confused and took the ring from Ruby and inspected it. She then asked. " What was the wish?" Ruby answered, " I wished my parents could be happy!" Paige tried to shrug off the idea of Ruby actually having a magical ring. "It could've been a good day for her you know," Paige said, trying to convince Ruby that it's not what she thinks.
"I think I know why my grandma gave this ring to me Paige..."
