"Look look, there he is!" I whispered to Jay as we saw, from our hiding spot in a nearby building, Dru come out of his apartment with his phone in his hands. "He looks worried enough. Guess he got the message from Amit."
"He's approaching Jatin's door," Jay observed. "This should be interesting."
We watched Dru and Mr. Malhotra argue for the next five minutes, after which Dru dialled some number on his phone and sat down on the stairs, to argue some more. When he was done, he stood up and went upstairs.
"Oops, he's going upstairs," I said. "We've lost visual, tree's blocking our sight. We gotta wait for him to return."
"Why is he going upstairs?" Jay asked. "There's nothing upstairs except my apartment, and then the roof another staircase up."
"I think he has a jetpack hidden somewhere on the roof," I smirked.
"Heh, that'd make him too cool to arrest."
Five minutes later, Dru returned with a piece of paper in his hand. He was talking to someone on the phone again.
"Was that paper always in his hand?" I frowned.
"I uh, I think so," Jay said. "Let's also search the roof later, just to be safe."
"Agreed."
Ten minutes of phone-calling at least three different people later, a black sedan arrived to pick Dru up, and Mr. Malhotra went back inside his place.
"Okay we're gonna go after Dru," I said, approaching the staircase. "He must not know he's being followed."
I and Jay followed Dru's black car to the bank, on foot, keeping our distance and trying not to draw any unwanted attention. When Dru reached the bank, he got out of his car, looked around, texted someone on his phone and got back in.
"Hey," Jay said, "You think he's going to the impound to collect the SUV?"
"Hopefully, yes."
Dru started driving towards the main road. "Fard, what're you doing?" Jay asked. "Hurry up, he's getting away!"
"No. We stay here. If he comes back here with the SUV, we know for certain the bank's in danger."
"Ohhh, that's smart. But wait, what if he has some new plan or something? What if by now he somehow knows we're onto him?"
"Whatever it is, that man is going to prison."
About fifteen minutes later, I saw Dru's black car approaching the bank, with a green SUV right behind it. Dru parked the green SUV near the bank and left it there, before getting in the black car and driving away.
"The SUV is green now? It's supposed to be grey, why is it green now?" Jay asked. "Do you think it's the same vehicle?"
"It is the same model, but no. I don't think it's the same car. And oh look, this one's actually got license plates."
"MH-02 AX 9082."
"Let me note that down," I quickly wrote down the number on my notepad. "Okay let's go."
"Where are we going?"
"They're gonna hit the bank, I'm sure of it now. We're going to the police station, I'll speak with my C.O. and get a search warrant for Dru the Azerbaijani guinea pig."
"Um he's not really from Azerbaijan, I hope you realise that."
"I know, I just think it'd be really cool when I tell people that my first arrest as a detective was a bank robber called Dru the Azerbaijani guinea pig."
