Days passed and I hadn’t seen him again, until I was walking through campus and he saw me.
“Little Miss Barbarian, good to see you not barreling toward me like a crazy animal.”
There it is, that confident grin on his face.
“Great.” I rolled my eyes,
“How did I become so unlucky to be graced with your presence?”
I kept going trying to sound as annoyed as possible. His piercing eyes met mine,
“Did you already forget?”
He looked almost hurt, but I knew he was being sarcastic.
“You owe me a new coffee, decided it was time to claim it.”
He sounded like I didn’t have a say in it, and that irritated me. How could someone have so much confidence towards a complete stranger?!
“I already told you I don’t give a damn about your coffee!”
Stupid. I should’ve quit talking and walked away. Maybe then I could’ve saved myself so much heartache.
If I had known what would’ve come of this, I would’ve never entered that Engineering building.
“Alright make you a deal, I’ll buy two coffees, drink one with me, just listen to what I have to say, and then I’ll never bother you again. Deal?”
He held one finger up in the air with a lot of mystery in his eyes.
“You’ll never bother me again?”
I’m skeptical about his proposal.
“Correct,”
He crossed his arms over his chest,
“I will never take up your time again.”
He smiled.
What a nice smile, I like it.
“Deal.”
He grabbed my hand as soon as the word left my mouth and dragged me off.
He took me to a small café that didn’t have many people,
“This place isn’t well known but it makes great coffee. What’ll you have?”
He beamed, almost like he was a child and I had given him his favorite toy.
“J-just a vanilla iced coffee is fine.”
Who knew such a stern face could look so bright? It caught me off guard. He ushered me to a table and pulled the chair out for me.
“Sit here I’ll be back shortly.”
He seemed satisfied when he spoke these words, all I could say was
“Okay.”
He went to the counter and ordered our drinks, the barista seemed familiar with him so that meant he probably comes here a lot.
Then, it dawned on me, what if this is where he takes chicks to pick them up? Do I look that easy to him?! As I was getting mad in my own thoughts my phone went off. It was Jas!
[Hey! I finished my classes early and I’m off for the rest of the day, wanna spend time with your favorite person?]
Whew, saved! Now I have an excuse to leave. I responded immediately
[Absolutely I’ll meet you at your apartment!]
I started gathering my stuff I had set down.
“Everything okay?”
This man walked up to me with two coffees in his hand with a confused look on his face. I was stunned
“Uh, yeah just something important came up and I have to go now so, um sorry about skipping out how much was the coffee?”
I felt a little guilty seeing his face.
“It’s fine. Don’t worry about it. Hope everything is okay, maybe you can make it up to me another time. Now you owe me two coffees.”
He grinned but his grin didn’t match his eyes. Something about his eyes made me uneasy.
“Uh yeah sure. Um bye.”
I turned to start walking when he spoke again.
“Daemon.”
I stopped and turned
“What?”
I was confused as ever.
“Daemon Giovanni, it’s my name. You seem displeased so I don’t dare ask for your number so instead I’ll give you my name. Goodbye Little Miss Barbarian.”
His expression changed to a perfect business smile.
“Uh thanks, mine’s Kai.”
I gave a short answer and left.
