Burn

Chapter Three

Chapter Three

Jun 07, 2020

There are two ways to earn money here in Raphilia.  Number one, of course, is by working in a family business or for an noble family.  The second, much easier way is by becoming a Servant of the Kingdom.  However, you can only join the STK committee if you have a high magical aptitude.

Raphilia is one of the only places in the world where magic has enough density to take form.  It is also one of the only places where people are born with the ability to manipulate and harness this dormant power.

Anyone who wants to can visit their sectors magic registration office.  If one has a high enough magical aptitude, they can request to join the STK committee. Those registered receive a monthly income of one hundred gold coins, or more.

Not only that, but people registered can be hired by others to do work, such as someone who is good at medical work being hired as a healer, or someone with high offensive capabilities as a bodyguard for a noble.  Sometimes people come across problems only magic can fix, while others just want to boast about the amazing magician they hired.  Whether for party tricks or protection, the more power a person has, the more money they’re bound to make.  Some people get so popular they can even become nobility, or join the royal court.

Of course, that’s all to much for someone like me.

I just need to get into STK, not get commissioned by some bratty noble’s kid.

  I’m not a circus animal.

Hello! Thank you for reading chapter three of Burn! If you were already reading, you’ll notice I changed the story from romance to fantasy. There will, of course, be romance, but from the way the story is playing out in my head, I believe that labeling it romance will be misleading as it is not going to be what the story is about. Anyway, thanks again for reading, and enjoy your day!

I think it's coming together nicely :D I like the concept of an agency with this, and your world seems like you've given yourself a lot of possibilities! Definitely will keep poking at it :)

Only comment to offer you - your grammar is on the whole really clean, but you're doing dialogue tags like I used to xD You've got it, like....

"This is stupid." He said.

It's actually punctuated like -

"This is stupid," he said.

Or to use an example from yours,

"Are you lost?" she asks.

Small, but wanted to mention it! Looking forward to more.
