I felt my wolf calm as my fist made contact with the leather punching bag through the cloth of my wrapping. He had woken up angry today and it has taken over an hour to get him to back down. Checking the clock, I have just enough time to hop in the shower before opening the bar.
Clearing the fog from my mirror, I made sure my eyes were back to their normal emerald green instead of the otherworldly black I had woken up with. Walking down the stairs, I tuck the ends of my t-shirt into my black ripped jeans. I was immediately hit with the smell of cherry blossoms and knew who would be standing outside the door.
“Guess what that sorry excuse for an Alpha did now!” Annoyance ringing in her voice as her crystal blue eyes glowed with matching irritation.
“Well, good morning to you too, Lori.” I rolled my eyes as the shorter brown-haired girl stormed in past me. I walked to the window turning on the neon signs saying, “Red Wolf” and “open”, sending a signal to all those who passed by that I was accepting costumers. Turning back to Lori I found her leaning across the bar to grab a bottle of vodka, before settling back into her barstool. She poured herself a glass, immediately throwing it down her throat. She straightened her skirt before turning to me as she flipped her long hair, allowing it to fall, cascading down her back.
“He has confined all Omegas to their cave for the entire weekend!”
“First of all, stop talking so openly about pack business. There are still a few humans that come in here.” I say moving behind the bar and waving at my regulars that are already filing through the door. “Second, calm down and tell me what you’re talking about.”
“Apparently some random pack is sending a group of diplomates to Red Moon and he doesn’t want any ‘troublesome Omega’ getting in the way.” She elaborates in a softer voice before pointing for me to pour her another drink.
Leaning closer to her I whisper in the most professional voice I can muster, “I’m sure the Alpha will be holding a meeting soon to go over this topic. I’ll bring up the issue and see what I can do.” I return to my original position and start making a drink for one of the many other patrons of the Red Wolf before regaining my usual playful exterior. “Either way, what have I told you about engaging in pack gossip?” I question but, continue before she can answer. “If you spent as much time working as you do eavesdropping, your tab would certainly not be as long as it is.” I tease giving her one of my signature smirks.
“What and lose my title as reigning champion?” She questioned in mock offense. “No way.” She declared with a wink. Standing, Lori readjusted her attire and checked her makeup in the mirror behind me. “But, thank you for reminding me that I still have work today. I’ll stop by when I get off.” She blew me a kiss before the door blocked her from view.
I returned to my work, accommodating the constant flow of customers that come in and out of the door. Around a quarter of the way through my workday I received a mind link from the Dominate Representative, Duncan Peterson, informing me of the meeting of all pack officials about the coming visitors Lori had mentioned earlier. Being the Omega Representative, I am obligated to attend.
I closed the bar for a few hours to attend the meeting, even if the meeting takes more time than expected, I’ll be back behind the bar before the evening rush. Locking the door behind me, I walk to my truck and start toward the caves of Red Moon.
