I wake up feeling sick. The past few days i’ve been feeling nauseous and I don't have a fever or any other symptoms. My husband is already up and in the living room. I get up and decide to tell him how I've been feeling.
“Are you okay?” he asks, visibly concerned.
Sherly, what we named the dog, looks up.
“I’m sure that I’m fine” I say, grabbing his hand and rubbing my thumb across his knuckles. That's something my mom would do when I was upset or worried over something. He gives me the look, completely unconvinced.
“I’m fine, I promise. If it keeps up, I'll set up a doctor's appointment.”
“Ok” He replies, still not believing me.
I stand up and kiss him on the forehead as I walk back to bed, and grab my computer from my nightstand. I decide to Google what may be causing it. Sherly waddles in, already getting fat from being spoiled nonstop. I look down and say,
“Okay, lets see what Google thinks is killing me.” she looks up confused but wags her tail anyway at the slight attention.
I sit cross legged and pat the bed, inviting her to join me. She jumps up and wags her tail while I pet her and press search on “causes of nausea” Too much alcohol, NOPE. Drug side effects, NOPE. Food poisoning, well maybe. Pregnancy...No way.
I decide to go make something for breakfast. I walk back into the living room, Sherly close behind me.
“Good morning my love” I say walking towards the kitchen.
“Are you actually up for the day?” he asks.
“maybe. Have you eaten yet?”
“yeah, you weren't up and i didnt want to make too much and it gets cold before you get up. Sorry“
“it's alright” I say, giggling a little.
I walk into the kitchen and see the empty egg carton in the trash.
“Babe, are we out of eggs?” I shout with no response.
I peak around the corner and see him glancing over suspiciously.
“I can go to the store” he says guiltily.
“It’s okay, I’ll go. Maybe it'll make me feel a bit better” I say, smiling over to him. I go and put on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. I slip on my shoes and grab my jacket and ask
“Anything you need while I am at the store?” He shouts from the couch
“maybe some tea”
“Okie dokie, I’ll be back in a bit. I love you” I say, walking out the door.
“Love you” He shouts from inside as I walk to my car.
When I get to the store, I get the eggs and tea, and head to the checkout. When I get in the lane, while I'm waiting I see the dollar pregnancy tests. I grab two and check out quickly. I get home, and put away the eggs and tea bags. Then I take the bag with the tests to the bathroom. I pull 1 out and take it. I put it under the sink and decide I'll check it later. I walk out to the living room and decide to make lunch.
“What do you think about grilled cheese for lunch?” I ask.
“Ooh, I haven't had one in a while” he says in response.
I make 4, so we can both have two, but I barely get through half of one before I have to run to the bathroom. I make it to the bathroom, just in time before I lose the 3 bites of grilled cheese I had eaten. I shut the door and lock it before my husband makes it to me.
“Are you okay?” he yells from the other side of the door.
“I’m fine.” I say, wiping my mouth. “Just needed to drink more water before trying to eat.”
I open the cabinet and grab the used pregnancy test.I know how these things go. 1 line, negative. 2 lines, positive. I take a deep breath and look down. 2 lines.. This can't be right. I take the other test out and take it. 5 minutes later, I check the second test. 2 lines… I’m pregnant? I open the door and look my husband in the eye. I hand him the 2 tests, in shock. He looks down and his eyes widen as he realizes what is in his hand. I smiled and started crying. He looks up to me and smiles bigger than I have ever seen him smile. He wrapped me in a hug and laughed while picking me up out of excitement. I start full on ugly crying while he smiled and once he put me down he grabbed my face and kissed me. I cover my face out of embarrassment out of the fact that I started ugly crying. Once I calmed down, we went and cuddled on the couch. We started planning a doctors appointment. Once we got one set, I started crying again.
“What's wrong?” he asked.
“Nothing. Nothing at all. Everything is just so perfect.” I said sobbing into his chest. He held me and I slept there on the couch the rest of the day.
A few days later we get ready to leave for my appointment. I put on leggings and a tank top and grab my sweatshirt. I put on my shoes and headed out to my car. A few moments later, my husband comes out of the house and gets in the driver's seat.
“Ready?” I ask.
“Ready, are you?” he says back.
Not at all, I think as I reply “mhm, lets go.”
Once we get signed in, we get shown to our room and I take another test to prove I am pregnant. It’s confirmed and we take an ultrasound. Apparently I'm around 9 weeks. And the baby is doing great. I tell the doctor thank you as he leaves and look up to my husband.
“This is so amazing” I say, starting to cry again.
He hugs me and we finish the paperwork and head out to the car. Once we get in the car he asks
“what would you like for dinner?” I say
“I don't care. Up to you babe.”
He thinks for a minute and asks “How does beef stew sound?”
I look over and smile and say
“that sounds good, especially since it's still cold out.”
We got home and he started on dinner while I got into pajamas. I came back out just as he got dinner started and he joined me in the living room on the couch. He read his book and I watched a show. Once dinner was finished, we ate and I asked
“what do you think for baby names?” I say, wondering how much thought he may have put into this.
“I was thinking Mathew if it is a boy, and Alice if it is a girl.” I smile, looking down at my bowl.
We finish eating and I go to bed early, tired from the exciting day. He stays out in the living room, reading with Sherly. I wake up around 2 a.m. to an empty bed. I get up and check in the living room to see my husband and dog sleeping on the couch. I laugh to myself and go back to bed.
