Getting back on the bike, I take the sim card from the cell phone. Just looking
at it for a few minutes before smashing it into tiny pieces. Noah really
needed to get called back to his headquarters or to another job. I glanced
around to the road signs to see how far the nearest town was from this
location. Thankfully it wouldn't take more than thirty minutes to arrive at the
next town. When I reached it; it was easy to find their cell phone store. Their
main street was only two blocks long. This had to be another very tiny town.
As I sat in the store waiting, I still wondered how Noah figured out the last
cell number? The clerk was in the middle of helping a local figure out why
her camera wouldn't work. Leaning back into the waiting chair, I let out a
sigh. It took another fifteen minutes before the woman understood what the
clerk was trying to explain. At this point in time I was about to tell her to get
a normal camera. Thankfully I kept my thoughts to myself. When the clerk
finally got her to leave he apologized for the long wait.
I got a couple burner phones. The clerk looked at me like a crazy person but I
ignored him after paying the bill. Walking from the store, I felt like there was
something I might have missed. Jeremy was very careful but Noah being a
cop made it easy for him to get information. Perhaps not even Jeremy knew
all the resources that man had up his sleeves. Walking down towards where I
parked my bike, I glanced around. This town was actually kind of quaint in its
own way. They had a mom and pops barber shop across the street. A few
restaurants, then a small clothing store. Soon as the burner phone was set up
it started to ring. Jeremy was on the other end sounding annoyed.
"I've wired money into a fake account. You need to draw the money out in
that town. Also don't keep a phone for more than three days."
Great so I would have to spend even more cash on these damn burner
phones. My head was starting to hurt even thinking about it. Once at the bike
I stash the other phones in the saddle bag.
I sit on the side of the bike just watching the locals for a little while. It was
pleasant to see what was typical of normal life. As I'm about to get on the bike
for real a little girl tapped my leg. She was adorable in her blue dress with
black pigtail braids.
"Excuse me my brother wanted you to have this...he said not to tell you."
I couldn't help but to give her a smile leaning over to her level. She handed
me some home made bread from the bakery, I'd missed it the first time
looking around. In the shop window her brother was face palming himself.
The little girl waved to me running back to the store laughing. That was an
extremely cute way to flirt. Although telling a small child not to say
something had the reverse effect. I give them a small wave smiling as a
thanks. The fresh bead smelled so good, it was making me hungry. It was
best to leave it till later since I wanted to keep moving. After a few hours I
stop on the side of the road taking the bread out. The entire saddle bag
smells like the freshly baked bread. It would be nice to keep that scent in
there.
Sitting down next to my bike the phone rang at the moment my mouth was
stuffed full of bread. Glancing at the phone I see it is Jeremy again. Quickly I
tried to chew my food but clicked the accept button.
"Hey, Zoe just checking in on you."
Really now you were starting to act like a parent. Coughing a little I take a
sip of water from a bottle I'd taken out of the bag.
"I'm fine. Just eating something right now. I plan on moving out again after
I finish this bread."
There was something about his voice that sounded off. Jeremy let out a deep
breath like he was trying to calm down. In a yelling voice he started to talk to
me.
"There are people outside looking for you. You need to go now and destroy
that phone. I will contact you again if possible."
His voice cut off as I heard a loud boom. I dropped the phone quickly getting
on the bike taking off. I literally had the bike going the fastest it could
possibly go till it ran out of gas. What the fucking hell is going on? I thought
only Devon and Noah were on my case. Now there were some unforeseen
people.
Shit...who else would even want to hunt me down? It could possibly be
someone who hates Devon. They might want to use me against him. I let out
a scream just looking up at the stars. I needed to walk for a least a mile
before the exit to the gas station. I kept walking just trying not to want to cry.
This whole situation was becoming more fucked up. As I neared the exit a
few cars stopped asking if I was alright. It was a nice gesture from them but I
didn't want to deal with people right now. Finally reaching the gas station, I
start the gas pump. The person working night shift stared out the window at
me. Yeah it was strange to see a woman pushing a motorcycle up. Rubbing
my forehead I let out a long sigh. The night air felt cool as the breeze blew
through the hair of the wig. I wondered if I needed to change my style once
more? If so would I need to get a different vehicle too? The pump let off a
click sound, it was telling me the tank was full. I walked into the station
paying for the gas. The clerk asked me to stop for a moment. He looked at a
flyer on the wall then waved for me to leave. Glancing back I can see my
portrait. Son of a fucking bitch Noah put out a missing person on me.
