The sound of the alarm awoke Seth from his sleep. He sat up and felt a stray tear fall down his face. He wiped it away thinking nothing of it. He rolled out of bed scratching his head as he stood up. He stumbled his way to the bathroom, relieving himself and then picking up a toothbrush. After applying toothpaste and begun brushing his teeth. After spitting out the paste and rinsing his mouth. Seth looked up at his reflections in the mirror. He was no longer seventeen anymore. Twenty years had passed since that day. He was now thirty seven years old. He wiped his face that the tear had come down. It had been so long since he last dreamed of his first love. Of course, he never saw that teen again after the break up. Thinking of the past was the last thing that he needed to think about. Seth made his way out of the bathroom and began to get dressed. He stumbled around his messy apartment looking for clean clothes that were just tossed to the side. He didn’t have enough time to be taking care of house choirs, and if they were done, it was always half fast. Finding a black pair of pants that didn’t look too wrinkled and a white shirt that smelt like it was clean was his final choice. He put on the clothes along with his socks and shoes. The man grabbed a long white coat putting it on. He reached for a briefcase and keys then soon made his way out of the apartment locking it behind him.

“Dr. Rice. I hope you had a good night last night.” A nurse spoke up when she saw Seth walk in the room. Seth looked at the young woman that was standing on the other side of the desk. She was short with brown eyes and hair. Her hair was up in a bun. She was one of the many nurses that were slim. “Yeah, I heard you had some issues with some drunk last night.” Another joined the conversation. She had short blonde hair and wore glasses. She was a bit thinker than the other nurse that had spoken to him.

“Don’t worry about it. I’m used to those types of people.” Seth spoke out to calm the girls.

“I just wish that drunk people could learn not to fight especially in bars where there is glass around.” A nurse huffed. Seth could only chuckle to himself.

“Dr. Rice. You have a patent.” Another nurse popped her head in.

“I’ll be right there.” He turned to the nurses and spoke out. “Ladies, work calls.”

“Oh don’t, just go.” The girls giggled as they watch Seth leave. Once he was out of ear shot, one of the girls spoke up.

“Dr. Rice is such a nice person.”

“I agree.” The nurse with blonde hair replied.

“I can’t believe what he’s going through, and he can still smile.” “Did you notice, he’s still wearing the ring on his left hand?” “Yeah I did.” The burnet answered.

“I really hope everything works out.” Both women looked at the direction Seth left earlier.

Seth walked into one of the rooms that help a patient. He took in a deep breath and walked into the room.

“So how are you doing today?” Seth questioned the older gentleman.

“What do you mean?” The old man yelled out. “Can’t you see this cut on my arm?” Seth looked down and saw a small scratch. A little bit of blood was coming out of the wound. “Sir, you came to the ER over that tiny cut?” Seth questioned.

“What do you mean small? This cut was gushing out blood that I thought I would die.” The old man yelled out.

“Do you feel like you’re going to die now?” Seth questioned.

“Of course I do. What kind of question is that? Now are you going to fix or do I have to call one of you cute nurses to come and take care of it.” The man started to drool from his mouth. Seth sighed. He walked over to a table and pulled out a band aid. He placed it on the man’s injury. “There. You are all done.” Seth smiled at the man.

“What! I don’t get any more time with those nurses?” The old man smirked. Seth sighed.

“If you are coming to this ER every time you get a cut will be bad for not only you, but us as well.” “But I was injured.” The old man yelled out. Seth turned away from the man and headed out the room saying,

“You only came to ogle the nurses. You don’t have to call a doctor to take care of you if that is the case.” Seth closed the door behind him. He took in a sigh. That old man had been coming here almost every day for something.

“I’m sorry Doctor.” Seth looked over to see a nurse standing next to him. “I didn’t know what to do. He said he wanted a nurse to take care of him, and I know that man has a reputation of being a pervert.” Seth only smiled at the nurse.

“Don’t worry about it. It has been taken care of.” The nurse nodded. “Oh yeah. And there has been a fight at a club. There had been some guys brought in. Their hands need to be cleaned up, and some may even need stitches. So the real night starts. Seth thought to himself. “So what room am I going to?” Seth asked. The nurse looked over her board.

“Um. It’s room 5.”

“Okay. I will head there.”

Heading to Room 5, Seth stopped in front of the door. He hated dealing with the drunks, especially when they are violent. He took in a few breaths in and let it out. Reaching for the handle he walked in. “Oh baby, you will be okay.” A woman spoke as she rubbed the gentleman’s back.

“I wish I could’ve beat that jackass’s face in a bit more. Fucking bastard.” The man hissed.

“Oh, doc. Can you look at his hand?” The man turned around and looked at Seth. Seth placed his clipboard on the small counter before walking over to the small stool. He sat down scooting himself over to the man.

“So what happened?” Seth questioned as he examined the man’s hand.

“Are you serious?” Seth looked up at the man. “Oh my God! It is you.” Seth was confused. He looked at the man sitting in front of him a bit longer. Sudden realization hit him. Seth looked back down at the hand covered in blood.

“It’s been a while. Didn’t even recognize you.” How could he. Leon looked completely different than he did during school. His blonde hair was cut in the undercut style and spiked up. He had more piercing than he did before. Seth saw he had his eyebrow pierced and even more in his ears. The tank top the man wore showed off his muscular arms. He also caught the site of some tattoos that were on his right arm. He wore several neckless around his neck that hung low. The pants he wore looked pretty baggy and had several tears in them. Seth never understood that fashion.

“I could tell it was you from first glance.” Leon replied as he laughed. “You haven’t changed in the least. Your hair was the same from before and you still wear glasses I see.”

