April 11th 2025, I have no idea what happened. I was going to get out from my city but just as I was on my way I had a surprise. I was by a silent street, many people had migrated from my city and there was a hundred people left, as I walked I noticed a dead body in the middle. Rapidly I turned on my Earbuds and my Toxic Mask, they were specially designed to withstand the conditions of the virus, and as I passed through the dead body I looked into it, though no sign of life remained his eyes stood untouched as if alive. They glowed in the dark because of the radio activeness but it seemed so magic, the body totally black but the eyes open as if the whisper of their owner’s last hopes and dreams, emitting light to such a hopeless and unfair world. But as I passed through, I heard a sound coming from behind me. I turned over just to see the eyes of the dead body that once had glowed now was closed and black. I couldn’t say what had happened, though as if someone had stolen the soul of that poor infected man, still it wasn’t done. I heard again the sound but now I felt it was coming in front of me. I turned again and all I barely could see was a silhouette of a man-sized black bird, I said black but in fact his clothes was brighter. May I should say for you that since it was night I only saw black, but in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if his clothes were white since the smallest of the light could give it enhancement enough to be seen in the shadows. I saw him stood in front of me, at first I did not believe what I was seeing at all, but once it started walking in my direction I was paralyzed. My heart could be heard beating hard, shouting for me to leave. But I couldn’t move, the fear ran through my veins and once it hit my brain my eyes opened up screaming help! Even if, no chance anyone could save me from that unreal monster. As I was about to take an unexpected reaction, he opened his eyes. The eyes were so bright that it lightened up the entire street and even made me blind for a moment, but soon after he opened it he quickly flew off. Went up into the air leaving no trace of existence behind. When I looked back to see the dead body it had disappeared, all of this as if death itself had shown to that poor man just only it could end his eternal suffering once for all, not even guessing about the unfair and a world full of pain the man had once lived. No, just as his eyes glowed giving finally the light for his path to the eternal peace. After that unusual meeting I continued my way all until the city of Marie such as I am right now, here I met someone, her name is Alice.
I was going through the path I’ve schedule when I saw her uncovered with nothing but her clothes running out from an abandoned market. When suddenly, she saw me and fell into the street. Because she had passed through a dead body that was inside it she fell from intoxication, she knew about the body which was inside the market but since she was hungry the only way to survival would be getting food from there. I quickly ran toward her, got her and her products into my arms and brought her into a safe location. There, I gave her some water, she confused thanked me for doing that for her, there she guided me into her home as she was on my arms. She was exhausted and I’ve never seen so much luck about her survival, even after being so close to the infected dead body somehow she managed to survive. As if nature itself, between millions of lives that were taken away had chosen her to live. As soon as we arrived she collapsed. I was worried at first, but the other day she woke up and told me all about her. She told me her name was Alice, and she was trying to figure out a way to save her mother’s house from being totally destroyed by the virus. Apparently, her mother had died, and the virus was now capable to destroy material such as concrete, by a fluid that comes out from the dead infected body. All her food had been sapped, and she was so hungry that no choice was left other than risking herself to get food. Alice told me she didn’t have any special clothes and just tried to pass as fast as she could from the corpses. Therefore, her body soon felt weaker and weaker making her barely able to walk.
But now she was safe, I did not tell her but strangely I want to take care of her now. At least I think it could be the least I could do in honor of her poor mother that had left her. I told her all about me and my journey, she is so nice and sweet I wasn’t able to restrict my information to her. In such way, she soon began questioning about those notes I make, leaving me no choice other than telling her everything about it. Alice is a smart girl you could say, but for some reason I felt happy for seeing her so interested in my notes and my story. Maybe I passed so much time working from myself that I forgot how good it is to have someone to help me once in a while.
I don’t know why, but after her several attempts I could not say no to her and now she’s allowed to make notes in my book. So if you see some distractions with no real scientific matters in this mission, do not worry. It’s just Alice writing a few pages for me.
Alice agreed to come with me to San Paul, she said it was her dream to be there. Though she understood that it was really serious business, she couldn’t help herself in being happy for participating on this trip. Alice made me think on something for a while, even if our world is so doomed the way it is, and even how hopeless our existence is now compared to this virus, even so, it felt as if happiness and joy are still able to exist. Though rare, it is still possible and that’s why we should not give away our hopes.
Tomorrow we’ll continue our trip, our next destination is Bauru and soon Campping, those two cities shall guide our journey. I had an extra safety equipment in case mine was destroyed, this one will fit Alice to come with me.
