'I.... Have… Nothing. I AM nothing. I have no useful talents, terrible grades, and everybody hates me. Bullies me. I deserve to die, I'm so useless. I've done nothing with my life and probably never will. I'm worse than everybody, better than no one. So here's where I end this. On this bridge standing over a vast body of water.'

Avery took a deep breath and prepared to jump, remembering dimly all the nights he had come to this bridge to gather the courage to jump. To finally end this miserable existence. "Mom," He whispered. He wanted mom to be his last word, even though his heart ached when he said it. She had loved him once. He moved forward to jump, but suddenly somebody grabbed him from behind and scooped him up into their arms. He frantically struggled to get away but couldn't manage it. 

'Not even strong enough to break somebody's grip… I really am useless.' He eventually stopped struggling. There was no point. The person carried him away from the edge of the bridge. "You go to Turnout High School, yeah? Trust me kid, you want to live at least one more day. Doesn't matter how useless you think you are… Just wait a little bit longer before you decide whether to wager your life on that miscalculation." Avery gasped as his eyes shot to the man's face and said, "How did you know I think I'm useless? I didn't say that out loud!" He stopped speaking immediately once he clearly saw the guy's face in the moonlight. He was so gorgeous, Avery went momentarily mute. White hair with black ends, black eyes, long dark eyelashes, a sharp jawline, perfect pale skin, and a diagonal scar that ran from above his right eye all the way down to the left side of his jaw. He wanted to trace that scar. 'I'm going to die soon so I may as well do what I want before I do…' He reached up and slowly trailed his finger down the scar, marveling in the man's beauty. The man's eyebrows shot straight up in surprise. Then he… Disappeared.

Avery fell to the ground with a thump and exclamation of surprise. 'How…?' He stopped getting up when he saw that the man had left behind a... Glowing orb? It came towards him as he remained rooted to the ground where he still sat. When it was right in front of his face, it turned to smoke and forced its way past his lips and into his body. Avery felt and tasted nothing. He didn't know what to make of this and his brain was completely on autopilot now, so he mechanically got up and peeked over the bridge, thinking. 'One more day... I can manage one more day. What's going to happen at school tomorrow? Nothing could possibly make things okay... How could I ever become a better version of myself? Guess I'll be back here tomorrow night.' He turned around and walked away to live for One. More. Day.