“Oh baby, do you know this man?” The girl questions as she hung on Leon’s arm. She was baby faced with blonde hair that was tied up in pigtails. Her hair was shirt so it didn’t pass a couple inches out of the ponytails. She wore baggy clothes as well. Her top would fall down and you could see her undershirt and some of her bra as well.

“Yeah. He was a classmate of mine.” Leon answered.

“Oh wow. So you know such a smart man.” Leon looked at the woman almost in a glaring manner and replied.

“Are you saying I’m not smart?” She giggles as she held onto Leon’s arm.

“I didn’t say that.”

“I don’t think you would need too many stitches.” Seth listened to the two speak as he was cleaning Leon’s hand off from the blood. He got cut pretty deep, but it wasn’t as bad as what he thought it was. “So you’re saying I need stitches.” Leon questioned Seth.

“Only a few.” Seth replied. “Let me go get some anesthesia so we can get you sewn up so you can go.” He slid his stool over to the counter. He grabbed the clipboard that had Leon’s information on it. “Did you hear that? We can go after you get all sewn up.” She rubbed her breasts against Leon’s arm. Seth ignored the affection that the other man was getting.

“I will be back in a moment.” Seth spoke as he left the room.

He walked to their medicine cabinet in their storage room. He had to leave that room. Why did he have to come here of all places. Seth thought to himself. If he actually looked at the information that the nurse handed to him, he may have not been shocked by the sudden reunion. Once he found out who the man was, Seth’s heart started to race. He thought he had gotten over that man. Maybe having that dream had stirred up emotions he had locked away. Once they broke up on the day of graduation. He tried his best to forget Leon. He was able to get into one of the top Colleges for medicine. It wasn’t the same school his father went to, but it was still one of the bests. He was able to get his master degree in medicine. He was thinking it would be best to work in a hospital. However, several were not hiring at the time and he ended up working in the ER. He had no complaints. Everyone that he worked with was really nice. He may have some issues with some of the patients that come in, but that is not something that he really had any problem with so far. He knew it would’ve been better to have the same patients see you all the time. Yet, this job brought some joy in by allowing him to take care of many different people with different issues. However, he never thought that he would run into Leon of all people here. No matter what, he wanted to get rid of the guy. He didn’t want anything to do with him after what had happened in the past. Seth knew that he shouldn’t treat Leon like that. Yet, he thinks his heart won’t be able to stand it if that man was around him. He would stitch the guy up and have him leave. To Leon, all he was, was someone that he could screw with no consequences. He even introduced him as his classmate to that girl. Seth could tell that Leon was already over him. The woman that was with him was probably his girlfriend. The way that she kept clinging onto him and calling him “baby”. No don’t think about it. Just do your job. This is just another drunk that got into another fight. You are just taking care of him. Seth repeated those words in his head. Take care of him and that would be the last time he would have to see Leon again. Seth took in sever deep breathes letting them out slowly. He tried to pace his racing heart. Once he felt he was in control again. He grabbed the item he needed and headed back to room 5. A knock was heard on the door, and a “Come in,” was heard in response. The door opened to reveal Seth on the other side.

“Okay, I got what I needed. So let’s begin.” Seth said as he entered the room and began the process.

“Tell me when your hand has gone numb.” Leon nodded.

“Oh poor baby. Getting stitches.” The girl whined. She held onto Leon’s arm that wasn’t being work on pushing her boobs against it.

“But won’t it look cool.” Leon smirked at the girl. He turned his head to face Seth. “Hey doc, my hand has gone numb.”

“Okay. Then let’s being.” Seth grabbed a clean needle and thread. He scooted his chair over to Leon. Grabbing the other man’s hand, Seth started working sewing the gashes closed. It was quiet except for the small outburst from the woman in the room.

“I can’t believe you really became a doctor.” Leon spoke breaking the silence.

“Why would you think that?” Seth questioned not taking his eyes off of the hand he was working on. “I don’t know why. I just figured you would do something else.”

“I told you that I was going to be a doctor.” Seth said and he cut the string on the needle and tied it off.

“Move your hand this way.” Seth turned Leon’s hand and started to work on another injury.

“I’m in a band.” Leon voice full of pride as he spoke.

“Oh really.” Seth didn’t care for the conversation. He didn’t care what the man was doing. He actually wished he never saw him.

“I see you have a ring. Are you married?” Seth stopped for a moment then continued.

“Yes.”

“Kids?”

“Yes, three.” Seth cut the thread and tied one more knot. “There you go.” Leon tried to bend his hand. “I wouldn’t do that until it’s fully healed. With the anesthesia, you can’t feel your hand and you can actually rip out the stitches I just put in.” Seth explained to the other man. “How long will the stitches have to be in?” Leon questioned.

“I would say three week. As long as you take care of it.” Seth spoke as he put some alcohol on the wound removing any bacteria. “Soon you would feel the pain coming to your hand, so I’m going to subscribe you some medication to take.” Seth wrote down information on a paper and gave it to Leon. “You can go to your local doctor and they can remove the stitches for you. You won’t have to come back here.” Seth explained to Leon.

“I actually don’t have a doctor that I frequent.” Seth looked at Leon for the first time since he came inside the room.

“Then if you want. You can come here and we will remove the stitches. Give it about three weeks to heal. As long as the wound is healed properly, we can then remove the stitches.” “No prob doc.” Leon said with a grin.

“Darling, do you feel okay.” Leon looked over at the woman that was still hanging on him and grinned. “I’m really tough. You don’t have to worry about anything.” He grinned. The woman smiled and squeezed her breast against him arm.

“Now that we are done. I will excuse myself.” Seth spoke as he stood up from the stool. He made his way over to the door and made his exit. He didn’t want to stay in the room any longer watching how affectionate the woman was being to Leon. He also missed the expression on Leon’s face when he left the room
