George Floyd & PrideFall
Author’s note: I am sorry if you don’t agree with me but this is my opinion, this is an update of what has been currently happening and why these things should not be happening. Thank you, if you disagree with what I say, I understand that you have your own opinion and I have mine as well.
George Floyd ~ The tragic pattern of police brutality against people of black skin is something very common nowadays. George Floyd was a 46 year old black man who lived in Minneapolis and he preached to his friends about how in Minneapolis you can start out fresh and have a good life. He worked at Salvation Army and liked to help others. He was suspected of doing something bad, so police attempted to take him into custody. They said that he was resistant. There is a video that shows that he was complying and respecting the officers. One officer put his knee on George’s neck and left it there for a total of eight minutes. A girl recorded it as it went down and at least three others attempted to help George. There were four cops, one of which had his knee on George’s neck, the other three were standing by threatening to spray mace in the eyes of the people trying to help George. George’s words were “Please, I can’t breathe. The knee on my neck. I can’t breathe officer, They are going to kill me”. He knew what was going to happen. This innocent black man was killed by the officer because he was suspected of doing something and they called it police brutality. George Floyd’s life mattered. Can we please stop calling it police brutality? It is Racism and Murder. White people who have shot up schools have no scratches on them when being arrested but Black people are hurt or even worse, killed. Some people have been mad about the protests and have asked why we are emphasizing the “#BlackLivesMatter” tag rather than “#AllLivesMatter”. There is a reason for this. We all understand that but we are focused on the black lives right now because the judicial and justice system is unjust and has many flaws. We need to show these systems that Black Lives Matter. Until we are all on board with that not all lives matter. Minorities are attacked and this is a problem. If you don’t understand how unfair things are right now then you might just be part of the problem. I am showing my opinion because my family is Mexican and I get threats every once in a while such as “Your type is the reason all our jobs are gone”, “You live in San Bernardino? You must be ghetto”, and “Go back to where you are from”. These types of comments are not okay. Yes, I am Mexican and we do take up lots of jobs but most of us get the jobs the privileged races don’t want such as picking crops, construction, and other forms of labor. My father was also arrested and put away for a number of years for a thing he did not do. He passed a few years ago but I cried when I saw what happened to George because my father passed in a way where he cried for help just as George did. I hate when people are killed. I wish that people who do that think about this; that person might’ve been someone’s son/daughter, uncle/aunt, brother/sister, dad/mom, and cousin. They matter, their life matters, you killing them will hurt their family. Killing others should not be okay and I was disappointed when the officers who were at fault for his death were not charged or arrested, if it had been me or you we would have been in jail almost immediately. Thankfully they are in custody but they deserve to be charged with 2nd degree murder, currently they are being charged with 3rd degree murder… 3rd degree murder means it was an accident… this was not an accident and was not like he did it in a second. He was kneeling on George’s neck for eight minutes… during that time he had many chances to get off of George but didn’t, this was not an accident and it shouldn’t be treated as one.
StopPrideFall ~ This year there is something called “Project Pride Fall”. This is an event that will supposedly happen on June when Gay Pride Month usually happens. People from a website called “4chan” who are homophobes or just anti-LGBTQAI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Allies, and Intersex) are saying that this year homos will die. They are posting rude and disturbing things to scare the gay community such as saying “hitler should have focused on homos, not the jews” and saying that homos aren’t normal people and should kill themselves. Starting June 1st they will; spread hate to accounts that are LGBTQAI+, hack their accounts, if they are closeted they will out them, and they will attempt to find the address of the people and harm and/or rape them. I don’t understand the hate toward others. I am a proud part of the gay comminuty and before I came out I was a proud supporter. If you are a part of the community I beg of you to put your account on private if you don’t want to see the hate. If you aren’t a part of the community and do not support it, I am begging you to not post any homophobic content online. I will not put my account on private, I want to see how far these people will go and this is my first year getting to participate in Pride Month since I came out and I will not let these haters tell me who I can and can't like. Other people who post homophobic content have it so that they can hack anyone who comments on their account and figure out information about them. I wish we could live in a world where everyone is accepted as they are and no one is discriminated against. Sadly we don’t. To those of you that may ask “why do the gays have a pride month”, gay pride isn’t just an excuse to celebrate being gay, it is a celebration of our right to exist without persecution. So instead of wondering why straight people don’t have a pride parade, be thankful you guys don’t need one.
