"I'm not helping you... Not with this..." Anya mumbled just loud enough for Tord to hear.
The Norwegian had just committed mass murder at an enemy base after escaping capture, only to come back for a hostile take over of the base he and his squad had been stationed at.
And he had come back unhinged.
Tord had always had a violent streak, but as a soldier could still tell friend from foe, and had a good side to him that kept him from going to extremes towards his comrades and brothers in arm.
This is what scared Anya. Because it was like he had lost part of himself.
Tord scared her when he slammed her against the wall out of anger for what she has said.
"What do you mean you're not going to help me-?" It was like a switch had been flipped, he had been acting so sweet to her a moment ago, but now he was gripping her shoulders hard. No doubt it would have bruised a normal woman much worse if not for her muscle tone.
Despite her fear, Anya was also angry, she had seen this happen before in her past. The first time it ever happened she clammed up, and it ended in a beating and a fake apology, saying "It would never happen again". After she was healed from that she returned the pain she received from that guy 10 fold. The ruski learned never to stick around for a second time or stay quiet during the first, which was why she was still able to talk back, "I said I'm not going through with this! Taking over!? Are you serious? That's a crazy Tord!!" The russian snapped at him, trying to pry his hands off her. She was scared, but she was also pissed off. It showed.
Tord was slightly taken aback by that. Anya didn't raise her voice often, and it was just as rare for her to actually LOOK angry.
"It's not crazy..." He retorted with a softer tone, but it quickly became loud again, "I CAN do it! I can make the world better!!" He gripped her shoulders harder,"I won't be thrown to the wolves as a distraction again!!" Tord shouted pinning her harder against the wall, making Anya grunt in pain. "You said you'd always have my back!" Anya could feel him shake with rage, the anger in his eyes practically turned the red, "You said you understood why I killed them! I thought you loved me!"
When Tord took over the army, like Paul and Patryk, Anya followed along, he was stronger and more cunning than them, even though that alone was a red flag, they didn't attempt to go against him. Even animals know when to submit.
But now-
This was too much...
Taking on the world was like a mouse taking on a lion.
"I do love you..." The woman whimpered looking down, "but this is insane... I can't help with something this- INSANE!" she couldn't find a better word for it.
The army girl had been used by people before, and she was used to it, it happened so many times, she could handle that much. She just couldn't handle when it got physical.
And if Tord was willing to get violent with her if she disagreed with him...
Anya wanted to cut it off before she was forced to retaliate. She didn't want to hurt Tord. They had both been hurt enough...
"Please Tord..." Anya pleaded, too scared and angry to look him in the eye. "Don't make me help with this... I won't oppose you... But I don't want the kind of life this will lead to..." Her body was trembling, and if he didn't let go soon or got anymore violent with her, Anya was afraid of what kind of impulsive action he triggered her into acting on.
His actions, his tone, his words, they all triggered her deepest survival instincts she had developed over the years. And he might just end up like the other men who got abusive.
"So you're going to ditch me for that fairytale family life you keep chasing!? Is that it!?" To make his point, he pulled her off the wall only to slam her harder against it. His voice was vibrating with rage.
The man shouted a few other things, but the woman was too busy trying to keep herself under control and think of what to say to get him to stop.
"Tord....!" Anya managed to cry out, putting on the most pathetic tear stained face she could muster, "Please Let Go!! You're hurting me-!" She hated herself for resorting to this, but it was his last chance to let go before she lost her own self control. Looking weak, gaining pity, lowering peoples guard, that's what she was good at after all.
She had just respected and loved Tord too much to use it like before.
Tord was quiet for a moment as he stared at her, his face still hard with anger, but soon started to loosen his grip on her, before letting go completely, "Fine then...." Annya let out a breath she had been holding in as her body started shaking, "If you want to walk out that door..." He muttered as he turned away from her, "I'll shoot you if you try to walk back in..."
He sounded so defeated, Anya tried to reach out to him, but her hand stopped before she touched his arm. Tord was also visibly shaking, with his hands clenched at his sides.
Tord had already put his hands on her. They had spared during training, but at least she knew he wouldn't TRY to hurt her or make her feel like he wouldn't stop. In that moment, she really felt like if he hit her, he might not stop. It was a terrifying thought, and Anya had never made it a habit to let any man try a second time. She wasn't going to start now. Cause Tord really would kill her the second time it happened.
"Goodbye Tord..."
Never giving second chances was just another thing they had in common.
