Naroaika

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Jun 23, 2020

The day after my mother rang my ears for my 'lack of etiquette' in front of Juliette, I had been taking some basic etiquette lessons every morning and it was so exhausting. Starting from the way I sit, doing a curtsy, the way I dress, holding tea cups and utensils properly in the correct hands and bla bla bla. How were these even the basics?

But apart from all, the best thing of taking these lessons is the tea break. The tutor liked to drink tea with sweets at 1:00 pm and that's all I ever longed for during the entire session.

"How are you keeping up, Lady Jerinah?" The tutor asked as he dropped a cube of sugar into his cup of tea.

"I guess the lessons aren't that hard." I replied.

He shook his head. "I meant about your memory loss, any progress? Can you remember anything before the time Sir Zed had found you?"

I couldn't remember anything of the time before I was here. How do I tell them that I was actually not the person whom they knew and that I came from another parallel world?

"Do you wish to learn anything then?"

I looked at him with a visible question mark on my head. Did I wish to learn anything? One question popped out my mind but I was unsure if I should ask him that. I hesitated for a second and then asked.

"Do you think there exists a parallel world?"

He lifted his brows. I could say he did not expect that question.

"Why do you want to know about that, Lady Jerinah?"

I quickly answered that I had read it once in a book and wanted to know if it really existed. I looked at him hoping he'd believe my story and at least give me a hint.

He took a sip from his cup and said that there used to be a sorcerer who used black magic and could open portals to unknown spaces. Rumors had it that he used to live on the outskirts of Azalea but that was hundred years ago and there had been no news heard about the sorcerer. I could not believe my ears, someone who can open portals, that's exactly how I entered this world. If there was a portal that was opened just sometime back, then that sorcerer must be alive too and he could be my key to return to the other world.

Then a thought struck me. 'Where is Azalea?' I didn't even know where I was at the moment. I soon decided that I should start learning about the world I was in.

After my classes were over, I headed straight to mother's office but the room was empty. The maid said that father had arrived from an expedition and they both were in his office. I knocked on the door and entered the room.

"Ah, Adline how are you, my darling angel?"

I stood there with my eyes fixed on my so called 'father.' His eyes were a mesmerizing deep ocean blue, well-defined face with a sharp jaw line. If anything, he was fitter looking than I expected and attractive as hell. This person was my father here? More like 'Daddy.'

"Is something wrong, Adline? Do you feel sick or have you forgotten Papa?" He looked at me with a dejected look on his face.

"Daddy?" I blurted out.

I covered my mouth with my palm. I accidently said that out loud.

"I-I mean Papa!"

I saw that my father didn't think much of it or maybe didn't hear me. He had a smile on his face and looked happy. I sighed in relief.

I remembered the reason I went there and requested my parents to hire a tutor to which they both agreed in an instant. I guess being a single child ain't so bad after all, also considering my situation of having a memory loss, I guess it's only natural that they'd agree to it.

Another tutor was arranged who would teach me everything I needed to know about the world I was in.

From the following day onwards, I was assigned with a knight who would be with me wherever I went and ensured my safety. Out of all the knights, it was the person who had found me when I first entered this world, Sir Zed. I did not dislike him nor had anything against him personally but he kept following me wherever I went and I was not used to it at all! Not to mention his poker face and that stare he would give me from time to time.

Apart from my problem with Zed, I took all my classes regularly and everything was going okay.

The world I had entered was called Naroaika. It had three major territories: Gardenia, Hellebore and Azalea. Apart from these, Lavanda, a small town was the only port which was located to the west of Azalea. Gardenia was the capital and that was where I lived too. Until now, these three territories were the strongest and wealthiest and had kept friendly relations with each other which were the reasons why Naroaika had been a very strong kingdom for a long time now under the rule of Zolernzo Luis Anü Zografus.

Now as the tutor had said, the place where the sorcerer lived was on the outskirts of Azalea. Gardenia was located at the centre connecting with all the other territories of Naroaika; Hellebore on the North-west and Azalea on the South-east. It was a good thing that Gardenia connected with all the other territories; I could get to Azalea easily. The problem was going around the outskirts of Azalea. I've heard that there were a lot of bandits around the outskirts.

I thought of a plan.

Maybe I should learn some basic combat skills then I can defend myself too. I could ask father but I don't think he'll want his only daughter to learn how to fight even if it was self defense. I could feel the rejection coming from now. I thought of another way, that's when Zed entered the room. I turned to him.

"Sir Zed!"

"What is it, Lady Jerinah? And please call me Zed."

"Oh then if so, call me Jerinah too. Anyway, I'd like you to teach me how to fight."

"That's not how it works Lady, and fight? You don't have to fight; we knights are there to protect you."

"No, I mean like for self defense. If anything happens I can protect myself too."

"The young lady should not waste her precious time thinking about things like these." He bluntly said.

No matter what I said he wouldn't listen. I got a clear rejection even from Zed. I had to come up with another plan but I couldn't come up with any. Then I thought of something.

"Then could you at least teach me how to ride a horse?"

I looked at him with pleading eyes. He tried to avoid my gaze but soon gave in. He agreed to it but first, he needed my father's approval and I had a great idea for that.

I met my father and directly asked for a horse which he flatly rejected. Next up, I stood there producing as much tears I could (it had become a natural talent now). Ultimately, father couldn't bear to see me cry like that and got me a horse.

Mission successful!

Zed looked at me with no hope at all. "So you're saying you emotionally blackmailed the Duke?" He placed his palm on this face. "I hope I am not drawn out of my duty."

As days went by I got comfortable with Zed around me. He went almost everywhere with me and alongside taught me many other things. I could say we became good friends.

The days were packed from morning to evening. Etiquettes, studies and horse riding, it all came one after another. After almost half a month had passed, the only classes I had were studies and horse riding.

One morning, I received a letter from the Royal Palace. It was a letter from Juliette, inviting me to her birthday celebration. I had never left the mansion since I arrived to this world because of my issues. This was the first time I was going to visit another place from this world. The date was a week later, I was excited at the same time uneasy since I didn't know people outside of this mansion. But I had high hopes that I'd gain some new information.
