Passed the Great Oasis lies a mountain range with only one clear way through. In that tight passing a small but imposing city exists. Buildings of all sizes line the streets, some small, while others are very tall. These buildings had a common theme being that they all appeared to be lively establishments, composed mostly of bars and clubs. Interestingly, built into the side of one of the mountains bordering the town was a humongous mirror ball, easily the size of a sports stadium. Here we find Zed, Trace and Psy at the entrance, curiously looking at their new surroundings during the day.
“Ah! The city!” breathed in Trace. “Reminds me a lot of home.”
“Ya, except for the giant mirror ball over there I guess right?” asked Zed.
“Well duh”, responded Trace. “But that just means this city is less fancy shmancy and more ready to party!” Trace faces the city with open arms, welcoming any and all festivities. She’s greeted by lethargic streets. The few citizens around, though dressed lively, were either asleep on benches or slowly walking around while yawning.
“Party?” asked Psy. “Looks like they’re more ready for a morgue.”
“You got me there”, replied Trace slowly putting her arms down. She looks around and spots a nearby bar. “Well we had quite the hike to get here. Let’s go get some drinks and maybe learn a little about the city.”
“I’m parched!” replied a thirsty Zed.
“Anything beats saltwater right now”, said Psy. The three friends walk into the bar and find the it full of patrons that look just as sleepy as the residents out on the streets. They find three open seats on the bar and settle in.
“Hey bar keep! Three waters if you’d be so kind”, exclaimed Zed. The sleepy but young bar tender notices the three through tired eyes. They yawn and bring out three mugs full of water. Psy and Trace lightly sip their drinks while Zed guzzles his down. At another table, a young girl with blonde, thin pigtails that reach down passed her waist, takes notice of the threes’ drink choices.
“Not exactly what you order in a bar”, the girl says. The three turn their heads to face the girl as she gets up from her seat and approaches them. Standing up the three can now see she’s very petite. She’s wearing thick glasses, and an oversized white hoodie that covered most of her body. Her skinny, pale legs were covered halfway by the hoodie, and she wore dark blue fuzzy slippers. “I take it you three are from out of town?” Traces smiles.
“Why yes we are”, said Trace. “And I take it you must be a local. Care to tell us about your little city?” The girl sits next to them at the bar and introduces herself.
“Sure, I can!” she said with a bubbly and welcoming voice. “My name’s Katie! Let me buy you guys some drinks to welcome you to the neighborhood! Barkeep! Four DistGambinos!” The sleepy bar tender looks at the girl and perks up.
“Right away Katie!” responded the barkeep who quickly starts making the drinks.
“Y’know Katie you don’t have to pay for those. Trace here has a-“, Zed is suddenly cut off by Trace putting her hand in front of his mouth. She moves in close to Zed’s face.
“Free is for me”, she lovingly whispered into Zed’s ear. “Excuse my friend here”, she said to Katie. “My big mouth of a friend here is named Zed, and his gloomy looking brother is named Psy.” Psy looks at Katie while sipping his water and grunts in-between gulps. “And my name is Trace! It’s a pleasure to meet you Katie. Please continue telling us about your lovely city.”
“Feel lucky new friends!” Katie said happily. “For you three have arrived in DistGambol! Made right in-between the mountains, DistGambol is the liveliest city you’ll ever witnessed!” The three look around the bar at all the sleepy customers.
“Lively?” all three questioned.
“Well not yet!” exclaimed Katie. “It’s the middle of the day! Who parties during the day? When night falls, that’s when you’ll see the city come to life!” Zed and Trace look excited, but Psy has a small frown. Psy continues to look around the bar and notices something all the patrons and residents outside have in common besides being drop dead tired.
“I can’t help but notice”, said Psy through suspicious eyes. “Everybody here is pretty young. Where’s all of the older people?” Katie smiles a cute little smile at Psy.
“The older folk aren’t the partying type so I’m sure they’re squirrelled away somewhere”, Katie tells Psy. As Katie finishes her sentence the bar tender gives each of them a foamy, bubbling blue drink. “Enough adult talk! Let’s drink up to new friends!”
“Here! Here!” exclaims Zed. All but Psy tap their drinks together. Zed nudges Psy. Psy rolls his eyes and taps his glass with Zed’s and they both begin drinking. From the corner of the bar, a group at a table quietly snicker to themselves. Psy squints at the table.
“So, I’m noticing your funky looking seashell arm there Zed” said Katie.
“Oh, you like it?” asked Zed. “This is just something I made up in the last town we visited.” Zed flexes the Oasi Bratso. “But this is what I usually sport around.” He reaches into the kelp bag strapped to his back, revealing his original robotic arm. “Just some good Shima machinery right here!” Zed slaps his robotic arm proudly. Some of the patron’s gazes lock on to Zed’s robotic arm, unnoticed by Zed and Trace, but Psy shoots his gaze right back at them causing the patrons to look away.
“Wooooow”, Katie looks in awe at Zed’s arm. She moves her fingers down the detached arm in curiosity. “Sure does look impressive, and manly.”
“You have good eyes. I mean a good eye!” Zed corrected himself blushing. Trace shoots a glance at Zed, and then takes a big gulp of her drink. Katie chuckles and picks up her drink.
“Come on guys!” she exclaims. Two patrons come up to the group.
“The Day is late!” said one.
“And the party will start shortly!” said the other. Trace and Zed excitedly smile and raise their drinks with everyone.
“To a night you’ll never forget!” exclaimed Katie and the two patrons. Then all but Psy takes big gulps of their drinks and Katie begins ordering everyone another round. A few customers snicker in the background. Psy takes notice to the surrounding activity and grows suspicious.
